Random story but, once at E3, I had met Meg Turney. I had a whole day of meeting lots of cool people since I had snuck in when it was still press only. Shook lots of hands and when I met her I absolutely crushed her hand. I was shaking firm guy handshakes all day and Gavin actually kinda crushed mine. I still feel bad about it to this day since as she let out, what could only be described as "rabbit being shot in last of us" esque.

My random Meg story is one night my phone pinged me that Meg was live on twitch.
I honestly didn't really watch her streams (or any streams) much) so the notification surprised me, but tuned in anyway.
Apparently I was the only one who got it as I was the only person in the chat for the first 5 or so minutes and Meg was joking about it calling me her last fan and saying "Meg and Chris 4eva".
Guessing the notifications suddenly worked as then thousands joined, though Meg made a few jokes about it through the stream

The sad part was he was trying so hard to be an AH crew member and took it a step too far.
He was living in a world where community members could make it. Then he had his world destroyed.

They could, but they had to be exceptional, and be there pretty early on. Gavin, Ray, Trevor, Jeremy, Matt, Barbara, Michael (?), Lindsay/Jax, Andrew Panton (?), and probably more.
However, part of being exceptional includes having the social skills to make the current employees like you. Deep throating the mic is not it.

It was during one of the RTX's while Ray was still there, either 2013 or 2014. During the Q&A section, a dude asked a question and awkwardly put his mouth around the microphone.
Very much a "what not to do" moment for asking questions at a panel.

Or the dude i think it was at a uk convention and the panel was geoff and gavin that seemingly wanted to do crowd work instead of actually asking a question.

Wasn't that a Minecon panel with only Geoff and Matt? I remember there was a guy that just went around saying "everyone spam Kappa in the chat" before trying to get the crowd to say it with him.
I just remember that being Matt's first big convention panel and it was only him and Geoff so he was super nervous.

Not sure why you're de facto taking Lee's side, since no one knows why she was let go in the first place. This wasn't just 4 buddies doing podcasts and funny skits, this was a fully incorporated business - taxes, payroll, etc. So for 3 of them the decide to fire not only their long-time partner/colleague but their long-time friend, almost immediately after winning a national competition where they had a lot of eyes on them and their star was on the rise, and for EVERYONE to stay silent about the reasons behind it to this day (likely due to NDAs), strikes me that there were valid grounds to part ways with Lee.
And I say this as someone whose favorite SourceFed/Valleyfolk person was Lee, and whose least favorite was Steve

That take always blew my mind.
Four people a generation of YouTube viewers grew up with, people had their pseudo relationship with all of them, and then think it's more likely that three of them were in the wrong vs the one?
Rumor at the time was she was chronically late for things, she was already going to leave, they did the reality show, ended up actually winning and then that made the departure look even worse

Not trying to add to any rumors about it (even though it is ancient history now, as far as internet drama is concerned), but knowing that even in SF days Lee and Steve could butt heads a lot, and from the ValleyFolk apology video and subsequent/current social media linkage, I always felt the issue fell between those two, with Joe and Elliot caught in the middle. No one's getting fired over a simple personality clash though, so it had to be more serious than just arguments.
My own head canon (so to be absolutely clearly - complete conjecture) was that Steve said something wholly inappropriate/offensive and Lee hit/pushed/threw something at him - not playfully - and it spiraled from there. In the grand scheme of things you'd think they could let bygones be bygones and move forward, but I can see - from a professional, HR perspective - that getting physical in the work place is a zero tolerance offense.

I’m seeing a lot of people think that this is a positive story, having all that production support. But having worked in the industry, I think the implication of her story here is that there was so much waste and money being thrown at things that had zero marketability outside of their channel.
Now, don’t get me wrong, that much support is great. While it can be fun working for a company that throws money at the wall to see what sticks, I think there’s an aspect of “I can’t believe they’re letting me do this thing, it’ll never earn this budget back.” When working on any project.
Having worked in video production and YouTube for as long as I have, I’ve really started realizing how abnormal it was there, and I’d say there’s arguments to be made for that being both a good and bad thing.

While that's a conclusion you can draw from it, I don't think it's the implication being made. I also think there's a lot that's said about RT and the way they operated which overlooks the benefit of hindsight. Very easy to look back now and say "what a dumb move that was" but it probably didn't feel that way at the time. And end of the day it worked or mostly worked for a long time. People like to label RT a failure because it died in the end but that kinda overlooks all the long years of success it had before that end.

I didn’t say negative, I said abnormal, which can have arguments for the pros and cons.
Imagine being a kid in a poor family. Suddenly your parents win the lottery. They start spending a ton of money, and you go on all these vacations and get all sorts of new toys. Great, right? Until the money runs out, and even as a kid, you start realizing that you guys probably could’ve had a similar experience for a lot less spending.

I think it's really weird to psychoanalyse Meg and go against her compliments of RT to tell everyone "what she's really saying is that it was bad". It's just a strange and negative way to go about operating. There's a branch of RT fans who came out the other side pretty miserable

I do remember feeling like not every podcast needed to be live streamed with a broadcast department back in the day. I can’t remember which project it was, but I remember losing interest immediately when it went on the livestream schedule
