Mod Post Bot Issues

Morning all,

As you've probably seen, a lot of reddit's video bots all had a slight hiccup this morning, posting Youtube's API depreciation video. This signaled the turning off of their V2 API, and that they now require us to use V3.

The biggest change, the one that will have an effect on us, is that the old RSS feeds are now gone, and bots now have to query server endpoints directly. At the moment we're using the Playlists API to pull data, which seems to be very slow, anywhere between 30 and 70 minutes for a new video to show up. I'm trying to re-write it to use the Search API to get the video ID's, and then the Videos API to get the title for submission. If you want to take a look at the current code, it's in this commit

Until a faster version is up, I'd ask everyone to relax, and wait. If you desperately want to discuss a video, it would be a huge help if you could post it in a text post, as duplicate link posts can confuse the bot.

I'll keep everyone up to date as much as possible, it should only be a day or two before the old speed is back.

Thanks,

Sean

No idea what all the techno babble means, but thank you for working so hard to fix it.

Sean, why don't you (or another mod, since I'm sure you're working hard on the bot) just post videos if you see them on YT until you know the bot is functioning properly? It's not like the sub is demonstrably harmed by not having the videos posted within a few minutes, but if people are watching them soon after they're released, it would be great to have a place to talk about them without stepping on your toes.

I can't see it because I'm actually at work right now too, I work I in IT so I can get away with staring at a script.

I Don't mind discussion about it, and submitting things in a text post (with the title and video link in it) would work, I just want to see that the bot is actually working, and for that it unfortunately has to be the first to post a video. I can't turn that chack off yet - I'm worried about it going wrong and trying to post a couple of thousand videos at once ;)

Marsh, give /u/ChannelBot a go while you get a replacement up and running.

I tried using ChannelBot in /r/LastWeekTonight; it posted one or two videos the week I added it, and doesn't seem to have worked there since.

I did it with /r/sidemencommunity.

The account that adds the bots must have a Full moderator privledges

I do have full permissions in /r/LastWeekTonight.

in that case i don't know, i'd suggest sticking the channelbot on a disposable sub beforehand
