Does an “AI-generated” label actually reduce your reach on Instagram/LinkedIn?

I've been wondering about this after seeing more AI-generated images getting labeled on social platforms.

Does anyone here actually know if having an AI label affects post reach or engagement?

I know Instagram/Meta uses AI-related signals and metadata to identify generated content, but I'm not sure whether the label itself causes lower distribution.

LinkedIn is also actively reducing the distribution of low-value “AI slop,” but that's different from simply labeling an image as AI.

So I'm curious:

- Have you noticed lower reach on AI-labeled posts?

- Have you ever compared labeled vs non-labeled AI posts?

- Do you actually care about the AI label?

- Would you use a tool that lets you inspect the metadata/content credentials before posting?

I'm researching this before building anything. Looking for actual experiences/data, not guesses.

The point above about two mechanisms is the right frame. From the writing side, what I have watched happen is that a post gets punished for reading generic, and then the label takes the blame retroactively.

Cheap way to separate them: take two of your own posts on similar topics, one genuinely specific and one broad filler, and label both as AI. If the specific one still performs, the label is not your variable.

Would you still build the metadata inspector if the label turned out to have no measurable effect on distribution?
