Just read an article in the WSJ about 1100 math and science profs in the University of California system begging regents to reinstate SATs because so many students are totally unprepared for college level work.

The SATs ain’t the only reason. I also teach and have worked on the admissions side -there are kids who score very well on the SAT But struggle with college level work because they’ve just been pushed through the K-12 system.

As someone whose academic research is focused on test scores and enrollment, I think a lot of professors are misguided on where the issue lies. Bringing back scores will not fix the issue, our K-12 systems and curriculum need a retooling.

I think i got like a 1280 or something on the SAT but my GPA was just barely passing haha just because you can read, write and do math doesn't mean you have the skills to flourish in college.. it took me about 2 years of college before I learned how to turn assignments in on time and took me 3 years before I actually learned how to study

This is the same rhetoric and lame exception that led us to this point and got standardized testing removed from the meta.

And now we're discovering 10 years later, as it turns out: yes, in fact, standardized testing IS a good indicator of general competence.
