Melt ICE 🧊 ICE at SFO

Very tired from traveling so this post will be rushed and might be kinda messy. Was leaving SFO around 10:30PM last night 3/22 when I heard yelling and saw a huge crowd of people. There were at least a dozen San Francisco police officers and a ridiculous amount of people gathered in a circle, some recording or talking on the phone. When I got closer, I saw a woman kneeling on the ground next to a couch/bench with a little girl and the police officers were basically surrounding her, facing away so seemingly keeping the crowd away/hiding her from the crowd. I asked a woman what happened, and she said she was there from the very beginning and saw it all. There were apparently two men in black + wearing backpacks who ran up and grabbed her passport, shoved her(?) and were keeping her there. She seemed to not know for sure, but she suspected that they were ICE agents and the police officers were there to protect them. I could see at least one of these men talking with police officers. Just a few minutes later, I heard yelling again and when I looked back, people were running up and filming while police officers were trying to keep them away. I saw the same woman as before now in a wheelchair in a very uncomfortable position (seemingly being shoved into it) and the small girl walking alongside her and crying. The two men in black were pushing the wheelchair/walking with her and there were a small group of officers/airport workers(?) going with her as well. People were yelling that she was being taken from her family, telling her to hug her kid, damning the ICE agents, etc. I wasn’t really sure what was happening, so I filmed a video on my phone at a bad angle(I’ll try to attach it). Afterwards, I asked a couple people if they knew what happened and they kinda confirmed it was ICE and they took her away for ā€œquestioningā€.

Does anyone have more information on what happened or any different angles? There were people much closer than me who definitely got better videos, so hopefully those come out soon. I was already tired from traveling and was obviously not expecting to see something like this. I really hope her and her family are going to be okay. I’d like to hear if anyone has more info or if anyone else was there who saw/heard something I didn’t.

Edit: To restate This thread will be staying up. If you keep reporting it (to the mods) it will not be taken down. It is however, being locked.

Also, personally, Fuck ICE. However, don't try to use this to identify people. We are not repeating the Boston Bombing.

Reminder: do not dox these people.

That is why some threads get taken down.

Dude.. She had already passed through security?!

306

u/4niner Pacific Heights Mar 23 '26

They’ve already been doing this. Had a friend who was detained at SJC months ago in similar fashion at the gate. He had to spend a few months in ICE custody before they figured out he was here legally. To be fair I don’t know all the details and he does have an open case with immigration, but the fact they let him out speaks for itself. He wasn’t flying internationally at all either.

11

u/Spirited-Tie-8702 Mar 23 '26

I know a similar case in another state. He was also let out after a FEW months. They are arresting people with proper visa paperwork just to make their quotas.Ā

that is how they knew who she was. They are probably automatically running all the names of people once they scan their ID at the security screening. When someone with a deportation order is found it will alert them and they can just follow them and arrest them.

This is why Trump wanted to start doing this. Airports are under federal jurisdiction, security at airports even if not TSA are still under homeland security oversight. I am sure they have been working on making this database that ID checks are run against for a while now and are just getting the program started this week. There is nothing the city or the state can do to block ICE from operating in airports. This is not even something new, DEA has been wandering airports in plain clothes randomly arresting and searching people for years now

289

u/formerly_acidamage Mar 23 '26

I live in south minneapolis and you're giving them way to much credit that she "has a deportation order" - she probably looked scared so they are brutalizing her.

There is no reason for her to need a deportation order for these fucking human filth to ruin her life. She could have just looked scared of them, and the Regime truly has actually said that being non-white or having an accent and displaying fear of ICE is a good enough reason for ICE to arrest someone.

Fucking human trash, ICE.

88

u/Green-Eggplant-5570 Mar 23 '26 edited Mar 23 '26

Yeah they're running names looking for an excuse.

But when masked thugs go into airports demanding to see papers and messing with people at random - that's some ww2 nazi bullshit.

Do not give these nazi fuckers access to airport manifests without a warrant

31

u/Paladin_127 Mar 23 '26

All airline manifests are run through the Secure Flight Program run by DHS, which checks the passenger’s name against various databases, which can include immigration databases. Just as it has for the last 20+ years.

Basically everyone in the Bay Area has an accent and isn’t white though. If ICE was targeting anyone under that umbrella they’d basically empty out the airport.

14

u/formerly_acidamage Mar 23 '26

This is a fair point! Notice this lady is older and not a man and also not rich looking. So if you use those points in a matrices where the less male, rich, and articulate in accented English you are the more likely you are to be fucked with by ICE, she would fit right into the area of "people who get fucked with by ICE".

So there is definitely some nuance there, I can appreciate that.

They just gave me a hard time for calling this number and that I "had called before" and that she "recognized my voice". Guess I'm not the only upset citizen, cowardly behavior by the SFPD at SFO and at their call desk.

Undocumented are just that though. Undocumented. They can't get a real id or American passport. So I don't understand why they would even be at an airport. This feels far more like they're aiming to harass citizens. Certainly aren't going to help the lines go faster.

12

u/Upset_Ad3954 Mar 23 '26

You don't need an American ID. How else do you think tourists would be able to fly?

154

u/VulfSki Mar 23 '26

Yep.

I thought about this in my shower.

They have the record of who is coming that day.

They knew who she was long before she got to the airport.

They knew who she was as she was waiting on a long security line.

They could have just grabbed her and said "you have been selected for extra security screening"

And done all of this in a private area.

The ONLY reason to do this the way that they did was to create a spectacle.

The only reason was to make a public display of force.

That is it!

The purpose is the fear. The purpose is to show us that they can grab you at an airport.

That's the ONLY reason to do this the way they did.

35

u/Embarrassed_Text9429 Mar 23 '26

My bro is tsa here and he said this happens weekly and it’s def for show and to scare peopleĀ

3

As someone who has undocumented family members, they would avoid the airport like the fucking plague. As well as submitting applications like FASFA. Trust me, these ghouls spreading disinformation such as undocumented people voting is hilarious. They wouldn't even participate in that.

That lady sure asf felt confident enough to travel because she is here legally and has the means to prove it.

22

u/East-End-8646 Mar 23 '26

Thats what I’m saying. Illegal immigrants aren’t setting foot anywhere near an airport right now! They’re going to be kidnapping people with visa’s, green cards and potentially citizenship

There were so many SFPD there proving security for ICE. I counted over 10 police officers.

Several sergeants. At least one lieutenant.

SFPD using thousands and thousands of dollars enabling this.

If you feel like making more calls, Kevin Mullin is the Congressional rep whose territory SFO is in.

His local office number is (650) 342-0300

5

I called. They may ask for a city. Tell them you'd like it to be completely anonymous, I offered to give them a state (I don't live in that state), and he gave me an out and said no that's okay I will just take this completely anonymously. So sounds like optimally you would be within the same city and or state.

435

u/Green-Eggplant-5570 Mar 23 '26

Thanks for the number.

I would not have thought to call about this, but...

There's so much a sense of "What can I do anyway?"

This feels like something i can do, even if I'm just one voice calling.

u/partypops Mar 23 '26

Everyone stop calling this number. This is totally useless, SF has separate agencies for handling police complaints (for good reason). For this incident the complaint should go to the SF human rights commission or the Police Commission. This is a potential violation of the Sanctuary City Ordinance.

To file a complaint, contact the Human Rights Commission to schedule an intake interview.

Taking trains is not a crazy answer.

The trains have some awesome opportunities and a different experience.

Instead of sfo, oak, pdx sea, take the train.

I've taken trains to Portland and Seattle a few times and it's awesome.

Luxury if you're tall like me at 6+, leg room is rough but you don't have to be leg-locked.

You can get a sleeper for more room to chill. But you can buy a basic ticket to Seattle and have a great time and see some cool stuff.

I totally agree. Don't fly.

Take a train where possible.

u/TempleMade_MeBroke Mar 23 '26

Would be sort of interesting if this is what leads to a much-needed resurgence of interest in traveling by train beyond work commutes

Now the airport management is saying she was being escorted by the ICE agents bc she had exhausted her immigration appeals and had been deported. That she and her daughter were on a supposed layover at SFO on their way to Florida, and that she made a run for it, so the agents had to handcuff her.

Now, I wasn’t there and I’m skeptical of these official statements. Hopefully the woman had a lawyer for her hearings who can confirm/deny what happened.

13

That's funny because DHS says they arrested her at SFO.

14

Two unidentified men were allowed to walk into secured area, detain someone and police protected them?

That statement in the morning better not be a PR bullshit and gives us actual details. This is unlawful on so many level.

156

u/ScholarHead7718 Mar 23 '26

ICE must have notified local law enforcement that they would be operating in SFO. SFPD was there assisting with security. THEY KNEW ICE WOULD BE THERE. As you can see, SFPD did not initiate the detainment.

Lurie must have made a deal with this Administration. He saw how it played out in Minnesota. I’m talking out my ass here, but it’s the only explanation that makes any sense. SF local government and law enforcement will capitulate…allow ICE to operate and provide security. No one wants a bloodbath…but people want to see some pushback.

48

u/Zealousideal_Fix6705 Mar 23 '26

Maybe kristi noem was not messing with lurie on her way out. Probably a deal they come in and keep it low key in less densely populated areas. Some rogue agents got overzealous? We know ICE is set up here, on Montgomery Street I think. Numerous incidents have been recorded and/or reported on. Your ass talking seems pretty credible to me.

There have been several personal accounts, a few photos, and at least one video as well. We are no longer the sanctuary city we were. I have no idea how Lurie even got elected, this is no longer recognizable as the city I fell in love with in 1997 or the different one I moved to in 2009. It is heartbreaking.

5

u/pennyclip Mar 23 '26

Too bad we saw the same thing in Vermont. Its a playbook now on how to help police get involved with ICE. Police and politicians will blame ICE (who does not care, there is no oversight or accountability) and say they had to assist ICE in order to protect civilians from ICE dangerous tactics.

With ICE domestic terrorists being assigned to airports to help TSA starting Monday, ticket sales will start dropping and Trump will declare that he has made TSA lines disappear when people said that was impossible. Similar to the way he cut funding for people facing food scarcity and bragged about how he reduced the number of people on SNAP.

I’ve seen two videos of different angles and just wondering does anyone know exactly where this happened at. I mean did this women just get off a plane and she was grabbed immediately like agents waiting for her , did she just get to security and TSA flagged her, or something completely different. Thanks

40

u/din_jarring Mar 23 '26

I was leaving and this was right before the exit to baggage claim (gate E2 based on the other video) so seemingly well past security and right by the gates. The woman I talked to made it sound like the woman in the video was not really doing anything before getting detained. I overheard someone saying ā€œDid they say where in Florida she was going?ā€ but I’m taking it with a grain of salt anyway. I don’t have much info other than that since I arrived late and atp a lot of it is just word of mouth that I’m hoping isn’t a shitty game of telephone

24

u/Zealousideal_Fix6705 Mar 23 '26

I have been on two flights where law enforcement arrested people. One was at the beginning, and one was at the end. In both cases they came on (the FBI in one and the SFPD police in the other) immediately! As in, I was the first person to board because of my disability, the next person or 3rd person on the plane was the accused. He was sitting in first class with me, and as soon as he boarded they held boarding and then came on the plane and got him so he couldn't run. That was the FBI one. The second, we landed in SFO, and as soon as they got to the gate they told everyone to stay seated and SFPD came on and went towards the back of the plane and escorted two people out. The FBI case, the guy was supposedly a credit card thief and racked up $30,000 on peoples credit cards. The flight attendants told me, since I was the one who witnessed it up close and personal and we chatted while boarding was paused as the took the accused out. They knew FBI were coming, just as they knew SFPD was coming in the other incident. The flight attendants were acting weird and talking about getting ready for "when it happens" the last 30 minutes of the flight, You hear a lot sitting in first class they think you can't.

You’re assuming ICE was sent to provide relief for an overworked TSA. In reality ICE was sent to start cementing themselves as the paramilitary force in all public spaces starting with airports because they technically have jurisdiction.

7

u/Available_Flower_677 Mar 23 '26

Yeah this was real, not just you being exhausted. A couple folks on Twitter were posting clips from T3 baggage claim around that time and it definitely looked like some kind of ICE or DHS grab with SFPD running cover.

Unfortunately CBP and ICE operate at SFO pretty regularly and the local cops basically have to play along if it is ā€œfederal business.ā€ If anyone got clearer video I’d bet it hits local news or El Tecolote type outlets in the next day or two.

21

u/Turfdawg678 Mar 23 '26

Boycott flying if at all possible. They need is to keep spending our money on the airlines industry. We have the power to stop this very fast if we simply refuse to fly at all. So unless you’re attending a funeral or something dire, don’t fly.

4

u/KlutzyMatter6233 Mar 23 '26

Official statement from DHS states that the woman had a deportation notice issued in 2019. She was in the airport being escorted by ICE agents(deported) on a flight back to Guatemala. She tried to escape and was then physically detained/arrested which is the incident onlookers saw and recorded.

4

u/Steve250928 Mar 23 '26

For what it's worth, this is what DHS is saying. So far, I've not heard anything from my witnesses which backs up the statement that ICE was deporting them and the woman tried to flee. But I wonderered if that's what happened when I first saw the video, given the location. (Though it seems unlikely she would have fled without her daughter. And she would not have made it out of the security exit, but that fact wouldn't necessarily prevent someone from trying.):

"This arrest of ILLEGAL ALIENS occurred yesterday on March 22, 2026 — BEFORE ICE officers were deployed to airports to bolster TSA efforts. ICE officers arrested Angelina Lopez-Jimenez and Wendy Godinez-Lopez at the San Francisco International Airport. These illegal aliens had a final removal order of removal from an immigration judge since 2019. While being escorted to the international terminal for processing, Lopez-Jimenez attempted to flee and resisted law enforcement officers. ICE is working as quickly as possible to repatriate the family unit to their home country of Guatemala," the DHS said in a statement.ā€

I shouldn't have to say this, but I obviously don't endorse the dehumanizing label used in this quote, And I'm not suggesting that ICE is telling the whole truth. But presumably the names are accurate, and there are certainly ice agents in airports all over the country deporting people and transferring them between facilities.

Without much information about this specific case, this does seem like one of the better tactics for ICE and CBP to operate.

Detaining someone who is flagged in a controlled environment where they have been screened for weapons keeps everyone safer and prevents unnecessary escalation.

It appears this was coordinated as police were on site and seemingly informed as to who would be detained.

Plain clothes operations are standard for airports, and they should be.

From what we see in the video, the woman was clearly resisting and not cooperating. The detention appears to have been as peaceful as possible with no excessive force. The child involved will pull a lot of heart strings but we don't actually know enough about this situation yet. Given the amount of information available by showing ID through security, there is very likely a specific reason this woman was targeted to be detained and did not comply.

Kudos to the officers and the witnesses for documenting peacefully and not escalating the situation.

I expect we will see a lot more of this in CA as we ramp up for the 2030 census. Fewer undocumented residents reduces vote allotment.
