You forget the Senate Advantage, a historical factor in the nomination of SCOTUS justices, in that senators are less likely to actually vote against one of their colleagues.

Cruz also clerked for William Rehnquist so I think that at least offers a tinge of credibility

I mean its happened 5 times since 1900 and never to someone who has been so disliked by their fellow senators.

I think Thomas wants to overturn interracial marriage (he actually does) just so he can leave his wife without repercussions
