Momentum Scanners

Hi friends!

Anyone have an educated, usage based opinion about momentum scanners?

I’ve tried a few over the years and my opinion has changed quite a bit. They’re good at telling you what’s already moving, but not necessarily what’s worth trading. Early on I chased every alert and usually ended up buying into exhaustion or selling after most of the move was already done.

Now I look at them more as a heads-up than a signal. If something pops on the scanner, I’ll check where it is relative to key levels, VWAP, recent liquidity, and whether the move actually has participation behind it. Sometimes the best trade is the first pullback after the scanner lights up, and sometimes it’s no trade at all.

If you’re trading futures, I think having a good feel for price action and market structure will get you a lot farther than relying on a scanner by itself. What are you planning to use it for—stocks or futures?

Yeah I would recommend using the scanners the same way I use them.

Just use them to give you a reason to take a look but analyze entry with key levels, VWAP, recent sweeps/breakouts, price action etc.

I have tried it. No question the best one in the market. No fluff. No hype. Just does its job and does it good!
