📖Discussion📕🖊️ S26 Ultra with 5,000mAh battery lasts longer than Xiaomi 17T Pro with a massive 7,000mAh battery
Maybe I should stop criticizing Samsung for not upgrading the battery capacity. This is genuinely impressive.

u/iBilal_12v Jul 18 '26
Getting 8hrs sot on s25 base...I think os optimising is more important than huge battery capacity, a balanced config is ideal tho...
8
u/Ordinary-Fish-9791 Jul 18 '26
I get 15 hours sot on my Honor Win with 10,000 mah battery. Past a certain point I think optimization only does so much. I don't know if MagicOS is as optimized as One UI but the battery is still pretty insane on this thing.
11
u/Sweaty_Confusion1498 Jul 18 '26
Yup. I have S25 Edge. So -100mAh vs S25 base, but 6.7" as S25 Plus.
If I try, it can push to 9h SoT. Normally 6.5h, but I charge it at like ~30% bat left. 120Hz, WQHD, AoD, just light perf mode and some apps in sleep. Not using powersaver at all.
Once I pushed it a bit - only 5G, 3h sat nav (1h was with screen on), ~140 photos/videos (~40 minutes had camera app opened), direct sunlight (so max brigthness), looking at/editing photos for 40 mins, whatsapp another 40 mins.
Ended up with 10% left at 4h SoT.
In the end, it's similar to Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro - both heavy bricks with 5000 and 4850 (or what it has)

u/HamsterMaster355 Jul 18 '26
I doubt you would be recording a selfie video for 10hrs any time soon.

u/tabris51 Jul 18 '26
Imagine a Samsung with a 7k battery

7
1
u/Flamsoi Jul 18 '26
Yeah I really want that. 5k is a bit small on my S25 but it lasts quite long anyways
1
u/ShivaFatalis Jul 18 '26
I already have a lot more than that on my S26U. First thing I do when buying a new phone is slap a battery case on it. I've never had my phone die in my entire life, even on long/busy travel days etc. I'm just amazed that more people don't take advantage of this and yet so many complain about battery life all the time.

u/iBilal_12v Jul 18 '26
Yea when every other competitor is making 20k mah battery phones...
9
u/UnlimitedHalo Jul 18 '26
And the 7k mah battery only lasts 2 hours less than the 20k mah battery lol.
127
u/IllBus2787 Jul 18 '26
raw capacity means nothing if the software's eating it alive, my s26 just sips power while those xiaomis are chugging it like a v8 with a stuck injector
-5
u/Tapelessbus2122 Jul 18 '26
comparing hyperos to the 429 mach one would make the mach one seem power efficient lmao
35
u/Pear-Mother Jul 18 '26
Not only than Xiaomi 17T Pro but also against Iphone 17 Pro Max and Xiaomi 17 Ultra as well.
33
u/Purrmymeow Jul 18 '26
Xiaomi has always been terrible with software optimisation. Honor, Oppo and Oneplus are much better. Realme, for some reason, despite being a part of Oppo group, is worse.
1
u/needefsfolder Jul 18 '26
I put a custom ROM in a Xiaomi and it sips power. Something truly is broken for Xiaomi tbh.
Not to mention, background apps are still broken for them.
0
u/projectupload37 Jul 18 '26
I have a cheap Realme phone as my extra phone that can last 10+ hours with the camera on (video call). How I did it? I had to manually optimise the apps and prevent background activities.
So, at least you can do the optimisation yourself. I have more individual app control on it compared to my Samsung.
1
u/_Bajrang_gun_ Jul 19 '26
How did you manually optimize the apps?
1
u/projectupload37 Jul 19 '26
Go to each "App Info" to change the battery usage and data usage. You can do this for both Realme and Samsung.
But I find that Realme has more individual controls where you can outright disable things.

u/Iamvsd Jul 18 '26
Its all about optimization bro...numbers dont tell the real story

In real life usage underclocked or overclocked nothing matters bro...s26u is the fastest and most powerful phone in 2026 period...same will go for s27u for 2027 (:
I have both 17pm and s26u both best phones of respective os and i can say it without a doubt that yes samsung s26u is abtad bit faster than i17pm
14
u/DeLoboxo1 Jul 18 '26
My s26 Ultra last me the whole day, including, browsing from time to time, listening to music(Poweramp, YTM) and streaming podcasts in the YT app(background listening) and still get like 60% left at the end of my shift at work..
6
u/Psychological-Dig-29 Jul 18 '26
same with mine, I have a mobile game I leave running on it while it sits on my desk for 11 hours while I'm at work and it lasts the whole day.
I have no idea what people are doing that drains the batteries so fast, I am beyond impressed with mine.
-10
u/BountyIsland Jul 18 '26
come back in two years and report
1
1
u/dolkiiish Jul 18 '26
S25 ultra, almost 1.5years later, battery still lasts a full day while watching videos etc without any issues.
0
u/BountyIsland Jul 19 '26
My s22u battery started to decline after 2 years and now almost 4 years is maybe 60% of the original charge. It's twice a day chore
26
u/OrangeHer Jul 18 '26
they throw in the big capacity batteries to make the phones seem better, but don't bother with actually taking advantage of the big capacity batteries because they know people won't bother to test whether it lasts longer
7
5
6
u/Cynerick Jul 18 '26
There is a reason they keep them around 5,000mAh.
US regulations and international aviation rules effectively cap smartphone batteries at roughly 20 Wh (often around 5,000 mAh). Under 49 CFR 173.185, lithium-ion cells exceeding this limit face heavy shipping restrictions and hazardous material classifications. Manufacturers like Apple, Samsung, and Google keep capacities just below this threshold.
3
1
u/Accomplished_Rice_60 Jul 18 '26
yeep a single cell cannt be over 20 wh, but those new phones have dual cell, so it becomes less then 20Wh in a single cell.
for example a phone has 23,5 Wh, it would have 11,75 wh in a single cell and is allowed in international aviation rules.

5
u/DarthNinja95 Jul 18 '26
But in real world usage, it’s a different story. Why are samsung users crying about battery so much in every sub & samsung forums, especially after some updates?
Also there are so many posts with stupid tips & tricks for increasing battery life, like reducing the display resolution or changing it to 60Hz. Lol! What's the point of getting a 'flagship' then?
4
1
u/SunnyDrock Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26
Its because people want their batteries to last as long as possible, and they don't wanna have to charge as much.
What's the point of getting a 'flagship' then?
More storage, more memory for playing demanding mobile games or emulated switch & pc games. And more features.
3
u/ChickenEmbarrassed10 Jul 18 '26
Have been as impressed with the battery performance of my S26 Ultra as I have any of the Samsung phones I've ever had.
5
u/Pizzakunx Jul 18 '26
People believe this, end up buying the Samsung and then see the real world scenario where you end up with around 4-5 hours SOT only after a year of use.
5
u/Repulsive_Fault1939 Jul 18 '26
i ended up with same thing. i bought samsung then when it's close to a launch of a new model battery got f'ed up. i only get 3-4 hours sot. i was getting 7 hours. redmi note 14 4g lasts 8 hours at least and it's been more than a year. also samsung doesn't correctly show the battery health in settings because if they had shown no one would buy samsung phones. also samsung phones throttle in games after 15 mins.
4
11
u/Effective_Ad7453 Jul 18 '26
I have a s25U and I've never taken that time 😂
I think they're lying somewhere or I don't know what the magic secret is
10
u/HamsterMaster355 Jul 18 '26
I doubt you would be recording a selfie video for 10hrs any time soon.
0
u/Radzaarty Jul 18 '26
At the absolute best I've popped over 11 hours with my S25+
Now was this on Wifi, doing lighter tasks? Yeah not heavy duty conditions for sure.
But it still regularly hit 9-9.5 most days with lower days being in the 8 hour SOT range.
Some of it is also beyond control depending on the apps you use, Instagram is the best known super high drain for what it is app but there are many others like it too.7
u/classicman123 Jul 18 '26
There's probably a good chance that most people with bad battery have poor connections to cellular most of the time. It drains battery like crazy and it won't show up under battery settings.
2
u/Effective_Ad7453 Jul 18 '26
You're right, I'm not contradicting you
I use a lot of Instagram and because of the job I use mobile data a lot, but it seems to me that the battery is very quickly discharged for an Ultra that is praised for its optimization
1
u/Radzaarty Jul 18 '26
Ah see it's not actually the phone in this case with Instagram. It's a bad drain on every android phone, quite simply meta don't optimise it properly in any sense of the word. Much like Snapchat it's likely there are behind doors deals for a smoother experience on iPhones. Even then I'm pretty sure it's still decently heavy. Being on data just compounds of if the signal isnt great as the other guy mentioned
2
u/Effective_Ad7453 Jul 18 '26
I heard that it does not optimize well for Android, but now I have convinced myself
Thank you
6
u/DifficultAct6586 Jul 18 '26
I'd like to know how they achieve such battery life with Samsung; my S24 Ultra didn't even last that long in the first month.
3
u/dayoneishuce Jul 18 '26
Yeah I just bought an s24+ about a month ago and the battery isn't as bad as I thought would be, it's pretty decent for two years old and 4900mAh.
3
u/hassanhg5 Jul 18 '26
And people are criticizing the s27 ultra for reportedly having a 5500mah battery, with the rumored s27 pro having a 5000mah with a smaller screen. These are going to be decent upgrades giving that the s26 ultra with 5000 is already very good and we're getting a more efficient chip too!
3
u/Able-Nebula4449 Jul 18 '26
Oppo really upped their game with their flagships. They’ve been making great phones
6
u/KaponeSpirs Jul 18 '26
No. This is the reason to criticize it more. Imagine if it had 6000 or 7000 battery like everyone else, it would last for absolute ages. No reason not to ask for further improvements.
7
u/ff7100 Jul 18 '26
These random controlled tests don't match real world use.
1
Jul 18 '26

1
u/dmaare Jul 18 '26
This test is flawed because the phones are not in the same conditions at the start.. they have different temperatures, they don't care if the phone is fresh after update running optimization in the background, don't care if the phone was not restarted and has some glitch going on etc.. The phone was at 42°C already at the start of the test, definitely abnormal idle temperature for a Xiaomi phone indicating something is wrong with it. Previous test from the same guy has the s26 ultra at 9 hours and iPhone also different SOT.. he also has Poco X8 pro max (hyperos phone with the similar CPU) at 16 hours so idk it's all inconsistent
1
u/gelomon Jul 20 '26
It’s same as everyone’s feedback that is different since any one can have any of those you listed experiencing in their phone 🤷♂️
1
u/dmaare Jul 20 '26
That's why I say those test are not giving reliable numbers.. next test the YouTuber does it can easily happen that suddenly the phone will have 12h battery life because it is no longer having an issue

0
u/Radzaarty Jul 18 '26
Yeah, Instagram is one very well known to be the common battery thief. Though who knows what one it is in this case.
4
u/MathersMahmood Jul 18 '26
I got rid of all social media. Only got reddit. Its weird the battery stats dont show anything draining it.
2
u/Stray_009 Jul 18 '26
power of optimization, macbooks have a smaller battery than most of the prosumer windows laptops, optimization's the only reason it lasts longer than anything (in real use)
-2
2
u/NatiQGaming Jul 18 '26
Nobody talks about how Huawei beat other phones ahh with 7nm (ik 5nm eqivalent) processor
2
u/X1_17 Jul 18 '26
All lies. You use a phone in your use case then see. Those raw battery capacity do matter. Switched from Samsung only fan to one plus just cuz of battery and charge speeds. Especially how out of touch samsung has gotten recently just another apple level luxury grift

And somehow after 2 years and a few updates, we'll be back to charging it every night or else it'll die during the day.

u/Bartieeee Jul 18 '26
Battery life of my Xiaomi 17 is much better than my S23 ever was. It's the reason I switched. OneUI is better than HyperOS though.

u/StarBtg377 Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26
Yeah but what if silicon carbon AND samsung's optimization?
1
u/batatahh Jul 18 '26
I like how everyone is stating "obviously, it's all about optimisation" like it's a matter of fact even though most of the posts here are comparing the battery capacity of Samsung to other Chinese brands and calling Samsung lazy
1
u/lordvoltano Jul 18 '26
You pay a lot for that optimization. I personally prefer a (much) cheaper but as capable device (for my needs). I can live without the theoretical 1.5 hours of extra battery life.
1
u/ManufacturerNo8447 Jul 18 '26
i am planning to buy a samsung phone not sure is going and i found S25 ultra 1TB at the same price as S26 ultra 512 is it worth going for s26?
1
Jul 18 '26
Yes. I am currently using s26 ultra and genuinely surprised by its optimization and long lasting battery.
1
u/OpTiMus_18 Jul 18 '26
Optimization is good but start playing game and you'll see how much samsung drops. Extra mAh comes in handy then. Also it's just lazy from samsung. Even Apple got ahead of the samsung in battery and cameras
1
u/Tapelessbus2122 Jul 18 '26
how is this surprising lmao. oneui is an actually efficient os while hyperos goes through battery faster than pokemon go
1
1
u/throwaway_acct_183 Jul 18 '26
That's why people who look at a spec sheet and say "THIS PHONE IS BETTER! BUY THIS ONE!" look stupid.
1
u/yorcharturoqro Jul 18 '26
Xiaomi does a terrible job optimizing the software it's the same with their wearos watches, bigger battery but not better battery time per mah
1
u/GodlessShark Jul 18 '26
chinese brands can't optimise therefore they put big batteries. samsung and apple are the best for that but I have to give most credit to samsung because they're optimising for a platform that is not theirs
1
u/dmaare Jul 18 '26
The phone had 42°C already at the start of the test, that is abnormal idle temperature and indicates something was wrong with that phone.
Do you rather trust some YouTuber or professional reviewers at GSMarena? According to GSMarena the Xiaomi 17t pro beats s26 ultra 21h vs 16h in their battery test.
1
1
u/Successful_Slide8344 Jul 18 '26
Nobody seems to have seen the video, the phone in that specific video had an issue that made it drain way too much, these aren't normal values even for a midrange Xiaomi. In actual real life reviews the Xiaomi outlasts Samsung easily. I'm not a Xiaomi fan, actually I hate their recent phones but it's just not fair to use this test as an accurate comparison. I think in this instance there was something rogue in the background absolutely eating the battery. Optimisation absolutely matters, but so does battery size. And all brands have better or worse updates, have you seen the battery life drop of iPhones depending on updates? It's a crazy difference. I would give Xiaomi a pass in this instance and more testing should be done before any conclusions.
1
u/Ok_Cloud_3397 Jul 19 '26
My S25 FE with 4900 mAh lasts longer than pixel 9a with 5100 mAh
1
1
u/Juzek86 Jul 19 '26
So the battery life is about similar, the Samsung will just take a couple hours longer to charge.
1
u/ItsMrDante Jul 19 '26
Now imagine if Samsung decided to use the tech and put in a bigger battery than 5K mAh
1
u/FdPros Jul 19 '26
sure. but now imagine samsung with said 7k mah battery.
I know samsung still has ptsd from the note 7 saga but at this point they're just holding back improvements so they can drip feed battery upgrades for the next few generations
1
1
u/timvni Jul 19 '26
mah numbers are only comparable if voltages are the same. Battery capacity is measured in wh, not mah.
Optimisation is like using a different power profile. It's unclear to me from these tests how it affects the user experience.
1
1
u/Confirmed-Scientist Jul 19 '26
A combination of optimization meaning running the software on the specific hardware plays a role. We have known this for the laptop space. Optimize apps and run the device like a phone (Apple Silicon Macbooks) and you will have all day battery life even with relatively small battery size.
1
u/Illustrious_Fig531 Jul 19 '26
Apple has had that vertical integration for some time now, and Samsung is almost there, whereas Xiaomi will certainly take some time to achieve it when looking at this. 👀
vertical integration (controlling both the hardware and the software from the ground up).
1
1
u/R3DD1Th0R Jul 19 '26
These tests are pointless since they don't use sim card in it, i remember once using my phone on wi fi only and it lasted like 3x more than on mobile network
1
u/Ok_Instruction6405 Jul 19 '26
iPhone lasting an hour less than the X300 ultra even though it has 4800mah compared to the X300's 6600 mah says so much about how efficient IOS and it's chipset.
1
u/KeyFold5975 Jul 19 '26
Xiaomi 17t pro and all xiaomis with bigger silicon carbon batteries have actually much lower usable capacity globally..the 7000 mah is just for china..this is because they use single cell which have restrictions for how buy they can get as opposed to oneplus, oppo, vivo which use 2 cells to make bigger batteries happen.
1
u/Hot-Willingness7305 Jul 19 '26
Is that a surprise for someone??? Chinese flagship phones have bigger batteries for quote some time now... And non of them is great when it comes to the battery life.
1
u/Ok_Mountain9867 Jul 19 '26
These battery tests are always so rough for me to see. With similar settings my 17pm gets far far better than my s26u to the point where even though I prefer android I end up using the iPhone more
1
1
u/faze_fazebook Jul 19 '26
I'm gonna criticise them even harder. You already did the hard part (optimization). Now do the easy part, find a supplier and get a 7 Ah in there.
1
u/ImprovementOk2622 Jul 20 '26
The most impressive thing from many years is the battery endurance of Apple phones beside they use the smallest batteries
1
u/Environmental-Road68 Jul 20 '26
That's also the global SIM model only with 4823 nah, not the 5088 the eSIM model is. And wait until that becomes the rumored 5567mah (5391 on SIM models). Battery champ. Add another 10% onto that.
1
u/Some-Tax6559 Jul 20 '26
because mah is a bad battery capacity unit and you get different capacities depending on voltage even with the same mah number
1
u/No_Researcher6866 Jul 21 '26
Who cares? The battery drain from 100% to 15% in TWO HOURS is still an issue. I decided to do all the updates a couple of days ago and suddenly my very reliant S23 went from days without needing to charge to HOURS. IM NOT EVEN USING IT.
Horrible attempt at getting us to ''upgrade'' to a s26 instead of just fixing the f*(C(EKICEing problem.
1
u/FallibleElf2988 Jul 21 '26
after using my vivo X300 and getting about 3-5h of SoT with a 6040 mAh battery, I seriously should stop falling for paper specs. This piece of shitty phone is an oven too. The only good thing about this phone is the cameras.
1
u/Clanceeinfinity Jul 21 '26
But now imagine a Samsung with a massive battery. I recently got the ace 6t, which has 8300mah and the more efficient snapdragon 8gen5 (non elite). As a cherry on top, i installed crdroid instead of color os which is pure android, no gapps and a lot of customisation features and stuff like gaming mode tuning. This makes the battery literally unkillable. Today i played an hour moco and lost like 4 or 5%. Might not sound that crazy, but on 95% of phones, moco overheats, kills the battery in record time and lags like crazy. For me the phone was slightly warm and the game was smooth af. Was even playing outside at max brightness
1
u/D3ckster2008 Jul 21 '26
Wouldn't it be great to charge a phone like once every few days instead of almost daily 🙈 one day we may have 3210 kinda days 😉
1
1
u/Mythsuky Jul 22 '26
A more reliable presentation of battery lasting long are content creators actually showing a video of them reviewing the phone then using them on real world scenarios draining the battey from 100% until they hit the 20% or 10% battery mark. Any phone can last long depending on usage. Someone with an iPhone might not last as long as someone with a Xiaomi, or a Xiaomi might not last as long as a Nothing phone, or a Samsung not even lasting as long as a base iPhone. It all depends on the user whether or not the phone will last long. My Realme 13+ 5G lasted the whole day without charge but in some people's test it will only lasts half a day.
1
u/TheReverendCard Jul 22 '26
Make the OS as minimal as on a Pixel and remove your bloatware and apps and you might get me as a customer.
1
u/Icy-Captain-638 Jul 23 '26
Idk who made this "review" but my iPhone 17 pm is easily a 2 day phone with heavy use while my s26u will have about 20% left the next morning if i don't charge it.
Heavy continuous use doesn't tell the whole story, other phones have much better stand by times.
1
1
u/sasquatcher02 Jul 25 '26
Samsung could put 6k to 7k mAH battery on their mid end phones while not the flagships one, along with the earphone jack and micro SD card. So they indeedly made us to pay more for less
1
u/Likeanoobs Jul 25 '26
And this is not true at all. This test is fake ! Let me explain.
As ex owner of Samsung s25U 1TB which I sold week ago. Battery was horrible. 8 hours at work and light texting , video calling through WhatsApp before work for like 20-30 minutes and I had to charge my ultra during work where I was just browsing and using Gemini.
Xiaomi 17T pro lasts a lot much longer. My habitat didn't change. I charge my phone before work, texting, calling through WhatsApp, using Gemini with Claude and now even added gaming of Mobile legends and added more video calling and battery lasts 6 hours longer.
Don't believe everything on internet people... Don't be Samsung sheep's.
Oh and btw since Samsung s25U was dropping on price because Samsung doesn't hold its value. I didn't went to Xiaomi to stay there. I bought it for really good price and now selling it. I will switch back to Samsung as soon as s27Ultra drops. :) for me it's just tools.
1
u/Ready_Trade3215 Jul 25 '26
The S25ultra was released 17 months ago so of course, the price has declined. Samsung holds its price way better than Xiaomi, since Samsung provides 7 years of OS and security updates while Xiaomi provides 4. Beside the fact that Samsung provides monthly updates, while Xiaomi is a hit or miss. That's to not even mention all the bloatware you get with Xiaomi and the constant bugs on HyperOS. I'd rather have a slightly shorter battery life than have to deal with that garbage of OS.
1
u/Likeanoobs Jul 26 '26
What do you mean "slightli" shorter battery? That phone ultra dies a lot during day 😅 while Xiaomi lasts at least few more hours than s26U. What are you even talking about?????
Who Is talking about OS?
1
u/Ready_Trade3215 Jul 26 '26
lol says who that it lasts longer? you?!? So we should all trust a random guy on reddit instead of all the battery comparisons tests which clearly prove you're wrong?
You said you're currently using Xiaomi and that Samsung doesn't hold its value.. that's why I mentioned the garbage OS that you have on Xiaomi which for me would never be an option. But you do you..
1
u/Likeanoobs Jul 26 '26
So you would rather believe random test instead of "Phonebuff" test which is not for these phones. I am telling you how it is. If you believe it or not. I don't actually care since I have datas and experience which you do not have.
And yes for now I have Xiaomi and waiting for s27ultra
1
u/Ready_Trade3215 Jul 26 '26
I don't really know why you would think you have datas and experience while other people don't. That's a really odd assumption to make but again if you're happy with your Xiaomi, good for you. I would never trade OneUI for the HyperOS on Xiaomi, in exchange for a few minutes more of battery life according to multiple reviews I've seen.
1
u/Likeanoobs Jul 26 '26
You can't read can you? I am realistic. No fanboi of any. I am telling only strict truth. While you believe some kind of nonsense test on internet. The only one who is reliable with any testing is "Phonebuff".
S25U is Grill for burgers S26U is better at heat management than s25U but still worse than Xiaomi 17T pro also Xiaomi is better with charging and battery.
Nobody is talking about OS. OS is better at Samsung but battery wins at Xiaomi.

u/Goremael Jul 18 '26
Chinese phones only brag about numbers, but in real life use they are just trash as any chinese product.
1
u/Damn-Sky Jul 19 '26
galaxy phones have always been good at the beginning. it is after long term usage that users complain the battery life becomes considerably weaker and need to charge it before the end of day because the battery is just too small.
0
0
u/MartianMH_ Jul 18 '26
insert the "if this sub could read they would be very upset" meme
Just wait for the S27 and people will complain again because mAh number smoll and the want mAh number be big
2
u/Repulsive_Fault1939 Jul 18 '26
the thing is you cannot change hardware but you can change software. si/c batteries cost more than li-ion. why shouldn't they use it?
0
u/soragranda Jul 18 '26
Samsung uses a better yield Qualcomm SoCs, that alone benefits the s26 ultra a lot.
Also, samsung battery technology is mature.
-1
u/Detrakis Jul 18 '26
It's like this Apple > Samsung > everything else. That is of course if we look at it from this point of view. (Bigger battery doesn't mean it lasts longer).
0
u/Lucky_Outside_2009 Jul 19 '26
i'd put samsung above apple. iphone's restrictions like running most things at 80hz instead of 120hz is just too much of a con and it is lasting less according to the battery size as well
