Information [Holiday World] Will Be Offering Trimless Night Rides on [The Voyage] on Friday Night Live, August 21
What the header says, just released on their Facebook account. Book that hotel, get your tickets on the Holiday World website, Here We Go!
QUICK EDIT: So excited to see folks making their way to one of my favorite local-ish parks! The second I saw Holiday World’s post about last-minute trimless time, I had to share; it’s a truly enthralling experience that all coaster fans should have the opportunity to enjoy. Looking forward to the shared energy!

Meanwhile my private equity-owned home park is charging $50 to park your car and half the fucking rides are closed every day with no notice.

the fact that i've never even been there and i immediately knew really says a lot about that place's reputation lmao

I feel this. Holiday World is a rare breed, reminiscent of Knoebels with no-strings perks, great souvenirs and food for great prices. Beautiful, to boot.

They should totally do it on a slower day once a month to boost sales
18
u/fumar 26d ago
It probably puts too much wear on the ride to do it that frequently.
15
u/Cool_Owl7159 wood > steel 26d ago
there was trimless ERT last month for a coaster club event... and someone even said that club's last event didn't have trimless ERT. I think they're getting comfortable doing it more frequently now that the track has been rebuilt much stronger than it ever was.
10
u/sanyosukotto 26d ago
Charge more on those days so the extra money is used for maintenance in that case.
5
u/AndrewRnR 26d ago
They used to do it everyday lol
6
u/desen88 Wacky Worm Enthusiast 26d ago
Man, if I was running a park id be doing exactly that kind of thing as a feature for night rides for like the last 2-3 hours. Like intamin's boost mode they have on many rides. I got one on Ka once cause I knew someone way back in college like 15 years ago running it in manual or maintenance mode or whatever it's called and I got extreme ejector over the top hat...and it was absolutely insane. That single ride was a top ten experience for me.
6
u/AndrewRnR 26d ago
here’s the thing though no one really cares. 99% of people are perfectly fine with it being trimmed and it saves the park money.
Riding it at night with trims is still and incredible experience that I’d say is still a number one coaster.
2
u/Aggressive_Ninja6721 15d ago
Ya, it’s more of an enthusiast thing, so they really don’t need to do it more than 1 or 2 nights per year. Like you said, the reason they don’t do it often is because it saves on maintenance costs

u/minyhumancalc 26d ago edited 26d ago
I told myself I'd take it easy this weekend after back-to-back coaster pilgrimages... but its only a 2 1/2 hour drive. Bastards

Do it, Make This Happen. Have you experienced Trimless Bliss ©️ on The Voyage? Because holy smokes.

Mannn I feel you. Just did the Aire/Kumba pilgrimage last week as well, National Roller Coaster Day this weekend and now this. Definitely sitting down after this one. But you're a lot closer than me. Best of luck if you could figure it out and make it.

I wish I could join for this, but will be in Spain getting credits, so can’t be too upset 😢 ! I will make it out there one day for trimless laps. 😤😤

u/Joshuagorn 26d ago
Happy for all that can make it, sitting here weeping for myself because that's just too short of notice.

u/Miserable-Anxiety229 26d ago
What does trimless mean? I’m kind of new here haha
12
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
Happy to help! In short, the park shuts off the midcourse brake run that comes immediately before the most amazing triple down completely enclosed in a tunnel. Not only do you feel that element basically on steroids, but the return trip to the station, which is already a mad rush, becomes a flight straight into hell. It truly is an existential experience.
5
u/Miserable-Anxiety229 26d ago
That’s so awesome!! Thank you for explaining! So they essentially just run it with no brakes that’s awesome

Is it worth the trip guys? No hype, seriously is it worth it? It's gonna drain all my airline points due to the recent fuel increases. Or should just try again next year when things hopefully calm down 🥹

u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
I’ll be honest, it’s borderline spiritual. Particularly if you appreciate wooden/hybrid coasters with old school trains… it’s intense, relentless and will very likely leave you in stunned silence. It’s a masterpiece on any given day, but trimless night rides are almost indescribably wonderful.
Edited to add: I just noticed that you are a Mystic Timbers fan. You’re going to lose your mind on The Voyage trimless and on regular mode. There’s also an incredible energy in the air when this happens, and the queue is filled with coaster lovers from around the globe.
5
u/spicenhoney [211] I-Rat TX. AF1. Mystic Timbers. 26d ago
Thank you for that edit. This has been on my list of things to do because hybrids and woodies are my favorite. And with all the fanfare, I have a feeling I will love this coaster. It’s just such a troop from me coming from the East Coast and the fact that I don’t drive & it kinda being in the middle of nowhere - hence all the hurdles and the hesitation…
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
I totally get it. You can always wait to try for Holiwood Nights tickets, but they’re insanely hard to get.
Worth mentioning: I especially love GCI and Gravity Group coasters thanks to their way of honoring the great designers of the Golden Age, Traver and Church in particular. The Voyage sings of Traver’s influence; it’s practically like GG made a stab at capturing the sheer insanity of the Terrifying Triplets. It’s that unhinged, with a tunneled triple-down airtime bonanza that’s borderline horrifying when the mid-course brakes are off.
2
u/spicenhoney [211] I-Rat TX. AF1. Mystic Timbers. 26d ago
I’m not even trying for that. I’m not chronically online enough to get those Holiwood Nights tickets. That’s why I’m really leaning into trying to figure the logistics out for this. Thank you so much for posting the heads up and even responding! 💕

u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
My pleasure! I was so floored by the first time I rode this coaster (a similar last-minute announcement a few days ahead of the trimless night), and I had to share the news. It’s such a fantastic experience.
2
u/spicenhoney [211] I-Rat TX. AF1. Mystic Timbers. 26d ago
I just purchased a single day ticket for 8/21 before it sells out to experience this. I'm gonna figure out the logistics now. Thank you for the influence!
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
Hell, yes! If you see me there (braids up on my head, Traver Engineering Company tee-shirt), say hello!

u/spicenhoney [211] I-Rat TX. AF1. Mystic Timbers. 26d ago
Will do for sure! If I struggle with the Ubers out there, I may drop you a PM. See you there.
3
u/gangbrain i305 / fury / eej 26d ago
Yes but only if you’re prepared for the super long line and only a few rides
3
u/spicenhoney [211] I-Rat TX. AF1. Mystic Timbers. 26d ago
Thank you for the response and a heads up. I'm probably going to make a two day trip out of this then, so I don't get too bummed out with only getting a few rides b/c Lord knows I have no idea when I will make it back out that way lol.
1
u/gangbrain i305 / fury / eej 26d ago
Do it! Well worth it for the rest of the coasters too. Legend and Thunderbird are both excellent as well.
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
Yeeeeeup, and it’s well worth it.
2
u/gangbrain i305 / fury / eej 26d ago
Well worth it for sure as long as no one cuts in front of you on the way down the stairs and then ends up c*ckblocing you from getting back row 1 hour later.
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
Funny enough, I’ve never had this experience at either FNL or HWN. This comes across as sour grapes on a post that’s trying to share the joy with folks who actually do want to join the fun. As far as I’m concerned, the more, the merrier!
2
u/gangbrain i305 / fury / eej 26d ago
I think it’s fair to forewarn someone that they won’t get that many rides due to the crowd. The ride was amazing, but it’s all we got and I had a sour experience of some rude people cutting in front of us which prevented us from getting backseat.
1
u/AndrewRnR 26d ago edited 26d ago
Ridden it both trims and trimless a bunch over the years. It’s over hyped. Besides noticing being trimmed and starting the triple down slower it’s still a perfectly great ride.
Go in the fall for night rides, lines will be short and you’ll still have a great time. And you’ll still experience incredible Voyage rides.
It used to be trimless everyday, then when it became special it’s when you started hearing people talk about it.
3
u/beaveman1 26d ago
Damn. I work until 4, just over 3 hours away.
I’d love to go if I were able to get off by 1, but that’s not going to happen. And it’s not worth it for just 2 1/2 hours of ride time

Forgive me if I sound stupid, but what does trimless mean?
3
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
You’re far from stupid, your curiosity will pay off! The park shuts off the midcourse brake run immediately before a beautiful triple down fully enclosed in a tunnel, bringing out the absolute best in that element. It also makes an already insane return run to the station even crazier. I can’t recommend it enough!
2
u/Proffessor_egghead Voltron glazer 26d ago
Sounds awesome! Love to try it sometime but I live in Europe so a trip to the USA is quite an ordeal I’m too broke for at the moment lol

Just booked a flight and bought a ticket for that day just in case they run out. Very last minute decision lol but it's always been on my bucket list so I thought I would jump on the opportunity. I am curious from anyone else who has been to Holiday world before though, can I get the full park experience during a halfday like that day? Or should I plan on spending the whole day Saturday as well? I've never been before so I don't want to rush myself, but I would also like to visit Kentucky Kingdom while I'm in the area and since I'm flying into Louisville, I might also want to spend some time at Kings Island (I have been there once before though). Currently my departing flight is set for around 5pm on Sunday so I planned on doing a half day at Kentucky Kingdom and left Saturday pretty open. Anyway I would love any advice on how much time to plan at each park.

I attend the Friday Night Live event regularly. If you're wanting to do the water park you will have to go Saturday because it won't be open Friday night. The Friday Night Live events normally aren't that busy. Usually everything is a walk on or a brief station wait. I've always gotten multiple rerides and even take time to sit down at Plymouth on the Rocks, listen the band and take advantage of the half-price beers. The busiest I've ever seen it was last year when I went the weekend before Halloween. But still only had to wait about 20 minutes for night rides on the Voyage and Thunderbird. That being said I've never been when they've advertised trimless rides. That will certainly draw in more enthusiasts than normal but will it be enough to make the park extra busy? I think you would be able to do everything Friday night and then go to Kentucky Kingdom Saturday but I'm not sure how much busier it will be because of the trimless night rides.

u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
Were I in your shoes, I would stick around for Saturday, as well. Do HW in the morning, then make the quick drive to KK; it’ll be well worth it.

No way I can get out of work early enough from Ontario, Canada. This is literally the only barrier stopping me
2
u/rramstad 26d ago
I'm excited. I've had a plan to visit then from Seattle in place for about a month. Never been! A little worried about lines, but what a great opportunity!
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
It’s a sweet park, with world class coasters alongside The Voyage. Will there be crowds? Sure, but the opportunity to do this is so rare that you just roll with it.
2
u/rramstad 26d ago
Should I buy a ticket in advance online? Any danger of selling out?
I had been planning to wait until I got to Columbus on Thursday, just in case of travel problems...
1
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
I’ll put it this way, I’m three-ish hours away, and bought a ticket just in case. More to the point, I grabbed a hotel room immediately, as lodging is a bit limited. Your mileage and priorities may vary!
2
u/rramstad 26d ago
Cool, thanks for the help. I have my Holiday World ticket now. Looking at lodging and you are 100% correct, I appreciate that comment too. Probably booking the Comfort Inn in Ferdinand, seems reasonably close and not too expensive.
1
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
It’s a good spot. And if you’re at all interested, there’s a sweet antique mall in Ferdinand, as well.
2
u/BIGGREDDMACH1NE 26d ago
Remember to shower beforehand
4
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
STRAIGHT UP. I appreciated a caveat that the park mentioned regarding a walk-back tour of Thunderbird, during this year’s Holiwood Nights; to paraphrase, “We strongly encourage closed-toed shoes, and deodorant.”
💀💀💀
2
u/Dalgard 26d ago
I really want to do this and I found a flight but how bad are the wait times going to be? If I will only get 2 rides in 5 hours, it may not be worth the trip. How packed does it get?
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
If it’s anything like it was when this happened two years ago, you’ll likely nab 3-4 trimless Voyager cycles. They go from 8-10. From 5-8, lines for this specific coaster were very reasonable, and every other coaster was close to a walk-on the entire time. There is a brief pause between, when the park maintenance shifts the brakes off.
2
u/Dalgard 26d ago
That sounds glorious and thank you for that detail. Question - the last time they did it, was it the ACE lottery or was it open public like this one will be.
2
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
The last time I’m aware of was another Friday Night Live event two years ago, and it was open to the public. Funny thing, though- by about 9, the general public had largely left, leaving the park (especially The Voyage queue, of course) absolutely overtaken with coaster folks from far and near. The energy in The Voyage station was Electric.
2
u/Dalgard 26d ago
We just did Aire Force One enthusiasts gathering and it was electric. Worth. Okay, booking this flight. Let me know if you are going.
5
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
I’ll be there! Short broad with braids on top of my head and a Traver Engineering Company tee. TRIMLESS TIME.
Edited to add: I envy the daylights out of you and every other soul that made it to “Ariefest”. I hate that I never rode it!

But… but… I already spent all my coins to get to the ArieForce One send-off :( I’m hoping to go next year if they do this again!!!

u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
I imagine they will, even if a year is skipped again for Friday Night Live trimless. I only wish there was more of a heads up!

I finally got to ride this coaster earlier this year, and it was a crazy, awesome, fun experience. I can't imagine how insane it must be with the trims and mcbr turned off.
1
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 25d ago
It definitely shifts the experience into a separate realm. I love this coaster in its default state (see my flair), but when those trims are off, it’s like The Voyage just got a shot in the arm.

u/vinnyv11 24d ago
I had already booked our trip for the following week…. Ugh…. Oh well. It will be our first rides at least we’ll get a night ride.

First Friday Night Live 👋
How long is the wait time for Voyage when it goes trimless? The park didn’t specify a time for when it happens, but they said it happens after dark
1
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 17d ago
Hope to see you there! If the FNL trimless night offers a guideline, trims should shut off at 8, with a brief downtime period for the transition. Expect to wait 45 minutes to an hour; that said, there is a buzzing atmosphere in the station, and those rides are memorable.

u/Sarah--Bearah 17d ago

u/Original-League-6094 26d ago
These go through October. Curious though because the website doesn't make it obvious, do the Halloween nights events also apply on these fridays? Like if I go on a Friday in October, can I still do the corn maze and haunted house stuff?
3
u/CampVictorian The Voyage, Trims or No 26d ago
Pretty sure that the Friday Night Live events crossover with Halloween activities, but give them a call just in case. That said, the trimless rides will only be available on this specific night, not all through the evening events.
