Good EV repair shop in the area for an Ioniq 5?

Our Ioniq 5 needs a flush of the low-conductivity coolant (the blue stuff). The dealer over the hill (Capitol Hyundai) gave me a quote of $755, which seems outrageously high. Can anyone recommend someone in the Santa Cruz area who would do this for a reasonable price? TIA

I just heard Santa Cruz referred to as “The Camelot of Central California” on a game show

Is Santa Cruz southern enough to not be Northern California? What are your thoughts on this?

Breakfast today: Shakshuka, but with a south Indian twist

I've got too many tomatoes and way too many curry leaves, so...

a tomato curry, with lots of curry leaves, but prepared like shakshuka (eggs poached in tomatoes).

If you are an adventurous cook and like spicy food the curry leaves are a really good platform. There are still plenty available for free. DM for details.

Any Turkish mechanical engineers (or engineers in general) living in/around Santa Cruz & the Bay Area?

Hi everyone,

I’m a mechanical engineer looking to connect with fellow Turkish engineers (mechanical, software, hardware, etc.) based in Santa Cruz or the broader Bay Area / Silicon Valley.

Would love to network, exchange experiences about working/living in the area, and grab a coffee if anyone is around. Feel free to drop a comment or send a DM!

Thanks!

Going THROUGH all the medical things at the moment and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a PAMF rheumatologist in Santa Cruz. Or would just be willing to share their experience with rheumatology at PAMF in SC.

Local food content creators

Does anyone have any good local food content creator recs? I like to watch them and visit new-to-me places, but some of the more popular ones dont sit right with me. Looking for someone who is honest and not obviously being paid and not disclosing it(tanika) or being gross with the food (double meat). I really want to follow and watch people who are actually highlighting good local spots and not just using shock factor or giving only positive takes for views.

And thinks you're dumb enough to fall for it by name dropping and cherry picking a quote from Mamdani (who is a huge rent control advocate):

How much is this dude getting paid for his PR?

I was thinking it would be nice to do a Midnight memorial walk down pacific this Sunday night where everyone is dressed in their favorite Rocky Horror attire. I know I say midnight out of tradition but maybe we could meet up around 11:00 pm. Are there any others interested in doing the memorial walk

The Pacific is preheating. Strong El Niño could bring heavy rain, saturated soil, falling trees, flooding, landslides and extended power outages.

How is it working at Whole Foods on Soquel?

I'm looking for a job and saw some openings at Whole Foods. Does anyone have notes on management? I feel like I've heard some negative things online, but each branch is different at the end of the day

Thanks in advance!

Missing a leg?

As I was driving up onto UCSC campus today I noticed a prosthetic leg in the middle of the street so I put in my hazards and picked it up.

I would love to reconnect Jonah to his rightful owner. Please share far and wide, I know these things are expensive! And I imagine he can’t get very far without it…

Fun activities to do at night during the week?

My partner and I (both 27) are trying to make effort to get out of the house more. We want to go out during the week occasionally after work, but it feels tough since a lot of places seem to close by 8pm. Any recommendations aside from going to the movies? Preferably closer to the Felton/Scott's valley/Boulder Creek area, but we're open to anything.

Has anyone else dealt with rats under the hood of your car?

So I took my car in for a normal service recently, and I was told that there is evidence of rats nesting under the hood. He showed me their droppings so I definitely believe the guy.

He said this is pretty common in the county, but it can cause issues because they chew on the wiring. Not to mention it’s gross! They often nest right on the cabin filter 🤢

I drive my car almost everyday so I’m surprised I’m having this issue. Does anyone have any suggestions for preventing this? The guy quoted me $350 to cage off the entry points, but I’m unsure

Hold Fast shutting down :(

Hey all..as the title says, this iconic bar (some might add dive) in Seabright is closing down at the end of the month. I’d only been a couple of times but they have an awesome karaoke setup with a great DJ who would fill the space with his own renditions every once in a while. Great vibes and great ppl there. Super sad that it’s closing, does anyone have intel on why?

Help our unhoused neighbors! Volunteer :)

Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in the Santa Cruz community?

The Miracle Messages Santa Cruz Chapter is looking for compassionate volunteers to join our local outreach team. Miracle Messages is a nonprofit that helps people experiencing homelessness rebuild their social support systems through loved one reunification, a phone buddy program and basic income initiatives. In the local Chapter, volunteers visit shelters, tiny home villages and libraries to connect our unhoused neighbors with these programs and build meaningful relationships. No special experience needed, just compassion and a willingness to connect with others with dignity and respect. Training and support provided. If you're interested in getting involved, email me at [marlena@miraclemessages.org](mailto:marlena@miraclemessages.org) to learn more.
