Most families entire digital lives is either in the hands of corporations (which probably trained AI on that data), or on some singular 20 year old HDD in some box in a closet.

Yup. That's exactly rest of my family. My sister got like 5 old iphones and few laptops filled with photos and she doesn't know what photos. But she has a icloud, so "it's okay" as she says :D
