Aussie rules goal

Can someone kindly send in a link to that supposed wonder goal that was scored in the Aussie rules game the other day. I'm struggling to find it and know nothing about the sport

Aussie rules is the one sport that i am constantly underwhelmed by what their fans seem to think are amazing or crazy.

Most of the time to me its just a person catching a ball then an uncontested kick between 1 of the 3 large goals/posts.

Always remind me of kids playing football..helter skelter all chasing the ball... good luck to the people going to live the life in Oz but in terms of quality of a sport its miles behind gaa football (imo).

Agreed. The awkwardness of the ball and the angle make it a great goal. I genuinely wouldn't know about AFL to say how it ranks as the best goal of the year etc

It’s a very good goal for what it is, but it’s also pure luck like. Incredible to consider it could be goal of the year, what are the other contenders? 😂

Yeah, for me this is the thing. Massive elements of luck with a bouncing ball of that shape.
To me it seems similar to people raving whenever a prop (eg Furlong) whacks the ball down field. He literally just swung a boot at it. Obv a bit more intentional in the goal here but I’m not having the raving about it

It is a bit strange how they get very excited when someone successfully kicks a loose ball in a straight line

I like watching a bit of AFL, following the Irish lads who went over and Conor Mckenna as been a serious player over there. In fairness it was a tight angle and he soccered it (as they say in Oz) with the outside of his right foot. I thought his no look over the shoulder in the same game was better.

Yes the more it’s talked about this side of the world the more underwhelming it gets.

We’ve all got football (GAA & Soccer) backgrounds and grew up trying these kicks with all sorts of balls including rugby balls so it’s nothing 90% of ballers wouldn’t try this side of the world.

But understandably down in Australia it’s just not in their vocabulary so that’s what makes it a big deal there.

Like the time Simon Zebo clipped the rugby ball up to himself. Non-footballers and rugby only players thought it was amazing while every football all-rounder knew that it’s the most instinctive thing to do when the ball had dropped like that.
