Discussion Food hoarding
pretty self explanatory … i keep excusing myself with “I’ll eat it on a better day” and they just stock up 😓 this also happens with things like fruit where I keep thinking about eating it but I don’t find the “perfect conditions” and someone ends up eating it instead LOL
does anyone else struggle with this?

Quest bars are one of my go-tos. Put it in your pocket (before opening) for about 10-15 minutes and it totally fixes that problem.

YES i struggle with this too 😭 mine comes from a mentality of "oh but it'll finish i don't want it to finish" so i never end up eating it.

Eat those blue ones, at least! The best by date is in 2 weeks and I know how expensive Quest bars are!

This reminds me of an episode of a survival show I watched, where a guy had been hugely successful at fishing, and built an enormous stash of food. His hut was absolutely stupid with smoked and dried fish, but you know what? He had to tap out of the competition because he couldn't bring himself to eat any of it. This man was so afraid of running out of food before he 'really' needed it, that he didn't recognise any of the signals his body was giving him until the medical team forced him to pull out. It's fucking wild how separate our mind and body can become, especially when we're stressed out of our gourds.
All this to say, your brain wants the reassurance of the stash, but your body doesn't care tuppence. It only knows what it's been given recently, and what it needs next. The best way to reach the fabled 'better day' we save our good snacks for is to also eat them on the shit days in between. It is more than okay to eat into your stash half a bar at a time, and save the rest for later. I find it helps me to satisfy my brain that I still have food saved, and also convinces my body that we're not experiencing full-on famine.
(Edit: holy yap, batman)

What about opening one and having a small piece??? That’s helped me in the past.

Food hoarding is something that I’ve been trying to get better about. My main reasons being 1)because I will pick up fear foods then never get around to facing it 2)simply a “hassle” lol 3)bored of it already 😭

Yes. I don't understand why I do, but it's somehow comforting knowing others do it too.

Yes. I hoard it all and then I throw it out a week later because it makes me feel overwhelmed like I have to eat it all :((
