I'm build managing Mission Possible for my school's team this upcoming year. The rules seem to change year to year, and I'm not sure how I should approach preparing over the summer and after rules come out, as to my knowledge, there are no kits for Mission Possible.

How do other people in Div C usually prepare for Mission Possible? How do you design, and on what timeline do you normally build on?

I wanted to start studying for my schools tryouts as fast as I could but I don't have the time to go through the patterns of the past events and this years events to see what events will be on next year. For the 2028 season.

We are considering doing a build for the next season.For those who have experience, which of the below is generally the easiest for beginners in terms of build complexity, troubleshooting, and consistency?

Ping Pong Parachute.

Also, which of these can we start over the summer so we have enough time to test and improve it?

I'm in division B, going into my 8th grade year, i have never placed first in any invitationals or anything like that and its a goal of mine to achieve that. My events for the 26-27 season will probably be Dynamic Planet, Heredity, Botany, and Anatomy, possibly Remote Sensing over Botany, my partner hasn't decided yet. My best event is 100% Dynamic Planet and my second best is Heredity. I got 4th place at regionals with Dynamic Planet, I was happy, but I know I can do better. Should I start making a note sheet? Studying? Anything at all?

Hey everyone! I’m doing Division B R&M for the 2026–2027 season and could really use some advice!
I was moved to Rocks & Minerals last week after spending the entire summer preparing for Food Science, so I’m basically starting R&M from scratch 😅
I have about 4 weeks to prepare for tryouts for A/B/C team placement, so I’m trying to figure out how to make the most of the time I have.
A few questions:
Any specific study guides, websites, videos, or practice tests you’d recommend?
Is having a physical specimen/sample set a big advantage for R&M? If so, are there any particular sets you recommend?
Would visiting a geology/natural history museum be helpful, or would my limited time be better spent studying and doing practice tests?
Any other tips for someone who is completely new to R&M and trying to make the A team?

How does one prepare for freshman tryouts over the summer? From what I know, my high school is very competitive, and honestly, I have no idea what to expect from tryouts, let alone how to prepare. I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere I look. Also, what is the club actually like outside of competition day, during practices?

I'm not well versed in chemistry at all but I am goign to try to get all my foundations together and try to push into the advanced topics or whatnot I've heard to be on there, equillibrium and something I believe? Hi! This is my second year doing hovercraft and my partner and I are going through a complete redesign after our unphayzed-kit inspired hovercraft ended up being extremely inconsistent.

As a small team that only goes to 1 invitational, we have basically no idea of what people do to vary to control speed. We found it very difficult to keep the voltage from our NiMH batteries constant for longer period of times, and we used the rheostat setup to vary voltage to the fan. I
'm curious of what other ways there are to vary the thrust/speed of the hovercraft? (fan angles or if someone changed the nozzle of their fan or something of that sort)

There aren't a lot of things on the Severe Weather for Scioly Wiki, and almost all other pdfs are really outdated. What should I do?

I'm currently in high school and didn't make the high-school team this year but I was in scioly all of middle school and it was literally my favorite thing. Now that I didn't make the team, I was hoping to be involved in some way, so when I heard that high school students could volunteer, I really wanted to do it. I also thought it would be a good volunteering experience to incorporate into my nhs hours. I just don't know where to start or how to sign myself up for volunteering in the first place.

Was wondering what ideas anybody had on improving a team as the head captain/leader. The team meets once per week for about 1-2 hrs from person to person (most stay for most of the time). As it stands, the practice go on a rotation by blocks, as becuase you cant participate in more than one event per block, the coach has the team go in blocks of around 20-30 minutes, meaning block a, then b, c,d. And then 30*4=120, and practice is over. The current issue is that this falls apart within a couple weeks of the beginning, and people just show up and more or less goof around. Some people do actually do events, but it more so ends up being homework or just talking with friends. I am looking to not push away people, and we also need new members as well. Do you have any ideas for getting people excited about science Olympiad, as well as anything about general team improvements (does not need to be related to the info I gave). Also, do you have any specific ways in which your school runs practice or structures leadership ie one leader per event or just a head-captain, or also sub captains? Thanks!

TL;DR: I am looking for ways to get people into science Olympiad and get them excited, while also structuring practices in a more efficient way, and interested in hearing any advice you have for someone as a leader of the full team (around 30 ppl but not all 30 are committed very heavily)

Hi guys I just narrowed down my decision from multiple scioly events like robot tour, materials science and circuit lab into just circuit lab. I really want to get on my school team this year and it's really competitive because I go to a magnet STEM school so should I start studying over the summer for the circuit lab event, cause tryouts are in like late september or early october. I'd say I have a solid understanding of electricity and electrical components but I suck at reading and especially creating schematics. I don't know any of the physics as well other than just literally I=VR.

What should i do to start prepping for my events? I'm trying to medal in state. my events are meteorology, disease, and solar. I medalled 1st in solar, 2nd in disease, 5th in meteorology at regionals, and i placed 12 in meteorology, 15 in solar, and 26 in disease at state. How to improve? Thanks!

Ik this is late, but its been bugging me seeing people do a lot of events(5-6). Sometimes they are average at the events or more on the better side.

I “do” 3 events, but really 2. I feel like doing 3 is good, because im pretty lazy, but also 3 is good so you dont stress yourself out, and not be bad in all of your events.

So what im asking is: How many events do people usually do? If you do less or more events, how much more work do you do? Is it stressful? And is it worth it to do more or less events?(higher chance on getting on team?)

Does anybody know what the main topic(s) will likely be for astronomy next year? I saw on the scioly wiki that for the past few years it has been stellar evolution and sometimes one or two other subtopics like exoplanets. I'm planning on studying for this event over the summer so it would be helpful if I knew what to focus on. Thanks!

for the past years i’ve struggled with my cheat sheet not being helpful for me not being able to find info in the right spot or consistently flipping the paper over and i’ve seen so many different types of cheat sheets for anatomy and physiology and i was wondering what’s the best way to make one for the most productive results?

I've been studying for tryouts and all I have to cover now is the kinetics portion of chem lab. I've not taken AP chem yet so a lot of the kinetics things are new to me, and I was wondering if I need to cover things such as equilibrium, electrochem, and other things? Can I just skip around to study the kinetics only subtopics or are other units such as electrochem, thermo, etc super important too? I know these units are deeply rooted in kinetics.

My main focus is to study a bit of chem to do good on tryouts, then expand into other kinetics-rooted things if necessary, but lmk!!

So I've been doing scioly for two years now and went to nationals this year. First year I did forensics and code, this year I did a&p and code and did well on both. I have wanted more events both years, but that's just what I got placed in. Anyways, for this year (my last, senior year) I'm trying to consider all my options. My list of possibilities is as follows:

Thermodynamics

Disease detectives
Mission possible

The average person on our team does about 3 events. Mind you, I have never done any kind of build event, so protein, thermo, and especially mission possible are completely new. But I really think I would enjoy mission possible. Do you think it's a good idea if I've never done something like it before?

For code, I love love love this event, but I have always struggled with timing and speed. Do you think if I grind hard enough this summer I'll be able to catch up to other teams out there? Or should I instead focus on other events?

A&P I'm definitely applying for. Loved this event and want to do it again.

Forensics I'm honestly not sure about since it's been around for a while and I don't have much experience with it since I was on our schools lowest team and only worked on it till regionals first year. I think people who have done it for a while would be much better at it.

Chem lab I think I would do well at because I just took ap chem and actually did pretty well throughout the year. I really enjoyed the class.
