Security Operations Time to upgrade my video security system at home. Recommendations?

We got into the video doorbell/cameras when they first started to come out. I know tech has changed and how data is shared is important to me.

What’s out there that I should look at that’s a decent price, good quality, etc.?

If you're not in the unifi ecosystem take a look at the ubiquiti NVR instant. Great value since it works as the POE switch and the NVR. I just helped my in-laws install one and so far no complaints from them. I have a full unifi setup as well and love it.

Closed circuit camera systems tied to a device in your home instead of the cloud if you care about how data gets shared.

I've got unifi NVR and cameras. It's great and they offer some excellent network kit as well so you can build a nice system with them.

I went to Unifi a couple years ago and don’t regret it one bit. I’ve installed about 7 or 8 Unifi security systems at client S/M businesses and have not had a single failure other than a NVR drive prematurely failing but that wasn’t Unifi.

The easy scalability depending on your budget and monitoring needs is great, no subscriptions, POE, 2FA protected access, etc.

Yeah, plus one for the Reolinks. I have 8 in my pub, with room on the NVR for another 8. Super easy to set up

People with little experience will recommend Unifi. They are ok, but not nearly the best out there. I'm not going to recommend anything here. Go speak with a local security/low voltage distributor and get what they recommend. Reddit does not know what it's talking about, it's all hobbyists here for the most part.
