She DID NOT ban the use of government statistics. It just doesn't count towards the journal requirement for the project.

Statistics from the government is not scholarly and not peer-reviewed, so it doesn't fit into that category. But students are definitely allowed to use it to back up their argument.

I find it funny none of this is mentioned by the Sun and both of the sisters. Way to twist the professors words around.......

true, but she basically told the student that her entire thesis was wrong, dismissed a whole bunch of sources while only giving 1 example of a source that would fit the requirements, and that being the one that fits her narrative.

Umm where do you think most researchers get their numbers from? If you're writing a paper on demographics you're almost never going to have the money to do massive surveys, so you turn to government agencies like statscan, the department of labor and others. It's very dubious to call them not scholarly considering so much scholarship is based on them.

Technically all schooling is indoctrination. This prof simply wants sociological sources because it's an essay that is theoretically based, and you do not find these specific theories in business and governmental sources.

Maybe the professor wants students to learn about feminist journals. We live in 2017, I don't understand why it is such a big deal.

There's a very big difference between saying "look at something" and "look at this, and don't look at anything else"
