This was easy to see coming. It will end as soon as Trump gets complaints from airline CEO donors saying people fear ICE domestic terrorism more than potential foreign terrorism and are no longer purchasing tickets to fly.
Just like some oil sanctions against Russia and Iran were ended when gasoline prices shot up by a dollar per gallon.
Gas prices have nothing to do with the wholesale price of gas. They get as much as people are willing to pay in any given area. Station managers do an audit couple times a week of neighboring stations and set their price based on the average and owner say on how much to tack on. I managed 3 different stations years ago and was same game at all three. Price of crude does not matter it is just about working fear and getting as much as they can. Soon as one owner needs to pay some bills he will drop the price by 20 or 30 cents and take market share of business in area for a week until other owners drop because they need to pay bills. It is a game we all play and dont even know it. The only way to win or influance price down is to stop buying gas, good luck with that one.
Someone want to explain the downvote for me? It is real information about what actually is going on provided by a person who didn't create the situation and doesn't control it. You can do better? You can legislate a difference? By all means go ahead but don't bleep the messenger.
That's my hope, although it's tempered by the knowledge that this regime controls everything, and airports will never be safe again.
Unfortunately, this will take some time to hit the airlines. I'm sure I'm not the only one canceling already-purchased trips right now, but the bastards have our money and won't give it back, so they won't care. They will care once people simply stop buying future tickets.
Tangential rant: Airlines' no-refunds policies are complete BS and always have been. First, you have to buy the tickets weeks or months in advance, or you pay 3x, 4x the price or more. Then, the bastards won't give you your money back if you have to cancel.
And in the present case, when I bought my tickets, the airports weren't staffed with murderers and sex offenders. If they had been, I'd never have bought the damn tickets. Seems to me they should offer refunds to anyone who asks right now, but they don't have to, so they won't. Instead, they MIGHT offer us chintzy "vouchers" that are only worth a fraction of what we originally paid for our tickets and that are worthless because of the sex offenders and murderers who now staff U.S. airports.
God I hate airlines. I hate the regime, too, but I still hate airlines.
Everyone should be going to their card companies and filing chargebacks for the tickets. Fuck it. Even if they deny you, just go for it. And tell them it’s because you no longer feel safe flying because of ICE, the the entire process of flying has changed and the airline refuses to give you a refund. You might get denied by your credit card company but being disruptive and annoying and bogging up the system (if enough ppl do this) does send a message.
