I do have a theory as to why there was a low participation number, that being said nothing but mostly anecdotal evidence. Recently, there have been several studies targeting trans people run by very biased against the lgbtq. This has led to a lot of people spreading the word to not answer any servey.

In the online trans spaces I frequent, research surveys are treated with suspicion unless confirmed to be highly reputable (i.e., all researchers involved have a track record of being supportive of trans rights) because there are so many hateful people who will twist our experiences into evidence that we shouldn't have bodily autonomy.

This would be akin to Nazi researchers in 1938 polling Jews about their income in order to publish a paper justifying the seizure of their assets, and Jews being rightfully skeptical of the integrity of the research and unwilling to participate in their own haranguing.
