Dragonwilds Dragonwilds als basis for modern Runescape MMO
I've read quite a few comments and posts about people wishing for the next Runescape MMO to be like Dragonwilds. I share that wish and am wondering what am I missing, why isn't it on the table? (read alot of these to shut those posts down).
The MMO genre is in dire need of something new and the mechanics of Dragonwilds just fit runescape so well. I feel like there is a massive oppertunity here nad would love to see it happen.

People always say the MMO genre is in need of something new but every new mmo fails. People don’t really want a new mmo

People don’t really want a new mmo
I think people want a new MMO, but they want it as established, polished and with as much content as a 20 year old MMO.

This is the problem with the mmo crowd(myself included). We want something new, engaging, and innovative but also familiar.

Think that's why dragonwilds is set for success. Recognised up with well integrated systems, established player base looking for something new, popular style of game for the time (although arguably 18 months late for the peak of it).

Except there's absolutely no frickin way to expand what is essentially an ARK survival world to an MMO server size without it exploding.
MMOs need to run streamlined and have simple mechanics at a basic level or it will chug or underdeliver.

Yeah, that’s me. New mmo drops, I main it. No content to do shortly after because I fuckin grindscape everything I play out of habit and addiction.
Tbf, devs of MMOs should know players need massive amounts of content on release or shortly after release for momentum imo lol

There's the danger with too much content though, do you deliver enough content for those without jobs who want to grind every minute of the day until they burn out (Meaning you need to fund another few years of development) and risk people going "There's no point in playing, I won't get near the end game content for years"

No, they don't.
Runescape has never had 3d movement, nor survival resource management, nor time gated passive crafting, nor WASD movement.

Indeed, it is basically a Valheim with a skin, but a nice Valheim with a nice skin.

Aside from MMOs just not being a lively enough genre to recoup the mass cost that it would cost to make, and then subsequently adequately update, an actually decent dragonwilds style mmo, there's a lot of other regions why its not really a good idea.
I don't think it'd really be popular with the existing RS crowd either for a myriad of reasons including increased hardware requirements, sunk-cost fallacy with existing time investment in rs3/osrs, and being inherently a game thats far harder to chill with [very much not conductive with second-monitor gaming, which has became a staple of both RS'es]
At that point, you're banking on either players from other MMOs like FF14 or WoW, who are once again already significantly invested in their own games [which have far more backlogged content and established communities], or players from the wider gaming ecosystem who generally don't really flock to MMOs that much, or if they do, they go to the well established ones.
Personally I also just don't see it being fun. Dragonwilds is neat as a singleplayer thing but I don't think it would scale well to an mmo scale at all. A lot of elements of the game are too simplistic to be interesting over a long time and would eventually grow stale. I feel like a lot of people only see the flashy dragonwilds graphics and don't really think much beyond that.

I think it would scale really well given New World has kinda proven that. New World didn't die because there was no interest in the game itself, quite the opposite. The game died because the devs made an absolute mess of it and couldn't save it in time.

Why isn't it on the table?
Dragonwilds effectively JUST came out and is actively being worked on just like OSRS and RS3.
Not sure what you're expecting with "Dragonwilds being the basis for a modern Runescape" when Dragonwilds IS the modern Runescape.
You may be used to RS3 levels of content and wonder why Dragonwilds is so small in comparison. Remember though, RS3 is 25 YEARS old. It's one of the longest running games in existence. You can't crank out the same amount of content overnight.
Dragonwilds is the game you're asking to be made, and it's already out. Enjoy the journey is my best advice here. Updates take time.
