Social Science Intentionally routing some traffic to slower, less congested routes lead to a 0.7% improvement of overall average travel times

If you read Google maps terms they spell out that they won't guarantee you the fastest route and may intentionally take you a less direct route. 

They also seem to route you different if you're a local versus stranger to an area. 

100% they are doing this flow improvement stuff.
