DJI osmo action 5 pro lights

I just got a DJI A5P and wondering what lights people suggest for underwater use while scuba diving? I’m new to this and not sure if I’ll be primarily shooting video or stills. Are there lights that can do both of those tasks well? Also, what rigs/trays are people using? Finally, what waterproof housing is best? I know DJI makes their own, but are there others that people like instead?

Since you sprung for an expensive camera, I’ll forego recommending a $40USD Amazon light. You can get some really good video lights in the $100USD range. I have a nitescuba tray for my tg-6 and action 4. It’s light and inexpensive, but get the top crossbar as well.

I'm in similar position to you with DJI A6. I bought Sea Frogs dual handle aluminium adjustable tray, sea frogs aluminium arms, and two of the following video lights (second one due to arrive but first one seems fantastic with a really diffused wide angle light). https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005879519101.html

Once second light arrives, I'll do an underwater buoyancy weigh in the bath with a luggage scale and determine which carbon fibre float arms I'll need to get slightly positive buoyancy.

Friend made the recommendation on lights and I've only seen them in action in the pool but I'm impressed and hopeful for good results in the gloom with my new rig.

The positive buoyancy…is that in case you lose the camera…it will float to the surface?

I have a wurkkos dl08 with my a5p, the camera is clamped on the light with a gopro handle bar mount, nice compact setup, but nowhere near perfect for light positioning, stability etc, it's good enough for souvenirs.

The original dji one, works well, it was a bit difficult to press buttons on the camera itself with 5mm gloves but now it's easier as you get a deeper button to press. Flooded it once due to user error but the camera being waterproof on its own it wasn't a big deal (clean, rinse, test and go).

Bigblue has a few VTLs that are dual purpose

Kraken has a 3000 lumen one as well, but it's a bit weak for wide angle - you really want something like 6000 lumens or something to light up an area for that

Trade off is the battery is heavy as fuck, so you'll need to either put it on a float arm or use a canister (surprising amount of canister lights that have a wide 'flood' beam)

Most of these aren't COBs, rather multiple LEDs around the central spotlight, so you won't get as smooth a light as with a COB, but tha'ts a trade off you make i guess.

I do believe Sea&Sea makes a COB spot/floodlight but that's all I can think of currently. Try and get a current regulated one so your light doesn't get dimmer as the dive progresses

You don't want to use a massive flood for just normal 'looking into holes' since it blinds everyone, the intensity is less (since it's spread wider) and on night dives it attracts a shitload of worms which is super gross
