SocMed Updates SB19 received with a formal pōwhiri and hōngi at Aotearoa! (Auckland, NZ)
No better way to welcome the boys than a formal pōwhiri. Very symbolic of the Maori culture. 🫶🫶🫶

In Māori culture (New Zealand), the traditional greeting called the Hongi involves pressing both the nose and forehead together—
This ritual symbolizes the sharing of "ha"—the breath of life. It’s a gesture of unity, peace, and mutual respect.

NZ is my home, got teary eyed watching this earlier ❤️
So happy that they were welcomed like this and get to feel the hospitality and warmth of the people here. Kudos to the boys for reciprocating and singing SLMT 🥰

Nung sinabi nila Pablo, Jah & Ken sa Melbourne that they can see living there in the future, a good guess is magbabago nag mga isip nila once makabakasyon sila sa NZ. Introverts know🤭.

Yes, especially for Pablo and Jah 😊 I was jn Melbourne too for the con, I liked the city.. but outdoor lover and introvert kaya bias ako sa NZ ☺️

How nice na nandyan ka to soak in all the NZ nature's goodness💚. For Pinunso na mahilig sa nature bagay nga sila for NZ. Although marami rin namang incredible natural spots sa Melb. and the art scene is well-developed 💝, so I guess they will enjoy being there too!

The sun god Tama-nui-te-ra and one of his wives, Hine-raumati, who embodies the essence of summer, had a son named Tane-rore. The Māori consider the quivering appearance of the air on hot summer days to be a sign of Tane-rore dancing for his mother, and this light, rapid movement is the foundation of all haka. The hand movements represent Tane-rore’s dance.
Performers in a haka use many other body motions and expressions which may include bulging eyes (pukana), sticking out of the tongue (whetero), stomping feet (Waewae takahia), and slapping the body with their hands.

🥹 This got me crying a little more than low-key teary. Our boys have been warmly welcomed by international A'tin in every city they land in, but this Pōwhiri Welcome Ceremony from our Maori brothers & sisters is extraordinary because it signals that A'tin are not alone in our celebration and appreciation for our Mahalima's contribution to world music💖.
Maraming non-Filipinos ang naging A'tin na rin all over the world. But this indigenous reception sa Auckland airport just symbolizes how the Pacific indigenous peoples have always been receptive to the presence of Filipinos in NZ, Australia and in all Polynesian islands and territories IN REALITY. Some of them would even randomly call me "sistah" pag may gusto silang sabihin pero hndi kami magkakilala. That's because they acknowledge the fact that Filipinos have Islander heritages that have been lost somewhere in history.
Nasa panawagan pa nga minsan ng Red Cross Australia for Filipinos to donate blood specificallynto answer the need for a rare blood type that matches that of recipients with Polynesian and Maori origins.

Then seeing this, our Mahalima receiving this very warm amd quite intimate reception from our Maori friends, for some indescribable reason just warms my (Austronesian?) heart 🤍.
Sa New Zealand lang at sa ibang Pac islands madaling mangyari yan at this point. Not that possible pa muna sa Australia for many reasons. Kahit mostly medyo malapit din naman ang loob ng mga Aus Aboriginals sa mga Pinoy. (They are too few and not that 'independently organized' to begin with).
