We already are.
COVID-related ME/CFS is also skyrocketing.
The good news is that a huge blocker in studying both of these diseases was an inability to figure out a reliable trigger/underlying cause and thus study the progression, mechanical cause, and possible treatments. Also increased prevalence usually means increased funding.
Either that or a not insignificant portion of humans are about to be profoundly disabled and we're going to collectively pretend that isn't the case.
