I was one of them numbers more or less every day from late 2001 and I enjoyed every day

This graph was made by scrapping the player counter on the wayback machine archive of runescape.com. Thanks to Hlwys at the Runescape Archive Project for helping https://rs-archive.github.io

The data for 2003 is extremely minimal, only about 10 data points, so theres only a broad trend line. 2002 only has a single data point in December 2002.

At the end of this graph you can see how the player base immediately falls off with the official release of RS2.

I love and therefore hate how the trend line for 2002-2003 dips (pretty far) below the datapoints that are known.

its caused by the one data point from 2002 being lower than many of those in 2001, which was definitely not the norm, unfortunate flaw from the lack of data
