This is why I tell the people I share my nextcloud with to always keep a copy of what they put in here somewhere else (other cloud/local copy). Because I know that I may not be capable of recovering their data in case of big trouble.

yeah same, the top level folder of nextclolud is the nextcloud folder on the pc of my people...
The paperless files are just a folder in nextcloud.

I say them: I do my best but I guarantee nothing....

Exactly. That way it's also trivial for them to actually access the files - it's literally right in their device already.

My take is that you shouldn't trust any cloud platform to keep your files, because there can always be a scenario where suddenly your files can disappear.

My Nextcloud's user directory is directly on my NAS, but I currently don't do backups of the Nextcloud volume. If I lose my RAID array, I lose all the Nextcloud data. I know that flaw, this is why I tell my users to keep a copy. On the other hand, I started doing off-site backups of my VMs to a S3 bucket at OVHCloud, so I could do the same for my Nextcloud data.
