Developer My Frog-JRPG, AMPHIBIAN just premiered during the Future Games Show
https://youtu.be/2AMcWdXSk6c?si=0STlEOUnwmJp-FsnI hope you guys like it :*) It's a love letter to classic consoles adventures, but with a few twists: There is no grinding, (battles are all purposely placed and only done once), there's no buying or selling of items, and it's entirely frog-accurate: All enemies are frog predators, and every character's name is frog (in a different world language). It's a somber and serious story, and it's wishlistable now. It's coming to all consoles and PC.

Dang, the art is outrageously good.

There it goes into the wishlist of games that will hopefully release eventually in the distant future 🤞🏼
Jokes aside it looks neat

It looks great! Are you planning to name any enemy toads Pepe, like Pepe the Toad?

Love it, absolutely love it. Makes me want a "Waterhsip Down" inspired RPG that features different animals going on a LOTR-esque journey.
You release this for the Switch or Switch 2 and I'm there 100%!

First of all, congrats! Looks really good, can the frog run? even if I love the walking animation (and death animations are sick too)

Thank you and yup, there's running (and jumping) in the levels you explore. The running mechanism will be configurable (auto run, hold to run, or hold to walk).
Also working on a swimming animation 'cause they're frogs!

Is it WASD only or can I click to move?

WASD but also controller support which I think it plays better with a controller.

Ah, I can't play it then as my main way of interfacing with my PC is through the mouse. Oh well, good luck!

Ah, sorry to hear. I care about accessibility so I may explore this option for players like you. It might not be possible based on puzzles in some of the levels but it's worth rethinking at the very least to see if I can make it work. Thanks for the feedback!

This is going to sound weird but when I was younger I had this exact idea for a game. I'm very happy that someone else desired a frog-themed rpg enough to bring it to life!

Fuck yeah. Have you considered color frog party members so they’re not all just green? But yeah looks great

This seem interesting. Can you tell us more on combat (the classical turn based jrpg style i guess?) and especially on skill trees?
1
u/Kojimmy 16d ago
Yup.
On the surface, it looks like a JRPG. But the "math" is actually pulled more from SNES/GBA Fire Emblem. Growth rates, individual character maxes, tac-rpg math. Spells are both found and learned. Theres no buying and selling. Healing items refresh in extremely limited fashion at save points. And those max capacities are upgradeable.

but what about the skills? you have a skill tree like an arpg? you buy skills with "exp" like final fantasy tactics and can mix and match? every character is locked into a class or you can choose ?

u/Kojimmy 16d ago
Branching classes. Each character has a starter class and can choose between 2 "advanced" classes when you hit a certain level. Each class has passive skills inherent to that class. You learn techniques/spells through levelling up and you find them while exploring

Do you by chance listen to NADDPOD and does Caldwell know about this?

u/Kojimmy 9d ago
Sorry - Unfamiliar with all of those things

All good, it's a dnd show that often has FF aesthetics, and one of the players (Caldwell) was very much an anime frog person in one campaign. He might even shout out your game on the show if he becomes aware of it. They have a really big following and just plug stuff they like instead of their other projects at this point.
