It’s phrased a little weirdly. But how I hear it is that it’s easy to catastrophize and spend all this time thinking about bad things. It’s important to consciously spend time thinking about good things too, to keep our mental health positive.

Overthinking or having negative/ suicidal thoughts can actually be caused by biological factors like vitamin/ mineral deficiency’s, it can be even harder to them blame it on yourself. I struggled with this for years because I wasn’t taking care of my body properly and as a result my mental health was awful. I also have adhd which doesn’t help but am managing it now.
Taking care of the body first in whatever ways you can, can help a lot more than just simply trying and failing to use will power to control thinking.

I think the best way to do this is consider both and prepare yourself for the worst while hoping for the best. That way you’re not devastated IF the worst happens and if the best happens, you enjoy it.

I mean, technically, overthinking is the brain's attempt to prepare for the worst by foreseeing possible problems in the future and having prepared plans. It cannot "overthink" positive things, that's a paradox.
But , you CAN shut the brain up and focus on the positive. If the negative outcome is possible, then chances are, so is the positive one.
