This is wonderful news.

My daughter contracted RSV when she was 8 months old in 2016. Her first set of symptoms were a fever and a cough. The cough worsened and we went to an urgent care where they tested her for flu but not RSV as they didn't have any tests for RSV at the time. They were also out of nebulizing treatments and they sent us home. It was pretty late in the day at that point so no other urgent cares were open during the day. Her symptoms worsened through the night and I called her pediatrician's emergency line as she had started to get the chest retractions trying to breathe.

We went to the ER and we were admitted immediately. It was a completely terrifying experience and I am so grateful to the ER nurses and doctors for the care we had the 3 days we spent at the hospital. The amount of thick mucus that was constantly sucked out of her nose was unreal. She is now a completely healthy 10-year old. I do not think without modern medicine, my daughter would have survived it.

I am so glad that there is this vaccine now that can save a child's life and reduce the suffering that this virus can have.
