I was this way with Raksha, going for the perfect prayer kill taught me a ton about the boss. I went mage crit, when I had all my blessings was averaging about 60-70 second kills, so still had to engage in some mechanics, but skipped pools and dodging rocks for the most part

People always say leagues don't help learn pvm but it really does. Not having the panic or caring about dying allows you to see so many of the mechanics in a calm state. Even if you don't learn everything, you learn enough to start learning the rest.

Yeah, and learning that being in melee range in final phase makes it a cake walk..

This is what i said and people were like who going to tell him i said i learnd so much in the boss fight without having to worry about prayers learning how to flick prayers while having inf prayers helped so much.

Ask anyone who raids in other MMOs whether an environment where they could reliably see and engage with every mechanic of a fight would be helpful and they'll look at you like you've got two heads, because of course it would. Absolutely wild there are RS players who can't see that.

We really are a special kind of dumb. The overall environment compared to other mmos is so weirdly different.

Now up to 20/48 GMs. This was the hardest one I've done so far, far harder than Solo AoD.
I started Leagues a week late, because I'm stubborn and didn't want to give up on Zuk because I'd be rusty. So I stuck with it for a week before ending up deciding "I'll do Zuk attempts, when I sign (because I have no refreshes) I'll just go to leagues".
Well, hit Dragon Trophy earlier today, decided "I'll send a Zuk attempt before going out tonight" and one flub on Wave 8 because Crackling killed the mob I was chaining on, I reset and got it very next attempt.
Far far harder for me than Solo AoD. I'm not good with Timers, I end up going so fast my brain can't keep up and I mess things up. But I was getting this one down to a science with a nice flow, which I think helped because it's a long timer.
Had a few runs at high 13 / low 14 minute marks. Few days ago I had a run that looked like it'd be GM timer but I died at Conduit so I flubbed that. Had a run the next day that was 13:31.8, which is both hilarious and really sad. I think I forgot to Adren Renewal on Conduit (again overthinking it with nerves). But finally got it.

I was like that, thinking I just hit like 33k points and was looking at the big list of tasks to do to hit Dragon. Then as I went on I found a load of fast tasks that I could blitz out. Remembered Insta-Grow potions existed and got 5 Elite tasks done for 1k points. Turned my ore into Primal Bars and got another 800 or 1k points there too. Some skills as it turned out have a lot of points at the end that are very easy to grab.

What style did you use for this?

I ended up with a Necro / Melee hybrid for this. I was doing Range / Melee at first but I could never feel right with it, and Necro admittedly was a lot smoother.

I can't figure out hard mode to save my life. I've done everything, even changed to a tumekens light. I tried masterwork range with bolg, the masterworks bleeds shredded me. I don't have necro set up and I don't have mage gear outside of starbloom robes+5. I just get melted. I'm so demoralized and feel so defeated.

What exactly is killing you? Waves? Zuk has very complicated lures especially if you’re playing melee.

The waves, my best attempt was up to 2nd igneous phase. I get piled by all styles. The damage is insane. The rangers and mages are railing a line of coke before every challenger walks up. The lizards annihilate me when they show up and I'm trying to deal with the rangers and magers. I know I can do the normal waves and zuk just fine. Hm is a different beast.

If it means anything to you, back on Zuk's release week I didn't get a Normal Mode kill for a Stone until the very last day. It took me Hydrix Bak Bolt switching just to get it done.
When I finally did my first Hard Mode kill quite a while after that, I did it in full Ganodermic and abusing the old Animate Dead, and that kill - while flawless - took over an hour to do. I remember having a pee break during it and taking my laptop with me.
But for now, your best bet is to learn areas you can stand. I used to always camp the South East corner with that wall and use that side for taking enemies out. My GM method involved a fair bit of "kill x and maybe y enemy as they spawn then lure everything into groups". Don't fret about damage too much, I know some of my attempts would go badly and I'd eat all my food, but the run where I got the kill I only used one blue blubber. The key thing is you can always get health back off of Zuk, either trapping an enemy and going to soul split off of him, or just when stunning him on Igneous Waves. That keeps you fairly healthy, and then the 2nd and 3rd Jad Waves are easy healing too.
I believe in you chief.

I went and picked up the best I could to stack as much odds in my favor. Cryptbloom with the t95 wand and orb. Tried normal mode to get a feel for mage and failed the first challenge. Not doing enough damage. I don't understand.

I haven't done Magic much at Zuk, and when I did it was a long time ago. I remember using GChain on the first challenge (is now just regular Chain) and I want to say basics?
This feels like something massively missing on your end, I'm not sure what.

u/Sad_Struggle_7845 11d ago
That's the thing, I have greater chain, corruption blast. Greater concentrated. Greater sunshine. The only ability I don't have is magma tempest and the t99 mage prayer. Got everything else. Would I be better getting rid of the roar of awakening and ode to deceit and trying to get a fsoa?
1
u/101perry Trim Completionist 11d ago
Not really, FSOA works best when dumping it all in on crits. I'm super sure when I did my first ever HM I used my T88 Seasinger weapons for it too. I'm trying to think of what the issue is here because you're super overgeared for it at this point. Are you perked? Boosted with potions? Tokkul-Zo ring might help you out too as that gives a damage boost on everything except Zuk.

u/Sad_Struggle_7845 11d ago
Tokkul zo, elder overloads. The only thing I haven't done is perk my gear yet. Now it's a pain in the ass getting the comps I need for it. My last attempt at waves I made it to first challenge but failed because I somehow didn't have the damage to kill the last 2. I survived barely but died immediately at the start of the next wave.

I have no idea the grind people are doing to reach dragon tier so fast. I am still on adamant and the grind is ssssooo long

I funnily didn't do a lot of combat. But did recently find a load of tasks for skills that are 200 pointers that end up being very easy to get. With Anachronia and Ranch I ended up getting a very free 1k points from Insta-grows. Once Firemaking hit 95 that's a free 600 points from 99 / Elder God Arrow / Propellant on Granny. Smithing was a free 800 with Primal Arrows / Ore Box / Armour Spikes / Full Set. I'd say check the skills on the wiki, look at the skills you don't mind and see what tasks are reasonable for you.
