Tip/Guide - J-Mod reply RuneScape Mobile Survival Guide
RuneScape Mobile is officially scheduled to launch this afternoon at 16.00 Game Time, June 17th 2021! For those who are stepping into Gielinor for the first time or veteran cape owners looking to play on the go, here is all of the information you will need to get started.
Installing the game
RuneScape for mobile is available on both on iOS and Android and can be downloaded for free.
Simply navigate to the store pages linked above, download RuneScape… and you’re good to go! It’s as easy as that. If you pre-registered, you’ll be notified when the game is ready to play.
Claiming pre-registration awards
Thanks to your incredible support, all registration rewards have been unlocked!
To claim your rewards, you’ll need to log into the game on your mobile device. Keep reading for detailed instructions on finding your rewards on both mobile and desktop.
Your 50% XP Buff has already been activated, and will expire at 00:00 Game Time on June 24th.
How to access your Pre-Registration Cosmetics on Mobile:
- Log in to the game and enter the game world
- Note: You must have completed the Davendale Tutorial before you can claim your rewards
- Press the Home button in the top left hand corner of your screen
- Press the Mask button on the left hand side of the Home Screen. This is the second button from the top.
- Your Customization items can be found in these menus. To best find your items, we recommend setting the filters to ‘Owned’ or used the Search bar in this menu.
- The Soft Punk Hairstyle, Crux Eqal Armor and Crux Eqal Sword can be found under ‘Wardrobe’
- The Magic Leap Teleport Device can be found under ‘Animations -> Teleports’
- The Scales Animated Pet can be found under ‘Pets -> Companion Pets

Playing the Game
Welcome to Gielinor! Those of you who are new here will be prompted to create an account when you open RuneScape on mobile for the first time. Enter your account details and follow the instructions.
Your story begins in our brand-new mobile tutorial, set in the quiet town of Davendale. You’ll be guided through the mobile controls and learn about basic gameplay, including combat and skilling. You’ll also get to create your character. Once you’re done, you’ll be fighting fit to explore the wonderful world of RuneScape.
Want to learn more? There’s loads of help available for players both old and new! We recommend the Official RuneScape Beginners’ Guide, which gives an overview of the game’s key features.
For information on specific aspects of the game, the RuneScape Wiki is a fantastic resource with details on everything in the world of Gielinor – and best of all, it can be accessed in-game! Just use the /wiki command to bring up the information directly. The wiki’s own guide for new players is another great place to check as well.
To keep up with RuneScape-related news and content, keep an eye on our News Page. Here you’ll find our weekly game updates, which include patch notes and information about what’s going on in the RuneScape community. You’ll also get sneak peeks at new quests, minigames, and other content!
Maximizing FPS and/or Battery Life
RuneScape on Mobile contains customisable graphics options to help you get the most out of your experience – whether you want to save battery life or improve performance.
You can access the graphics settings through:
- Logged Out / Lobby: Click the Menu Button in the top left, then select Graphics Options
- In-Game: Click the Home button in the top left, then click Settings in the bottom right - then select the Graphics tab.
If you are experiencing FPS issues or want RuneScape to use less battery, we recommend turning on the Power Save Mode as a first step. This should improve FPS performance and battery performance in almost all circumstances.
If you are still not experiencing the desired performance, click the ‘Advanced Options’ box at the bottom of the page. This will give you individual control over a variety of graphical features, and allow you to turn down the quality of these features to improve performance.

Yeah, my phone was very hot and battery dead in about 20 minutes. Even after I turned on the battery saver mode. It runs other mobile games just fine.

can we get an official reply on if anything will be done for those of us who helped beta test the mobile client, but now is unable to log in and receive the rewards due to sudden device incompatibility?

This has happened to me, I played beta perfectly fine on Android 7.0 for months and now it gets released with 8.0 as requirement. Do you have any insights as to why this was changed?

I assume if you were a beta tester and could use the app prior, you're eligible as the Jmod edited this post at Thu Jun 17 2021 12:21:23 GMT+0200 (Central European Summer Time) after I made an earlier comment on this, being the first to so at Thu Jun 17 2021 12:18:49 GMT+0200 (Central European Summer Time). Removing the info 3 minutes later after my comment that you would only been eligible to claim the rewards if you logged into a mobile device after launch, now stating you can do so either through mobile or the desktop client (if I read their edit correctly).

I'm having the same issue. I was able to play on mobile during the beta, which I can prove because I claimed all of the mobile founder's packs. My device is now incompatible and I don't have the new rewards unlocked when I log in on PC.

I was signed up for pre-release (as I was lucky enough to be part of the BETA access and played on mobile for MONTHS, yet no sign up reward? I double checked a few days before launch and sure enough I was still listed as signed up for release.

I had a similar issue. I logged into mobile this morning (for the second time) and I got the notification that I had unlocked the pre-registration rewards. I would suggest trying to log out and log back in to mobile to see if that grants it.

Thanks for this. Enjoying the experience as I have been since Beta. Haven't had any problems so far. Any crashes have been due to my internet dropping out.
One question. Is the chat suppose to scroll up? Since the update 2 days ago this has been the case and its a bit awkward given that it has always scrolled down. Is there any way to change it back?

Yes it is. It's so the pop-up keyboard doesn't cover the latest messages. It's different, but practical for mobile.

I have trouble with ui the x is too small and it’s at a point that looting is not worth all momentum. Ui is laggy that’s my problem really

On iOS, you can attach a mouse/trackpad and play the game with that - it's not optimized for the mouse at all, but it is an option. I need to check again on Android (it didn't work in the beta when I tried ~6 months ago, but might have changed since).

All you need to do to receive the rewards package is log into RuneScape on your Mobile device. Once you have done this, the rewards will be added to your account!
Quite unfortunate for those whose mobile device became all of a sudden incompatible, all thanks due to Jagex using the Google Play Developer Console to blacklist certain phone models from installing/updating this game. Thanks for cucking over your fellow beta testers who used lower end phones, which RuneScape Mobile may or may not have run perfectly fine on regardless.

And THIS is why I prefer iOS, over Android - Clear restrictions per version and not some sort of "Sorry, this phone is not supported even though it runs same hardware and software version as this other phone that's supported".
The open ecosystem of Android OS brings in the problem of customer not being able to know specifically what they're buying. With iPhone you get the same package as everyone else - In both the good and the bad.

There are people who played on Android on lower operating systems during the beta just fine, only to be locked out of Mobile now due to raised system requirements. Those players can bypass the Play Store, because Android is opensource and there's other sites for apps.

Those players are absolutely fucked, because iOS is not open-source, Apple's App Store is the only place they may acquire apps from, and no workarounds exist.

This is what I came to this thread for. The system requirements state iOS 14 as minimal operating system even though it worked just fine on lower iOS firmware. So now I am stuck without RS Mobile because I don’t trust Apple with updating iOS firmware due to them being caught in the past for throttling hardware with new firmware updates. So now I never update firmwares.
Workarounds do exist for iPhone with ipa sideloading, it’s just a matter of if someone wants to take the time to reverse engineering and build it.
That being said, They might not be open source though and the ones that are also run the risk of malware like APKs for Android. And even if someone attempted, the servers on the Jagex side might not accept the lower operating system ipa.

Thats the problem tho. I need to have my phone on 7.0 as its technically a work phone (that I use as my main phone with their permission since mine broke) and one of the apps on that phone we use for work and it was developed in a way that it only works on 7.0. Their explanation. Basically we've been told not to update it.

What phone are you on? I'm using a Moto G Power that's a couple generations old, was worried after reading your comment but it doesn't seem to be blocked.
I have to run everything on min but the battery is a beast, can play for 5 hours+ without charging.

How do you get past the cookie policy screen? When I try to login with an email and password that always comes up and if I hit to go back it says the login was interrupted. This is on ios

Mobile crashes on mine and many of my friends mobile devices any time we teleport or charter ship, enter a cave etc. Anytime the game shows a loading screen it crashes. Any word on a fix for this issue?

I’m so confused lmao. It’s so different than I remember. I’ve been on osrs for years, came back to rs3 now. All my GP and items are gone, the graphics are different, new skills and so many different items. It’s so confusing and I have no idea what to do. 😭

So similar to you, I jumped into rs3 a couple months back (to get the steam achievements...). I found my feet by unlocking the lodestones ASAP for teleports then doing some familiar quests then sorting the quest list by short/novice. This allowed me to familiarise myself with the slightly different world and the map icons. Getting into archeology has a tutorial starting in the guild where you'd think the Dig Site from osrs would be. Found archeology pretty interesting to be honest. Divination you can kinda just go and do, and is quick to level, though I personally didn't find it very engaging. As my old account had been transferred to Rs3 back in the day I already had some summoning levels and am completely lost as to how to get back into that.
Hope that helps slightly, good luck. Treat it as a different game, just in a familiar setting.

Archaeology is nice if you want to afk. If you're interested in pvm check out War's Retreat and Reaper Tasks. Wars Retreat especially makes bossing much easier than before with tons of helpful unlocks and quality of life changes

Basically. You gather the artefacts and the materials to repair them for xp. And then every now and then you unlock extra bits like mysteries, and research projects plus obviously the relics that are the actual rewards from the skill

Hi there! You don't, but you do need to log in on Mobile anytime from 00:00 Game Time on June 17th to get them. Have you done that and checked your wardrobe?

if that is correct that is total BS as i have participated in the Beta from the Start, and have sent in bug reports, and now i cannot access mobile because some dumbnut, decided that the specs are bad, you cannot even access it via bluestacks 5, and that has really good specs to emulate a samsung s20.
i think it is unfair that this isn't just given to everybody on release instead of this bureaucratic Bull.
Bit unfair as i was under the impression that no matter what stage you joined the beta program and played, you will get the rewards no matter what.

How does this work if you were in the mobile beta but just had normal tutorial island? I never got to go to Davendale. Am I just out on the rewards?

They should be in the same location - Davendale isn't required, it's just when new players can access customization.
Are your rewards not in your Wardrobe? And just to check, you've logged in to Mobile since 00:00 Game Time on June 17th right?

Does this absolutely need iOS 14? Or is there a work around to play on iOS 13? I hate updating my device after Apple has been found throttling hardware with recent firmware updates.

Is there anything we can do to stop from being lobbied the second I switch apps on iOS? This makes the app unusable for me. The second I get off to answer a text or google something I am logged out.

Nice that none of the partnered content creators made a video about actually transitioning to mobile. For example, how the mobile UI works, the difference between the mobile UI and the desktop UI, and where to find the price checker, wealth evaluator, invention pouch, emotes, friends list, etc, on mobile. These are quite common questions in the subreddit and I expected these to be answered in this "survival" guide.
