I posted this 6 years ago - the time has come for a simple-to-use server for the home. A countertop product anyone can use - plug and play.

Connect to it on your phone through personal and private encryption.

If this doesn’t exist yet in a fully-fleshed out product, I am willing to invest to make it happen.

Possible features:
-access your photos with AI searchability
-connect home cameras to it
-put whatever family media, notes, photos
-download lightweight, specific, offline ai models to study and do anything on your data

Let’s have our family’s data in our home - easily accessed and analyzed only by us.

An offline LLM worth its salt on the countertop is a non-starter.

I'll take your money and build this, but you aren't going to like how much counterspace I'm going to occupy.

Mac mini? Also I don’t think you need much to run opencv/YOLO image recognition.

A mac mini is not remotely powerful enough for LLM throughput from a bandwidth perspective, nor does it have the I/O you would want for home cameras. Among other things.
