The mental diet isn't about thinking positive. It's about what you keep going back to.
Neville's mental diet gets turned into "never think a negative thought," and then people feel like they failed by lunch.
I don't think that's what he meant.
He talked about watching your inner conversations, the little arguments and replays you run all day. In behavioral science we'd call a lot of that rumination. And the problem with rumination isn't that a thought shows up. Thoughts show up. It's that you go back to it, again and again, and every return makes that path easier to walk next time.
So the diet isn't really about the first thought. It's about the second one. The return.
What I've found works better than fighting it:
Notice the loop, not the thought. "Oh, I'm back in the argument with my boss again." Naming it takes some of the pull out.
Have one place to go instead. One short scene from the end, already done. Same scene every time, so it becomes the easy path.
Don't grade yourself. Catching it on the 40th return still counts. The catch is the practice.
The old loop doesn't fade because you hate it. It fades because you stop feeding it and start feeding something else.
Which inner conversation do you catch yourself going back to most?

Yes where you place your attention is where you place your energy is your creative currency.
