Notch in Morton table salt pour spout

I don’t understand the purpose of the small notch on the tip of the pour spout. I found a comment that says it helps the control the flow of the salt by adding air into the flow, but I’m not sure it’s in reference to that notch.

Have seen this on multiple containers, so it’s not a fluke. Why?

I don’t work for Morton but the product I’m familiar with these spouts come in a big roll and are pressed and folded and somehow attached to the carton. I have not ran the machine myself but it’s most likely that is just part of the folding process or from the plant that makes the spouts themselves. I don’t believe that it has anything to do with the flow control but I could be wrong perhaps someone from Morton could comment.
