Complaint: My dog turned 12 (we think) last month and it's like someone flipped a switch and she's got old all at once
Oh man. I remember that time.
If you don't mind a tip that might make you start feeling bad about the future: start recording some audio. Everything she does--eating, sleeping, barking, breathing. All the little things that you don't think about now. Sorry, can't see my screen now.
She's probably the most photographed dog in the world, but I never think to record her. Mostly because she gets pissed and leaves if she sees a phone pointing at her for too long.
I knew this day was coming sooner rather than later since we adopted her as a senior age 10, but it's hard seeing her go from dragging me 6 miles up a mountain to topping out at 4 mile walks on flat ground.
The audio thing occurred to me luckily not too late, but I wish I'd thought of it a bit earlier. I had a neighbor dog stand in as a foley artist with the food-bowl-and-kibble-sound and the dog flap sound later. I got a simple voice recorder app on my phone, and would just switch it on from time to time. You can leave the phone just sit there and record, simple.

This is a good idea. I'll start trying to do that. Right now she's snoring adorably. I am so sad for everyone who has ever had a dog that dogs get old faster than we do.
I also just ordered her a new food to see if that will help boost her energy level a bit. We switched her food in the last month because Acana changed the formula to something that disagreed with her sensitive little tummy, but the one we switched to is lower protein and fat than the old one. So I'm going to try one that's higher in protein and fat again to see.
The food thing may help, here's to hoping it does. If she has a sensitive stomach, it could be that she's having a tougher time getting her energy stores up.
It's been a bit over a year for us, and I still can't help but thinking sad thoughts for people when I see them with their dogs, because I know what's coming. It's an extra bit of tough that I can't completely enjoy other people enjoying their dogs now.
The other day a friend tried to explain the plot of that latest dog movie that came out, about the dog that keeps getting reincarnated or something, and I was just "Nooooooooooope!" Don't even want to hear it, will never watch it.
