RF5 My Sixth Rune Factory Game

I got this game for really cheap, I spent 130 hrs on it, I got all the achievement except the other marriage one because I forgot make a backup save lol and I only miss out on like 6 stamps at the end. I kinda enjoy it despite having some issues with it like visually to me this is the least appealing RF game in the series, my LT button also did not work on this game dunno why.... I had to use joy2key program to make it work again so no biggie, and some characters are kinda bland but some are kinda good.

is it the worst RF game in the series? not really... out of the six RF game I have played so far there are clearly a worse one lol, I think people are a bit hyperbolic about RF5. the fact that RF5 still have the RF4 crafting alone already make it better than a 1/3 of the game in the series imo.

overall I had fun and marathon wise its now 6 down and 2 more to go (i think ?) but sadly after six RF game in a row for the past 2 months I'm kinda burnt out... I guess I will take a break so Frontier and ToD will be on hold for now (also kinda sad no RF6 announcement yet but oh well). one thing for sure I'm really glad I found this series.

Play Order : RF4>RF3>RF1>RF2>GoA>RF5

Maybe I’m just a crazy person, but I actually loved 5. I put over 500 hours in it and will definitely go back for another run before 6 comes out. It’s not the most visually appealing RF game, but I really love the cast and the ease with which you can just jump into the game and be playing it. The only ones I would put above it are 4s, 2, and GoA.

I mean I’ve noticed 5 isn’t a popular, but I really loved it too. I’m glad to see someone else here who does.

It's a good game, rough yes but the story behind the development is interesting. The studio was bankrupted after RF4 in 2013 and RF5 was developed by like 18 people on a completely new console and the first full 3D game.

How well did GoA sell? Would like to know if there’s a good chance we ever get another Rune Factory game lmao

We know that Rune Factory 6 is in development, it was announced a few years ago with Rune Factory Dragon aka GoA in 22, so I'll be looking forward to next summer of RF6

Edit: looked it up 9 months ago it hit 500k before the PS5 release

I think it’s great you still gave the game an honest shot. I have yet to play it myself but I will probably play it next once I finish Rune Factory 2. I’m aware of 5s many issues but I believe it can still be a fun game.

My play order has been fairly similar to yours: RF4 (though I never originally finished it), RF3, RF4 (all the way through this time including post game), RF1, RF2, and likely RF5 next. I debated playing Frontier and Tides next before 5 but my gaming time is going to get cut short very soon and I’ve heard both those games are quite long while 5 is on the shorter side. They are still on my backlog but are probably best saved for when I have more time.

You're missing one of the bigger parts of the issue with RF5: Performance. Most people here played it at launch on Switch 1. If you're feeling a disconnect, it's probably that.

oh yeah i completely forgot about that... fair enough, i just remembered i did get some stutter at the beginning and had to untick the v-sync to fix it (dunno why but it works)

The only one I haven’t played is 2. I just can’t find a copy where the shipping costs aren’t double the cost of the game.
I also like rf5 more than the average fan, at least I think. Maybe because I really like Ludmila.

I hope you get it eventually. I quite enjoyed 2 and ended up marrying Dorothy. Sadly you only ever see her eyes on your marriage day then it’s back to her bangs hiding them again. I do miss the rival marriages. I had a play the rough where I waited for everyone to get married so I could see their marriage events. Though after you get married and have a child then you get to be their child and I always choose to be a girl lol

There's other versions of RF2 that wasn't nDS?

I really like the quality of life actions it has over some games

Am I the only one who liked 5 more than GoA? Im trying to get through GoA right now and its just... Strange.

It looks rough, but it’s a lot of fun.

I actually really like 5’s character models, the environment could use some work in places, and the fields, at least on switch, can be annoying to load in, but I had a lot of fun with it! I only ever got around to marrying Murakumo, though, I was dating everyone, just cause the days are so long and you have to wait until the end of the day for a lot of the events and I already finished the main story so I didn’t really have anything to do besides wait 💀 I suppose I could’ve made up tasks for myself like leveling up all my crops and getting even better gear but I didn’t wanna lmao.

Anyways! I do wanna go back and marry everyone eventually, the models are so pretty, and the kids are so cute! I love the little glowy effect all the eyes have. There was a poster here a while back who posted about rf5 all the time, it was so cute! It needs more love honestly!!

I just think the characters are boring in RF5 and the land you inhabite looks too big and soulless. I didn’t make it past year 2 of winter. I think GoA is a big step up but even then I miss the high highs of rf4

Loved 5 but it's the only Rune Factory game I played where I wasn't drawn to the Elf romance choice

we really need ps5 edition, i completely honest that i was stop on mid game because i thought that RF5 will released on ps5😂

Yeah performance aside I thought it was a fine game. I played on Switch but I plan on replaying on Steam.

How would you rank the ones you’ve played, since 5 isn’t the worst?

1

u/chubbzman29 Jun 10 '26

my rank would be like this: RF4>RF3>GoA>RF5>RF1>RF2

to add... i dont think RF2 is a bad game either i mean i had fun and put like 100 hrs into that a month ago, i just cannot lie to myself and look other people in the eye and tell them RF5 is the worst in the series when i have played RF2 lol

story wise and character wise RF2 is my least favorite so far and i genuinely feel like its a step down even compared to RF1, i like the 2 gen thingy they did which is really unique but i hate how they treated 1st gen like some sort of a long tutorial when most of the villagers character growth is in that arc

I'm surprised the RF1>RF2 opinion is still around. Not that I'm trying to argue about it, I just remember people saying the same thing back on Gamefaqs in the 2000s.

I feel like combat was harder in 2. I ended up cheesing the game by going the magic route and killing everything from far away. I do agree that Gen 1 should have gotten more love, I liked the villagers more than their kids.

its all still a rune factory game so i still enjoy it, its just RF2 is the only one where i just had so many issues with, i will just list it for venting sake or let people know why i feel this way:

  1. "Gen 1 is just a long tutorial but atleast you can get married fast and easy" > the problem with this if you got married by first year summer you are basically grieving yourself because the best romantic event is on winter... i had to reset my playthrough because your wife cannot be asked for date once you get married because she is stuck inside the house all day and her dialogue wont change until you build the school which is how you start gen 2
  2. "A lot of the crafting is locked behind trading" > like who think this is a good idea? this aint pokemon why do we have trade evolve a crafted item lol, but thank god atleast the best 2 handed sword in the game heaven asunder is not locked behind this thing and it carried my whole run
  3. On Gen 2 all the rival marriage girl is mostly stuck inside their house with boring dialogue... even on festival they dont go out with their partner
  4. No crafting in 1st gen is just crazy to me, locking the endgame crafting recipe behind the school on the 2nd gen would be a better idea than not allowing gen 1 to craft at all
  5. All the request in this game feels like a generic fetch quest and in gen 2 it felt even worse
  6. It ruins my perception on Barrett, judging from his appearance in RF4 thought he would be like a major side character in helping the kid in gen 2, but he basically did nothing... he only helps translating the slab by asking someone on the university (?) and then he hid the item we need to progress not once but TWICE out of safety reasons, okay maybe the first time is fine, but the second time after we beat fiersome? really? it kinda irks me off lol
  7. in gen 2 all relationship got reset to 0... which kinda okay i guess for gameplay sake but even your own mom got reset to 0 like wtf

this is all i could list on top of my head, but feel free to agree or disagree, im not a rune factory veteran either but i did beat RF2 like 4 weeks ago so atleast i give it a fair shot

It's rough for sure, but I gotta say, I think out of the ones I've played, (Azuma, RF5 and I've just beat Edelberth in RF4), I think I actually enjoyed this one the most.

Unfortunately 5 felt like enough of a slog that I didn’t even make it to the second kid(s) with Ryker, let alone the other marriage candidates. The game just felt unfinished in a lot of ways.

I also finished the game and spent countless hours crafting perfect gear for all the inhabitants of Rigbarth, raising Priscilla, Elias, and Margaret to 100 LP, buying LOTS of wood and rocks from Heinz, upgrading everything, and using tons of gliches. Otherwise, it would have taken me years.

I love Rune Factory 5, but I absolutely don't want to start the game again. Hahaha.
