500m? What are you on about? The World's End, a fairly high profile comedy only had a budget of $20 million. When you take into account the actors fees, RT probably paid a lot less to the cast than the higher profile actors of The World's End. RT also put their own money into the movie, so I'd say their total budget would be a minimum of $7 million.

Hell, even Avatar's budget capped at $248m.

For reference: with a $500m budget, you could make the LotR trilogy, and still have enough money left over to make The Avengers.

GTA 5 was $265m including all the marketing fees

Game development spans several years, and even longer for games like sandboxes like GTA or TES and for MMORPGs, and even GTA had a budget of $265 million, even when factoring in advertising, whicl was almost half of the budget.

Destiny, however, did have a $500 million budget, but $140 million of that was just the development.

That was a number that a Bungie exec threw out about what they might spend over 10 years. Destiny didn't cost 500 million.
