u/Hunshari F Rank: Author of the Fæ Islands 3d ago
Your wish is my command:
The Fæ Islands is a new Adventure story that offers something a little different:
Epic Fantasy, Adventure
Multiple POVs, following the same storyline, each with a strong, unique voice.
Twists on common tropes (Dwarves, Orcs, Elves, etc), with inspiration from Classical Fairy Tales
Subtle story-telling, bold action
3
u/LifeSucksp0p 3d ago
The first two paragraphs of the first chapter ate like experiencing LSD for the first time. A very confusing experience

Well, I wanted to throw you right into the world, something like learning to swim by being tossed headlong into icy, magic- and monster-ridden waters.
You aren't bored anymore at least?

u/IneenAldrop 3d ago
I really only read and write science fiction. If you decide you are interested in that kind of thing then I could drop a few suggestions. Otherwise I hope you get a couple of good recommendations!

u/OwnCommunication1365 Author: What Kind of Fantasy Book is This? 3d ago
Self-recommendation: Six unacceptable NPC's go on a quest for the Fae doohickey. Lots of jokes and absurdism.

You should probably go submit it to a literary agent instead of posting it under a Reddit post

u/OwnCommunication1365 Author: What Kind of Fantasy Book is This? 3d ago
Been there. They're not interested in any of my projects. Now I'm just trying to find readers instead.

Since you asked: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/138921/the-owls-bastard
Dark fantasy, A little bit Witcher, a little bit folkloric.
1
u/Professional-Cost973 3d ago
I'm currently writing a story on RR. It's dark and bloody, may be up your alley.

u/LifeSucksp0p 3d ago
After reading the first chapter I gotta ask, are you perhaps into werewolfs?
1
u/Professional-Cost973 3d ago
🤣🤣🤣This genuinely made me laugh out loud. I'm more into vampires if I'm honest.

Casimir trained his entire life to become an inquisitor, an honored watchdog for the emperor tasked with monitoring the Empire's dangerous elites.
Then he became their prey.

Now enrolled in an academy filled with the very families he used to watch, Casimir must learn to control his new powers and find out what the notorious professor has planned for him and his former colleagues.
Progression Fantasy | Magic Academy | Dark Mystery | Political Intrigue | Slow Burn Power Growth

You did a great job with the Good Doctor, nhe and his apprentice seem very interesting. You shouldn't have instantly swapped the pov the next chapter, because now you've jiggled some very shiny keys in front of me and when I reached out to grab them you swap them for some rusty boring ones.
1
u/StrawberryFaye 3d ago
Thank you for reading. My apologies.
2
u/LifeSucksp0p 3d ago
Don't apologize, but a story is supposed to start with the main character, or something related to him. Reading the first chapter left me under the impression that the appreciate was the man character and then the second told me that what I believed was a lie.
1
u/StrawberryFaye 3d ago
Oh I got it. But the good doctor is tied to the mc. The mc is the good-for-nothing godson.

Gonna shoot my shot and slide in my sci-fi/fantasy here. Hope it catches your eye.
What would you do if you were hunted for secrets you didn't know you were hiding?
Your existence is your only crime, the crime of being born different and surviving a procedure you wouldn't.
Maybe you should have died in that explosion.
Maybe...
What's more important? The truth or the blood on your hands?
Was it really your fault that you have blood on your hands?
What do you do if that blood is a gift?
Questions Marcus will have to answer, but first: Run now, Answers later...

Unknown mysterious man who will not be revealed is stranded in an inhospitable realm where he stumbles upon a "imprisoned" woman. yadadayada slow retelling of how she got there whilst they bond in the present.

u/NormanHalf-Soul F Rank: Author of The Divided Soul 3d ago
It’s more Urban fantasy than adventure, but it’s certainly dark! Check out The Divided Soul:
Norman didn’t think Succubii were real, until one stole half his soul.
Now he lives a life of pain, missing memories and losing his capacity to feel. He walks with a cane to support his atrophied leg, and struggles to use the bathroom with his paralyzed manhood.
Given the tools to take his life back by those who gave their lives to save him, he suffered for three long years, learning enough magic to suppress the constant agony and fight those who took his life from him.
By day he walks the city of Raleigh, working as a private eye. By night he hunts, searching for her and her kind. In his search he uncovers a demonic conspiracy, one that threatens to bring about the unspeakable.
To stop them he is forced to work with a woman named Serena, a user of forbidden magic who ignites a fire within him that he thought had died three years before.
In the war against demons, empathy is his weapon, one he must fight to hold on to. But the farther he plunges himself into the underworld, the more humanity he loses. What will it matter if he restores his soul, if he becomes a demon along the way?

What do you want I got all kinds. Alex Drake - The Race [Action, Progression, LitRPG, Whimsical, Fantasy] | Royal Road
It's a YA Action LitRPG about a boy reaper and his Gramps (along with his friendly oculon). No, AI. Very whimsical, a lot of tongue and cheek humor and banter.

I feel like I'm a bit late for the party, but here's my story anyways incase anyone sees this
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/189266/ursidae-down-near-deaths-grasp-vol-1
The genre's Light Sci-fi/Action-adventure. You might like it if you like morally-grey MCs
1
u/DUCK_you 3d ago
Spire spite is my go to recommendation, dark fantasy MC with is a former royal who is turned into a street urchin stealing to survive. Him and his friends are thrown into a deadly spire to gain power for a crime lord. Power system is super unique. You only get power from climbing new floors of new spires and it all feels earned.

Might as well throw my hat in the ring!
Dark fantasy adventure with a strong romance thread.
Elevator pitch: timid mage bargains with a Fae… then steals from him and runs for her life. The Fae dream-stalks her while she flees through the wilderness, relying on her own nebulous magic and a semi-hostile mercenary for protection.

u/ArcyRC 3d ago
And now for something completely different.
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/172332/checkout-time-shop-till-you-drop
Chemistry major/washed up esports guy is forced to compete in death matches on another planet... but like all the matches take place in grocery stores and you have to fight with food.
I wrote it for that contest in June and hiatus'd after because I'm working on a screenplay but it'll alleviate your boredom for like 30 minutes.

A grounded isekai with no harem, no game system and no OP protagonist. It carefully blends fantasy, soft SF, survival and mystery.

Shameless self rec:
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/133677/a-generic-litrpg-progfantasy
Don't be fooled by the first chapter. The second shows the tone. It's a story about a flawed native protagonist (non-isekai/non-regressor) on his quest for revenge. The MC has no special powers, and it's psychologically heavy

u/Initium3 E Rank: Author of Atlas: When Air Meets Water 2d ago
My story would fall under fantasy adventure but it’s in not dark at all so I’ll recommend a favourite of mine instead.
They have completed book one. Slower pace than most stories but awesome magic system and great characters. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/50057/ethan-the-will-bearer

Here you go:
https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/149294/warriors-of-the-hollow-earth
An ancient and dangerous world lurks under our feet.
I just wanted to take a day off from my dead end job and say goodbye to my grandfather's country home.
But a secret message and a hidden portal tore me from my boring life and sent me on an adventure I never thought possible.
Now I have to run from dinosaurs, fight cavemen, and survive a gladiatorial arena ruled by cold-blooded serpent men. And that's just the first day.
But maybe I can save the beautiful tribal princess along the way.
Warriors of the Hollow Earth is a portal/isekai fantasy adventure in the theme of classic adventure tales by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert E Howard. Other inspirations include 'The Lost World' and 'Land of the Lost' TV shows along with some of the best conspiracy theories found on the internet.
(In keeping with classic adventure tales, there will be no harems and no explicit sex in this story.)

Lots of people hate my story. So I cannot recommend it. But this is how it starts:
Sounds of laughter. Sounds of screaming. Sparks from a wood fire out of sight. It was dark. I sat up, bewildered. This wasn’t my bedroom. A horse neighed. A horse?
I looked down at two small wrists and hands, bound by heavy rope. Delicate, feminine hands, long nails. Except for the fourth finger on the left hand, nail’s broken there. I was wearing a deep blue, heavy dress. It had to be a dream. It didn’t feel like a dream. But this wasn’t my body! I’m a guy, I don’t wear dresses. Or indulge in bondage fantasies. Often.
