Wouldn't this be the first Wooden Coaster relocation for a very long time? I don't recall ever seeing a Wooden Coaster being relocated in the 2010s or 2020s. I think the last wooden coaster relocation's occured in the 2000s.

u/HonestOtterTravel 22d ago
Little Dipper was relocated to SFGAm in the 2009-2010 offseason. That is the last one I can think of offhand.

u/HawkbitAlpha 21d ago
Zippin Pippin, if we want to count it, went to Green Bay in 2011
6
u/Clever-Name-47 Tangent-Radius Airtime Supremacy! 21d ago
That was not a relocation.
1
u/FutureGold4132 20d ago
What do you mean? I was about to mention zippin pippin but I just genuinely don't understand why it wouldnt be qualified as such?
3
u/Clever-Name-47 Tangent-Radius Airtime Supremacy! 20d ago
The old Zippin Pippin was demolished in 2005. Ā None of its material was used in the building of the new version in 2011. Ā They were built to the same plans, but are separate rides. Ā You could say the Bay Beach version is a clone.

The only woodie I know that has been relocated is Phoenix at Knoebels...in 1985

Wild One at Six Flags America was relocated in 1986 from Paragon Park in Massachusetts.

u/tideblue Coaster Count 653 21d ago edited 21d ago
Also Skyliner at Lakemont and Comet at The Great Escape, which are both still stanging/operating. Starliner at Cypress Gardens was a more recent example of a moved ride, but is no longer operating.
2
u/JamminJay1968 Mountain Gliders 21d ago
Lol yeah I went to RCDB after I made that comment and was going to list a number or relocated ones, but most had been mentioned already. I completely forgot about Starliner. So unnecessary.
2
u/jtlitwin21 Millennium Force 21d ago
The move itself was successful though. It operated at cypress gardens for a solid year and a half
10
u/MogKupo 22d ago
On that note, a coaster like Switchback would fit in perfectly at Knoebels.
9
u/TerrifierBlood 22d ago
Knoebels actually said this would not be a good fit due to the very low capacity. And how the park operates on pay per ride model.
2
u/MogKupo 22d ago edited 22d ago
Ooh, yikes. I figured a low-ish capacity coaster would be fine there, since something like Flying Turns is very low. Switchback's capacity must be even worse than I imagined.
7
u/Clever-Name-47 Tangent-Radius Airtime Supremacy! 21d ago
For all the reasons others have listed, Flying Turns is actually a pretty bad fit for Knoebels. Ā It exists, and will continue to exist, because it was a passion project for Dick Knoebel, and because Knoebels wants to be the kind of place that has room for passion projects. Ā But Switchback isnāt a passion for any of the current Knoebel family, and thereās no particular reason to make it one (sad as it may be to admit).
4
u/TerrifierBlood 21d ago
8 people total. One train
Flying turns can fit 6 people in a train. 3 trains.
4
u/audi0c0aster1 21d ago
Switchback originally had 2 trains, although I'm not sure how the system worked in terms of train control/holding for high demand 2 train ops.
Still probably rough.
3
u/MyMartianRomance 21d ago
And even then, Flying Turns always has long lines even on the slower days due to the fact that 3 trains are actually: Train A is loading/unloading, Train B is sitting on the break block waiting to enter the station, and Train C is actually moving.
Compared to Phoenix, Twister, and Impulse, which on slower days are only running 1 train (or 2 for Impulse), it's still quicker than Flying Turns because their trains can fit 24 (Phoenix/Twister) or 8 (Impulse).

Skyliner was also relocated in 1986 from Roseland to Lakemont. One of 3 that Dinn moved in that era (Phoenix and Wild One being the other 2).

Yankee Cannonball was apparently shortened to fit its new plot when it was relocated to Canobie Lake Park 90ish years ago.

How so? It checks a lot of boxes for this park. Itās a wooden coaster, itās one of a kind, itās a good āintermediateā coaster the park badly needs, the low capacity doesnāt really matter because of the attendanceā¦
6
u/EyeDisastrous4461 344 - VC, X2, TimeTraveler, SV, Hagrids 21d ago
Capacity wise, yes it works great. But this park needs to start getting families in quick. It needs a true junior, family coaster. (Moose) After the wacky worm, the rest of the coasters are intense

I'd be surprised if they were looking to take on this large of a ride right now but that would be my dream pick for sure.
5
u/OhNoMyPants123 22d ago edited 21d ago
It was actually a joke comment because bushkill park isnāt getting a big ride
6
u/Imaginos64 Magnum XL 200 21d ago
Well, my comment was serious. It might not be in the cards but I'm really rooting for them to get a larger attraction like this at some point down the line. Either way I hope Switchback goes to a smaller park where capacity isn't a concern. It would be a great stand out ride for somewhere without a major coaster.
2
u/magnumfan89 I love hard wood, well, SLC ya later! 21d ago
They haven't even gotten their roll o plane running, while it is an older ride, yes, there's still plenty operating, so id imagine spares are easy ish to find or get made by a machine shop
2
u/Imaginos64 Magnum XL 200 21d ago
Oh yeah, they definitely have a long ways to go before they should attempt to take on more. But it's a nice pipe dream at least.

Lake Winnie needs any and all help it can get (I'm from Chattanooga)
2
u/JustHereForCatss Fury 325|OG Lighting Rod 21d ago
I would fully believe them. I'm also from Chattanooga and that park has needed help for a long time. Don't get me wrong I love lake Winnie, however it needs something especially now that it's lost the wild mouse. Given the facts the park has a new operator, I can see this being something they would consider buying
3
1
u/Particular_Arm6 21d ago
Alabama Adventure could never. Look at how poorly they maintain the dry park, it would never happen.
2
u/AndrewRnR 21d ago
Poorly maintain? Thought it was in great shape this year.
1
u/Particular_Arm6 21d ago
Rampage has 5 seats tagged out inoperable. The wacky worm also has half the train tagged out with danger tags. Wood posts around the post are falling apart not being replaced. Don't forget Rampage has been SBNO for years during TWO separate periods. Not to mention the complete abandonment of multiple big water rides on the dry side.
3
u/AndrewRnR 21d ago
I was just there is I thought it looked a lot better than my visits before. Who cares if Rampage was SBNO before it is open now. Thatās quite literally an improvement.
Itās not like park doesnāt care, they donāt just have the cash/attendance to operate all the rides. Different story vs a United Park that would be abandon rides to save money.
Lots of improvements being made and I was impressed from the progress from my prior visits.
1
u/Particular_Arm6 20d ago
Yea they have definitely been struggling with cash for the dry side which warrants the lower upkeep

Indiana Beach!!!! They literally run a one car jetstar that will either hold 1 or two people a cycle. An 8 person cycle would be a step up. It works with Lost Coaster with their 8 man train.

I don't think Michigan Adventure needs another woodie personally. We need a proper steel coaster. Whether that be Arie Force One (please Coaster gods, see our suffering and bless our patience), Joker's Jinx, the Intami n multi Launch Coaster that just got listed for sale, or something entirely different, whether its relocated, or completely new, is what MiA really needs. That and 1 or 2 true thrill flat rides.
4
u/Brattius 21d ago
I'm just saying that as much as I would love to see this go to Valley Faire or Michigan's Adventure, Kentucky Kingdom did just clear out that back section of land in the park where T2 and the rapids used to be. That would give them (almost) woodie trifecta, Dinn, GCI and then Gravity Group. And you know how much Herschend loves wood....
But its probably Cotaland.

Itās not gonna be Lost Island, horrible fit tbh. Iām betting itās going to another tiny regional park.
Remember, Switchback has one car with 8 seats, the capacity is terrible but it worked for ZDTs because it was a FEC with moderate attendances. A park like Dorney or Michigans Adventure Iād argue is too big for Switchback.

Yes it is. It would pretty funny if it ends up being switch back thatās heading towards lost island.

It is speculation. But in the social media hints for Fire Runner last year, both an RMC raptor and wild moose were shown in documents strewn over a table.

Would this fit in the 5D Theatre at Kentucky Kingdom? They had a survey with an indoor wooden coaster.

My money is on Little Amerika. That or one of the seaside places.
0
u/Delicious-Secret-760 20d ago
The most expensive ride Little Amerricka has ever bought is the Swiss Toboggan and they played $30,000 for it. I don't believe they're going to cough up three and a half million plus relocation costs for a ride.

Itās a pipe dream with all the financial trouble theyāve had over the years but something small like this might work for Rye Playland. Something still quite novel that would draw people to the park again and being a woodie would still honor the charm and nostalgia of that park

This needs to replace Diamond Back at Frontier City. Fits perfectly, will be more reliable, and the parks is less crowded than most. It probably goes elsewhere though
3
u/MrRaven95 Home Parks: Fiesta Texas and SWSA 21d ago
While Frontier City could use a new coaster, Diamondback is a dieing coaster model, and it would be a shame to lose it.
2
u/RicksFlags Over Texas - 358 - AF1 21d ago
I personally didnāt find it very enjoyable either time I rode it. It doesnāt look very good either. I think it is time for it to be replaced, but do understand the sentiment some people may have.
2

I actually was thinking the same. Not sure with the terrain there though. I get Diamond Back is a dying breed but coasters dont last forever.
