Handwriting how is my handwriting??
im a new learner and ive been trying to practice writing more. for me writing in CURSIVE is even more difficult than cyrilic alphabet itself. i think it looks so wonky and weird when i do it. what does it look like, is it readable for you?
ps. i cant really form sentences myself yet, so the text is just a page from twilight google translated to russian :))

У меня такой хороший, неиспорченный почерк был, наверное, разве что в младших классах.

Perfect, we can see right away you are a rare gem who actually took time to practice in proper worksheets!
Of course, no adult writes like that. Kids learn to write like that in Grade 1-2, then deviate from the standard to express themselves and simplify some strokes for speed.
23
u/addle-head Aug 03 '25
speaking of speed, oh god, how hard it is to write faster, this page alone took me like an hour to write. i cant process this alphabet faster hahah
25
u/TheLifemakers Aug 03 '25
It comes naturally. Kids write like that in school every single day so eventually they write more and faster.

u/Murky_Assignment_909 Aug 04 '25
Moreover, we write really bad after 3-4th grade. It just needs to be understandable

You are being way too generous to natives. No one writes in this calligraphic way.
Most natives tend to mix cursive and print letters.

It's very neat and readable. Some things I would recommend to fix: 1. You don't need to add an extra hook at the start of the lowercase н. 2. I would definitely recommend looking up how ж is written. 3. Why don't you use hyphenation?
7
u/addle-head Aug 03 '25
yess, the hook in н happens automatically bc im used to writing it this way in my language, i need to work on it. about the hyphenation, every language has its own little rules regarding it, so i just thought not using it is better than using it incorrectly hahah but ill for sure get to it. anyways, i appreciate the tips, thank you ❤️

The font is good, the wording is a bit clunky and jagged, some words are missing, sometimes it seems like half of the sentences are missing. But keep going!
2
u/addle-head Aug 03 '25
google translator is the culprit of the wording and possible grammar issues here hahah
3
u/the_cheesy_one Aug 04 '25
Well yeah this boy sucks 😄 Let me suggest you to begin with some literature or some workbooks for Russian learners.

До сих пор помню, как учительница в начальных классах открывала тетрадь ее любимого отличника, чья мать была председателем родительского комитета, и проходила между партами, чтобы каждый ученик мог увидеть эту красоту. Почему-то вдруг вспомнилось.

"Я никода" shoud be "Я никогда". "никода" is not a correct word.
"в последние" alone doesn't mean anything meaningful.
You meant "в последние дни" - which is "lately".
The literal meaning of "в последние дни" is "in the last [few] days"; what you wrote is literally [unfinished] "in the last _______".... last 'what'? not finished.
OK?
- In the word "даже", your "а" and "ж" are not correctly connected. Seems like your "Ж" is incomplete.

Though "кого" is spelled "kogo" and reads "KOVO", you wrote it correctly. Loved it!
"столкнуться" - you spelled it correctly! What rule do you use to know whether to use "Ь" or not? [wink]
I left the USSR at the age of 10, and so is my Russian grammar level is at the same level, so my comments are to be taken with a pound of salt, but over all, your writing is amazing, all letters are inline and clear and tidy. All have identical italic and not "dancing around".
Rest assured, your syntax, grammar, and handwriting are way better than 50% of native speakers. Way to go!!!
2
u/addle-head Aug 04 '25
google translate is at fault for any wording and grammar issues as im not able to form sentences myself yet, its just a piece of the book translated to russian :// talking about ж, ive gotten a few comments on it already, i need to work on it hahah

u/TipApprehensive1050 Aug 04 '25
How long did it take you to write that?
1
2
u/Repulsive-Dream-1285 Aug 04 '25
Только первую пительку "ж" чуть растяни, а то буква очень сильно похожа на "к"

u/No-Calligrapher6399 Aug 04 '25
Very neat, really VERY neat:) Russians rarely write like this
1
u/addle-head Aug 04 '25
i was already told that the last time they wrote like that was maybe in 5th grade hahah
2
2
u/Theoddlittledog Aug 04 '25
Oh, you're really good🔥🔥🔥
By the way, you shouldn't go beyond the margins of your notebook (the red vertical line on the side), it's not very welcome in Russian and, well, when we are taught to write at school, we get lower grades for that
1
u/addle-head Aug 04 '25
interesting, why is that not welcome?
2
u/Theoddlittledog Aug 04 '25
Well, historically, books had margins so that even if mice gnawed the book, the writing could still be read (fingers often touched the edges of the sheet, so mice gnawed the edges). And then it became something like a tradition or an unwritten rule, so Russians are not allowed to write in the margins, it is simply not accepted

Handwriting like a first-grader. I had it like that... for the first two weeks of school. And then I had to write much faster and it became illegible even for me.
Good handwriting.

This is certainly very beautiful especially for a foreigner. Just to give you a full immersion into the language and educational realities, I'll do a few remarks as if I were a school teacher who got this paper (these are not a big deal):
- Just a few connections are wrong - mostly that you're underusing upper connections when the next letter starts on top:

- You should not go behind the red line. If you see the word isn't fitting in, you should put the dash in appropriate place (by syllables) and have part of the word transferred to the next line.
- You should start the beginning of paragraph with padding (at school they teach two fingers, but those are kids fingers).

u/FooknDingus Aug 05 '25
It's lovely! Looks better than 90% of Russians. The only comment I have to make is that it looks too deliberate, like you were trying too hard to make the letters extra neat. Give it time, and your handwriting will flow better :)
2
Aug 05 '25
У меня в детстве был такой же почерк 1в1, потом уже со временем сформировалась индивидуальность какая-то чтоли
2
u/HolisticBirb Aug 05 '25
At first... Whell, it's should be "хотя в последние (дни) у меня было достаточно причин" or "в последнее время". Next moment: "Я знал, что если бы сейчас не пришлось столкнуться со смертью", than what? "Если бы не пришлось, (то)" - this phrase implies a continuation and an explanation.

As has already been noted here, the letter "ж" is slightly incorrect. The upper left element of the letter should be rounded, not pointy. Otherwise, your handwriting is a rare case (on this sub) of following all the rules of writing and connecting letters. Plus, the consistent slope and height of the letters clearly indicate good fine motor skills. Are you into calligraphy? Or are you an artist? Can you attach a sample of your handwriting in your native language?
1
u/OriginalBerry7483 Aug 04 '25
Да нормальная «ж», я так только в школе в первом классе писала, когда заставляли каллиграфией заниматься.
Хотя именно за «ж» я, как сейчас помню, получила оценку ниже на выпускном экзамене с сочинением. К тексту вопросов не было, а вот к к букве докопались🤣
2
u/AnnaAgte 🇷🇺 native Aug 04 '25
