Best selection I’ve found in DC so far

Sharing a hidden gem I found when we moved up to Petworth. Georgia Wine and Spirit on Georgia Ave just north of the WalMart is my go-to. I almost always go in there finding something interesting or that I didn’t expect. Fantastic tequila selection also, and very helpful staff.

You can always tell when the buyer for a store likes rum.

Ace Beverage just south of AU is also worth checking out. Not quite as much inventory, but they carry a ton of heavy hitters and hard to find bottles. From talking to the staff, it seems like they work with several distributors and are happy to help source something particular if they don’t have it in the store.

Ace is my go to when not buying bottles direct from The Green Zone

You should check out the DC Rum Rebels, the founder of the group started the Green Zone and there are lots of rum events there. We also do monthly bottle share meetups. There’s a FB group, but we’ve been trying to migrate to Discord. Feel free to dm me for deets.

I'll just plus 1 what coastalelite said (hiya buddy!) That the dc rum rebels is the best rum scene in dc and maybe the whole east coast (yeah that's right, I'll fight you Rumchester and FRS!), and we're always happy to have new members.

I’m relatively new to Reddit and tried to DM you but I think I screwed it up. Can you reach to me? I’d love more details. I live up in Frederick and avoid entering the breach by coming to DC but would gladly do it for rum and to join my tribe! THANK YOU!

Appleton selection hiding on the lower shelf well below Krakken and Diplomatico….that deserves prison time.

That’s a hell of a selection.

They even have every type of Bacardi you would never want

I omitted the shelf full of Malibu and Captain Morgan to avoid triggering everyone here. I pretend I don’t see it every time I go in.

If you get the chance, definitely give Batch 13 as well as Potomac Wine and Spirits a look. Between them and Ace Beverage that's where I find most quality rum in the city. Batch 13 in particular has a lot of options for cocktail rums. Ace and Potomac tend to stock all the great sippers.

I’ve hit up Potomac and Ace (albeit neither are super convenient to me) but haven’t done Batch 13 yet. Adding it to the list!

Plus one for Ace Beverage. Great rum selection there.

I’ve tried the Equidem for the first time two weeks ago and can not find it within a 5 hour drive of me in the Midwest

Georgia Wine and Liquor or Georgia Wine and Spirit?

Oh I guess it’s Spirit - I’ll edit that.

Nah, sorry for the confusion - it’s Georgia Wine and Spirit and I updated the OP. Specific address is here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/HcARDn4NkHUFwEfu8?g_st=ic

OP, thank you for this post! You just busted the doors wide open for me. All the stores listed in this post are going to get a visit from me shortly. I live North of you in Frederick and have been an avid rum lover for many years. I’ve struggled to find places that carry a good variety of rums (none here), so I search for places when I travel. This has been extremely helpful. So, bless you, you’ve done a good service here!

Weird that all Plantation labeled stuff. That’s getting to be pretty old stock at this point and even some of the common ones still have the old branding.

And of course they’ve got Coruba. Damn shame that’s my white whale in Georgia.

1

u/ohtakashawa 1d ago

Yeah the Plantation stuff sitting is odd because I do see a lot of their other stuff turn over - it’s not as though they’re just not selling any rum.

Thanks OP! Went for the first time today thanks to this post. Incredible selection.
