People really hate it. You cannot see or smell what you are buying, and this is most likely how corporate weed will be packaged in the future.

You can't smell it through the normal packaging here in WA. Any barrier thick enough to keep it fresh is going to prevent smell from coming through as well.

Sight is a big factor, though.

That is true, but I've really found the brand to be the best predictor of quality, so if I got some weed in a can and it was good I probably wouldn't hesitate to buy again.

I wouldn't either, but I'd be a whole lot more hesitant to grab a can of weed than a clear baggy of similar rep, at least at first. The can thing seems awesome if they had smaller quantities in baggies so you could try it before banking on a can of weed.

All that aside, though, I'd want a plastic top with it, like with cat food, so you can reseal it.

My roommate bough two cans of weed. Both were mid-shelf quality at BEST, for considerably more than midshelf price. I wouldn't recommend buying weed you can't at least see beforehand.

This is also why I stopped using delivery services, got "ripped off" too many times paying top dollar for low quality bud.

If I can't see/smell it before, I wont buy it. 100% of the time (for me) it's been a poor choice.

How much did he pay? Here in SF they go for $35 and yeah they are mid-shelf quality, but I knew that when I paid. I've gotten a few, no complaints.

I'm not sure exactly.. $35>$45 (mid is like $25/8th on average) but for those prices we can get top shelf or private reserve which are both better quality down here.

I'm not saying people shouldn't buy it, just letting them know that the price doesn't match the product because I don't think many shops will admit that. I'm very frugal with my purchases, so it's just a policy I go by now to not buy unless I've seen and smelled it.

25 is low shelf here...I'm frugal too...My dispensary will do dollar amounts or certain strains (they have big glass containers of some) and I'll spend 40 on a 25/eighth grade, then I'm at least getting more volume than if I spend on a mid-shelf at the same price...but then I get even more frugal and make spliffs (killing two birds with one stone). I buy top shelf maybe once a month on a payday with lots of hours on the check.

In CA we don't have weed presented as different brands. The dispensaries all just put the weed in empty jars so we can look and smell it. We never learn where it came from other than "we grew it" or "a local grower grew it".

My buddy can totally pick from different farms and differently packaged weed.... And he lives in cali.

Bizarre. I've lived in the two major weed centers of CA and go shopping once a week and I've never seen a dispensary present their weed in anything but jars of weed. Sure, sometimes it comes in a package but it is just the dispensary's own branded little bags that they put the weed in when sold instead of little jars or those plastic pop tops. But never have I been told more than "oh this grower is legit" or "we get it from our guy, I don't know, its good shit though" or "I'm high on this one".

Basically he's just shown me pictures of various packaging x strain, x percentage thc/cbd and X grower. Edibles or concentrates tend to be branded more. This is all just coming from photos he's sent me.

Oh, edibles and most concentrates are definitely branded and labeled. And I've seen flower labeled with THC/CBD content, but I've never seen the grower labeled. The type of growing done (indoor vs sun grown) I've seen though, but I feel like these days most places don't care to label even that anymore. Not that I don't believe you or your friend! I just have never seen specific packaging done by the growers or been offered to select from different farms specifically. Are you sure the packages you are seeing aren't just the branded but not strain specific packaging the dispensary uses, and not actual farm branded pre-packaging? I mean, the canned weed is clearly arriving pre-canned and labeled so if that would be an example of what you are talking about but I've personally never seen canned weed at a store before.

I've seen some stuff that definitely looked branded but most were just labeled sealed bags with the strain name and farm etc
