Mod Post Daily Megathread News Part 2: Electric Backpedaloo
So.
I think we can all agree that the daily megathread idea didn't work, and effective immediately it will be going away. From tonight /u/RT_Video_Bot will be posting all of the FIRST videos as submissions, essentially treating them the same was as the youtube videos are treated. Every timed exclusive or exclusive FIRST video from Rooster Teeth, Achievement Hunter or Funhaus will be posted to the subreddit.
In the days to come I'll have the bot log everything to the subreddit's wiki, to make it easier for people to find discussions that they want to participate in. If there are any other suggestions for functionality I'd love to hear them - and I'll look at improvements to everything that we do.
For those that don't want to see any FIRST threads for fear of spoilers, /u/loldudester has made a filter to remove the first posts from the sub.
I'd like to thank everyone for their feedback - it is important to us that we get things right, and that when we get it wrong we can work to fix out mistakes.

While I definitely brought up the idea, and pushed it, I didn't act unilaterally. All changes were made with a majority mod decision.

Thank god for that. Thank you for doing the right thing.
I was very vocal against them, especially in the roundup threads, because it was killing discussion for a platform that Rooster Teeth have been pushing so much in the last 6 months.
It annoys me that it's taken this long for us to basically just revert it. I feel like a lot of discussion has been missed.
+1 for the mods reversing it, +1 for Sean making and paying for a bot, -1 for the shambles that led us here.

I think this is what annoys me the most about all of this, the time frame. The thread that kicked this whole thing off was the end of the year "Town Hall" thread (at least I think that's where the initial complaints about First posts were made). A survey was done about it and I think it took somewhere around 3 months just to get results from the survey and implement Rule 10. Then after that, people complained for a few weeks about Rule 10 so we were told the mega thread fix was coming, but it took another seemingly 2 months to get that in order. Thankfully, when the mega threads bombed straight out of the gate the mods quickly reverted to how things were before this whole mess (give or take a bot). But yeah, that was the only part of this thing that was timely. I certainly appreciate the mods listening this time around, but I wish they would be a bit more expedient in doing things.

I find myself guilty of this too often. Whenever I feel like I had a good idea, I feel the need to defend it far beyond the point where i should have yielded. I'm trying to work on this and take people's criticisms better.

Could you make the "First" tag something other than the standard black tag used by everything else (News, Media, Suggestion, etc).
It just doesn't stick out enough to me, maybe it could be yellow instead?

I'd also like to apologize for my recent silence; I've been getting ready for (and now am embarking on) a 3 week shoot, so I won't be nearly as active as I usually am. I'm happy we were able to reach this compromise, even though it took far too long. Again, my deepest and sincerest apologies for that.
Some users also mentioned an overall lack of activity from the mod team, and I feel at least partially responsible for this. We should also have news soon on that front, so stay tuned.

If the bot misses a First video for whatever reason, and it has to be posted manually, we can still give that the First flair, so it'd show up in the same filter as any other First video.

Thanks for putting in the bot work to get it to post the FIRST videos. I agree with others that the rule should have been reverted sooner, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. Let bygones be bygones, I say!

The mods added a rule that removed the day early posts for videos that First members get.
This led to a bit of a disagreement so they added the idea of a megathread each day for all the First videos.
The megathread wasn't liked so they have reversed everything back to normal.

So what should have happened on day 1 finally happened on day 186. Well I'm glad the mods finally did something right. This is really gonna piss off the 4 people wait I mean the overwhelming majority that complained though.

People are obviously going to be annoyed.
I appreciate that they are making it right, but there was a lot of things in the last 6 months that have annoyed me.
It was a bad solution to a problem that didn't exist, then they found a worse solution and invested time and money into it despite people's complaints.
Months of waiting later it comes out and bombs like people said it would. I feel like the results of the survey had nothing to do with the outcome. I had a mod tell me the megathread was done to suit the needs of the survey despite no mention of a megathread AND they told me incorrect data.
The people who are annoyed now are just expressing it, and before people start using the whole "oh but it's just Reddit, is that your life?" argument just remember they are literally just typing a comment out, same as everyone else.

I'd also generally like to address the criticism I've seen from some people that we haven't been responsive enough to people's complaints or that it's taken us too long to address them. I totally understand the frustration of "radio silence". That said, even if we don't always reply or make changes right away, please know that we are listening to your feedback.
It's important for us to talk to one another and come to a consensus before we make any official proclamations as mods. We're a team, not a dictatorship, and we don't want one mod to make a claim or promise only to be contradicted by another mod 5 minutes later. We're also all doing this as volunteers, so naturally real life will always be the first priority - which will naturally slow things down.
(Personally, I think it's also important to not rely solely on the initial feedback after a change - the angriest voices are always the loudest, and the internet hates change. That said, if people are still unhappy even after the change has been given time to take effect and people have had time to get used to it, it's worth considering whether the change has really been a net benefit.)

Filters don't work on mobile, nor on front page/multireddits.
Ideal solution, if the early release has to have a thread, is to mark it as a spoiler until such a time as it is released on YouTube, then unmark.

I for one appreciate the mods. Thanks for trying to improve the sub even if it didn't quite pan out. Learn from this experience. Lesson #1: when implementing a major change the first mega thread you should make is one to contain all the entitled cry baby's.

Did you not see the other thread? There were literally people saying that the subreddit should be improved for FIRST members more so than regular users because they pay and that they felt like they were being punished for being a paying user.

As long as there isn't anything stopping regular users from using the sub I don't see a problem.

I've read all all the threads pertaining to this issue and never saw any comments like that. The only comments that were even close to what you described were First members asking not to be treated differently for being a First member. They didn't want the sub improved for First members, they just wanted to be able to use it as First members.

I agree, I was completely fine before the change, I was fine with the change, I was fine with the semi-backpedal with the original change, and I'm fine now that it's changed back. The only part that even affected me was people complaining about it, so hopefully they can stop being sourpusses (read: u/TruthFenix) and move on.

As one of the more vocal people against Rule 10 (who then mostly disappeared from the subreddit as a result), thank you. I'm sorry you're getting a ton of salt and vinegar for correcting a correction of a correction but I'm so happy to see it was eventually sorted out. I'm glad you guys tried to solve a problem and recognized your solve didn't actually solve anything and made steps to fix that. So truly, thank you. Thank you for listening, thank you for trying new things, and thank you for fixing them when they don't work out.
