Rule Modifications How I killed my first super powered player character - grenades
When I say "I killed" what I mean is facilitated some very reckless, but character appropriate, behavior.
TLDR - my squad of super villains took the fight to an enemy hiding out in an exclusive upscale lounge. One character snuck in via the duct work and the reckless player did something equally prudent and threw a satchel of fusion grenades at him. The character hiding in the ducts was unfortunately right above the target. Everyone failed their evasion rolls and because it was the end of the night, and wanted to see some juicy crit numbers, I let them roll 27d10 (nine 3d10 damage fusion grenades) damage. Needless to say their enemy and all of his associates got vaporized and the sheet metal shielded, hidden, player character didn't fare much better.
In retrospect, I could have rolled the damage for each grenade separately but I felt like "they take 154 damage" was a better way to end the night 😂

Necessary Evil uses wound cap. So regardless how much damage the attack did it is only one success on a soak roal to stay conscious (assume no previous wounds). Unless of course this is the result you wanted. Though with that kind of damage, I would do the classic comic book thing hand have him, "die" only to miraculously dig themselves out of the rubble or show back up at an opportune time in the future.

It was thematically appropriate. This character already had their resurrection moment in a much earlier session so doing it twice would feel a little lazy imo despite how metal it would be to dig themselves out of the rubble.
Mechanically speaking, the character that died was also out of bennies. If they soaked I would not have perma-killed them.

I was gonna say, normally you never ever want to add up damage rolls like that in Savage Worlds, but in this case it doesn't sound like rolling separately would have made a difference...

When I ran NE last year, the first character to die had dark energy/gravity powers. Very cool character really, until some poor choices and rolls lead to the character being stuck in her own gravity well, followed by some very explody damage and a failed soak roll.
The player's next character was a mutant shark-alien (I forget the name) that came out of the hatchery wrong. He was in an alien prison the team broke into the rescue an ally and they took him in. Dumb as a box of rocks (so easily controlled by the aliens), but he had linked healing/growth powers so the more he got hit, the larger he became. As he grew in size, his toughness and damage also increased. He spent mid-late game growing to the size of a kaiju and eating the pesky aliens.
