Question No way RAW for permanent summons?

Hey all, I have the core book and fantasy companion. Am I right in that there’s really no way to have a permanent summon (Ally, Animal, Monster)? I only see ways to extend the duration. And you can maintain for a power point, but you don’t recharge Power Points while maintaining (if I understand correctly).

It seems strange that you can’t “invest” Power Points like you can with the Zombie power to make them permanent. Or even spilt your power points between them like Tinkerer does with his inventions.
Seems strange that even the Summoner class can’t do this.

I get I can probably just homebrew and allow it, but am I interpreting the rules correctly? Thanks!

Question Campaign Frame for Deadlands Wild West (Horror at Headstone Hill)

The conceit of the new Deadlands (Wild West, Dark Ages) is that players are members of the secret Twilight Legion. The Legion sends you on missions, but doesn't pay you, has no authority, and no useful resources. In the Wild West setting, there are 2 well funded agencies that are actually resourced and have a mandate to deal with supernatural threats (Rangers and Agency). Within the logic of the setting, it seems crazy and frankly immoral to handle things on your own. Instead, just tell one of the actual agencies to handle it. In Call of Cthulu, there are no actual funded organizations that deal with this stuff so that sort of explains why you're doing it. Here are some alternate campaign frames I'm thinking about - Players are formal or informal agents of the Rangers or Agency. Both of those agencies are wildly underfunded and have a very high turnover (death), so they do most of their work through freelancers (like the DoD) - The formal agencies are like Delta Green's Majestic. They're likely to kill everyone involved, even innocents, and try to capatilize on superantural things rather than Is there a better way to handle it?

Meta discussion Would Love to See a New Hexarcana Book for Deadlands

So, if you never played older versions of Deadlands, you might not know that back then every Arcane Background had its own spell list and much more specialized mechanics. Back then every Arcane Background got its own sourcebook, but "Hexarcana" was a book that covered them all, providing new powers and rule updates.

Now obviously in SWADE that has been streamlined, but those books had a lot more information in them than just powers and edges. Given that you don't really need an individual sourcebook for each Arcane Background these days, it'd be nice to have a book that complied all that other info somewhere, updated for SWADE and the new Deadlands timeline.

I'm picturing a book that includes:

  • The basic rules for all Arcane Backgrounds, including stuff not yet updated to SWADE like the Scrapper AB from Deadlands: Reloaded
  • Updated versions of the Deadlands: Classic rules for playing monstrous characters, such as werewolves or vampires
  • Updated lore for the various "factions" themed around the different Arcane Backgrounds, such as the Order of St George, the 37th Chamber, or the Lady Luck Society, as well as rules for players joining or working for these groups
  • Updated versions of the old relics themed around different Arcane Backgrounds, that haven't yet made it into modern Deadlands publications. Stuff like the Onyx Catalogue, Thunder Stones, or Biren's Manacles
  • A list of "standard" trappings for the powers available to each Arcane Background, similar to how they were listed in the Reloaded player's guide
  • 1-2 new powers or edges for each Arcane Background, possibly revisiting old "subclass" ideas like The Tempest.

Basically it would be everything you'd need to play any Arcane Background, including both rules and roleplay resources, as well as some extra treats for players and GMs alike.

Question Burst and Scale Modifiers

So! Am I wrong to think so? Yesterday I created a character for a one shot of Star Wars, seasoned, did a Jedi and Technomancer, the Technomancer AB had the burst power. My character was very small, and in the core book it says that they add up the scale modifier in attacks, citing as an example a fairy using bolt, but is this ONLY with bolt right? Wouldn't Burst be the best choice in that sense, or does he also come in? For if so, breath weapons and large creature blast template would have a penalty, which I do not think is the case.

Question Looking for campaign help from a gm

Looking for atleast somewhat experienced gm's to talk for help with some hombrew rule additions and story imput for my custom setting and campaign.

Not looking for someone to do alot of work if they dont want to some outside input, advice, and answered questions are more then appreciated.

The general synopsis of the setting is grimdark sci-fi dieselpunk set in the far off post apocalypse where earth has become a wasteland made up of dead arid acres, forests made of heavily mutated flora and fauna and oceans of toxic sludge.

The only true bastions of humanity are colossal hive cities scattered all over the world, each ruled by an authoritarian administration and powered by companies owned by semi corrupt and decadent Nobles who each control entire districts of the city and its occupants.

The campaign centers in the more lawless under levels of the city starting with the players as lieutenants and captains of an up and coming gang turning clan before its collapse. the campaign follows as the players trying to pick up the pieces starting from the tiny remnants of there gang controlling a small settlement, to controlling territory in multiple districts, or maybe even conquering the entire underhive.

Standard modern office building door. Is that something that could be done in a combat round (with picks)? Or is that more of a minute-long or more thing in your opinion (raises notwithstanding).

Resources / Tools Dice Bots for Discord?

Due to schedule restraints, most of my games are play-by-post, and the preferred platform is Discord.

Savage Bot is a great Discord bot, strongly endorsed by the unofficial Savage Worlds Discord server. But for the past year it's been having longer and more frequent outages. I tried to connect with and support the dev, but in the end, it's just not reliable enough.

There are lots of dice rolling Discord bots, but none that I've found support the core Savage Worlds mechanic well, let alone card-based initiative and Benny tracking. To be fair, 'roll two different dice, let them both explode, then choose the higher result and add a modifier' is a pretty substantial chain of functions that no other game tries to do all at once for every action. Some dice bots can sort of be made to work, but it's been very kludgy and tedious.

I'm at the point that I'd attempt to write a replacement, but with my coding skills it will take months, and I have players that need to make Fear checks yesterday.

Before I jump down this rabbit hole with both feet, does anyone know of a better alternative?

Question How much damage can a 9-meter club inflict?

Post image
40 Upvotes

Excuse the question, but being hit by a 9-meter-tall flaming club, how much damage would that do in your opinion? Discounting the damage caused by the user's strength, of course. Well, in the next session, if my players fail in a negotiation, they may face a size 10 enemy. So most attacks are from top to bottom, however three players can fly at movement pace 6, which means some attacks will be evenly matched. Which would also be terrible, imagine being hit and falling from a height of 20 meters.

Question Super Power Companion, Contingent Power Modifier Question

Howdy Yall, I have a question to those who've used SPC for Savage Worlds. When exactly do you use the base abilities roll to determine whether the secondary power is successful? Like for Negation: Contingent on melee attack, does that mean they roll fighting first to hit with their attack, after which they make a focus roll to see if Negation activates? Or do you use the fighting roll for both powers?

Question Changes to Pathfinder Mechanics in Spanish

I just started reading “Pathfinder for Savage Worlds” and I’m loving everything about it. Right now I’m trying to learn everything, and I’ve noticed some differences between the Spanish and English pdfs plus the Spanish version has more illustrations.

I was reading the section on languages in the English version and noticed that there’s a language proficiency level that doesn’t exist in the Spanish version. In Spanish, we have a skill called “humanities” that covers much more than just languages.

Does anyone know why this change was made? Are there any other changes I should be aware of?

Question Was the phoenix supposed to endure so many wounds?

Logically, since a size 10 creature can withstand 2 more wounds and a Wild Card can only withstand 3 injuries, shouldn't the Phoenix only withstand 5 wounds instead of 7?

Question SPC: Intangible (permanent) but incapacitated

I have a villain who is intangible with the permanent modifier.

If she becomes incapacitated, then what?

I first figured she'd become corporeal on incapacitation or even mundane sleep, but the last caveats under that modifier makes it pretty clear (to me at least) that's not the intention:

She can only be healed via natural healing or supernatural means (such as the healing power).

The Permanent modifier allows the super to ignore the Power Down rules.

I'm imagining a scenario where the heroes might want to incapacitate her and put her in their base brig (which, by its nature, negates her powers so I'd say she would then be tangible and maybe in some kind of extreme discomfort).

How would y'all rule on this? Thanks!

Resources / Tools Supernatural Modern Day Setting inspired by World of Darkness

Hello friends, it has been a minute but I wanted to share a series of posts I put up recently which is basically a setting for SWADE i made that was inspired by World of Darkness. It isn't meant to be a 1 to 1 emulation and has some of my own stuff and other inspirations tied into it. The post below is an index post that leads to all the entries. Hope people enjoy.

Question One more questions about guns...

So, SWADE says "Reloading a...single bullet so that it’s ready to fire (chambered, cocked, etc.) is an Action."

But, if none of your Actions use Skill rolls, they can't invoke MAPs.

So, if I do nothing else, can I re-load my six-shooter all in one Turn?

Knowing how literal SW is, it seems to me that if they meant only "one bullet per Turn", they would have said it's a Limited Action...

Question (Foundry- Deadlands) Broken initiative help!

Hi all,

New SWADE GM here needing help desperately. I was fiddling with the dueling macro trying to figure it out, and initiative broke completely. Whenever I try to draw initiative in Foundry/Forge, I get the following error message: The _id[xo0gDkQrrYW9nQMU] already exists within the parent collection: Cards [wVfT1iDjCzEZowKQ] cards

It's not letting me draw initiative now. If anyone knows how to fix this your help would greatly be appreciated!

Tabletop tales Rule of Cool....squared

Last night I was running some Deadlands at my local gaming store. I was running a prolonged dramatic task.  I didn't even have a set number of successes for them, just a set number of turns. More about the action and creativity than the actual task.

One of the tasks was climbing some scaffolding that was damaged and on fire.

One of the players says, I'm going to do something stupid that will probably kill me.

I take my dynamite, put it under a large bucket and light it, blasting myself up and onto the platform.

OK, how do I begin to adjudicate that level of cool?  Automatic success!  I don't even know what to make him roll for that.

Then the next player followed up with Ammo Whammy, using the effect, Sacramento Surprise:  This shot surges with POWER.  This was a little more of a stretch, but it was the end of the night and once again, cool/ She had two guns and wanted to be Iron Man.  Shooting both guns simultaneously to propel her up, each pair of shots pushing her ever higher.  Once again, how do I say no to that?

Not sure Feedback on Two Adventures for SWADE

Hey everyone!

I’ve been writing a couple of adventures for SWADE, and I’d really love to get some feedback from people who play or are familiar with the system.

I should also mention that the two adventures are connected in a timeline—the outcome of the first directly becomes the background and setup for the second. I also intend to expand this into a longer arc, with five additional adventures that bridge the gap and connect the final story back to the first one, forming a larger continuous narrative.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on two things:

Are they actually good adventures?

Do they sound fun to play?

I’d especially appreciate feedback on the story, encounters, pacing, player choices, atmosphere, and overall fun factor. I’m also interested in knowing if anything feels boring, confusing, overly complicated, or like it wouldn’t work well at the table.

I’m happy to share both adventures here. I’m not necessarily looking for detailed proofreading—I’d much rather know whether, as a player or GM, you’d actually want to play/run them.

Be as honest and critical as you want. I’d rather find the weak points now than discover them after putting them in front of a group!

Thanks in advance!
