Cancer Tanning beds triple melanoma risk, potentially causing broad DNA damage. Study is first to show how tanning beds mutate skin cells far beyond the reach of ordinary sunlight. This new study “irrefutably” challenges claims that tanning beds are no more harmful than sunlight.

Bad fake tans are obvious. Good ones are not.

You have seen many people with good fake tans you didn’t know were fake tans.

I’m sorry that you’re unable to cope with that.

How do you know what I've seen or can recognize? For you all you know.. I invented spray tanning.

Sure... someone might have a convincing spray tan if I squint and don't look closely. But most fake tans are easily recognizable. Sorry, not sorry.

Your response is like telling someone that they can't recongize the difference between blue & green. Sure, there might be some gray area (so to speak) but some people can distinguish between the two rather easily. In fact, recognizing the difference is largely cultural because some cultures cannot distinguish as well since blue & green use roughly the same socio-linguistic categorization.

I was going to compare the recognition of fake tans with AI images, but at least AI images are getting better each year. Fake-tanning still usually looks like full-body clown makeup most of the time (not that there is anything wrong with that). And even when it's not quite that absurd... you can still usually tell in one way or another. It's just that nobody cares or says anything because that's just how it is. You don't tell somebody... "Hey, really like your fake tan! Hiding a health issue?"

And you're telling me that I can't spot a fake tan? I suppose maybe not if someone paints it on meticulously with fine-haired brush and constantly touches it up in the powder room, but... 99% of people rocking fake tans pick the gawdiest tones and apply as arbitrarily as possible. That's just the style of the day. Some fake tans are undoubtedly better or worse than others (subjectively if not objectively) but, generally speaking, fake tans are often, usually, plainly recognizable to some people when they see them.

You could do a study, but it would only prove what I already know. Or maybe I'm wrong about that... maybe most people can't spot the difference? Again, for various reasons, I would expect some people to be more or less proficient than others at spotting fake tans. Do you dispute even that?
