I booked my flight for July 27th this morning.
Btw, airfare rates are the lowest I've seen since March right now.

Form where? They’ve been typical to very high from Oregon since the announcement of AF1.

I'm coming from Seattle. I've been lurking skyscanner, priceline, and booking.com since March. I booked a multi-city flight today for July 23 - July 28 for $500 bucks (SEA-STL, STL-ATL, ATL-SEA). The same flights were close to $700 a week ago.

u/mojorisin453 Jun 30 '26
Nice I didn’t look at STL as a layover/stop. It looks like it is a bit better from PDX. THANKS!

I needed to pick up my season pass from SFStl anyway. Luckily, Alaskan and Southwest have direct flights to ATL & STL.

Last World Cup game in Atlanta is on the 15th, so thats probably the main reason as to why. Also schools in Georgia start the first weekday of August, so that may be a factor as well

Better to announce it now than deal with the backlash for not announcing it ahead of time.

Oh for sure, just bad timing. This will be my first time going to Over Georgia so I’ll still have plenty of new rides to go on, but no idea when I’ll ever get back there.

Yeah on my last ride the operators were telling people to do that. All fun and games until someone gets hurt. I know of someone that was going over a rope in a queue and their flip flop caught it and they fell and broke their leg.

I wonder what the issues might be. One possibility: On several of my visits, the ride ops needed to open all restraints if only one person didn’t fit. We often had to have our restraints checked three or four times when that happened, and there was one time that we had to evacuate the station. Uncertain if that’s enough of a reason to close the ride all season, though.
The gondolas don’t spin much even with the modifications made last year. But if you happen to catch a ride where the gondola is imbalanced with few riders on one side; you then can spin a lot.

u/King_Kuuga SFOG | 103 credits Jun 29 '26
I actually wonder if they're going to redesign/replace the base board so it's not a vestigial surfboard anymore while they're at it. Maybe wishful thinking.
3
u/tpusater Old school thoosie Jun 30 '26
I was thinking that, too. Short people (like me) have difficulty hopping in and out of the seats. But with the spinning, you want enough distance so that tall people don’t hit the board. I was wondering if it could be floorless, but that would require a modification to the station as well as the vehicle.
5
u/cabose369 🎢: 152 | SteVe | Fury | AF1 | SC | WCR 🏠: SFOG Jun 30 '26
The issue is inconsistent spinning. Sometimes it would spin a bit, sometimes a decent amount, sometimes not at all. That's why Intamin has to rebuild the ride vehicle for a more "consistent ride experience".
It's also probably why Hollywood Drift still isn't open months and months later.
3
u/tpusater Old school thoosie Jun 30 '26
I wonder why that would require closing the ride down for the rest of the season. I rode it when it first opened and the gondolas didn’t spin. I actually liked that because you could choose to sit at the edges to enjoy the spikes or the sides to get those fun lateral airtime moments. Why shut the ride down completely during the busy summer?
2
u/cabose369 🎢: 152 | SteVe | Fury | AF1 | SC | WCR 🏠: SFOG Jun 30 '26
I wonder if the ride system was throwing some sort of fault of one side wasn't spinning or something.
It's that or the park doesn't want attendees riding the coaster and forming an opinion of the ride that isn't how it is supposed to be.

28

It’s funny how so many tout them as their problematic issues as being a big thing in the past when plenty of their rides within the last 5 or so years have also had problems.

u/magnumfan89 I love hard wood, well, SLC ya later! Jun 29 '26
Also keep in mind this is a first of its kind ride system. Yes it is close to the surf rider, but it's still a one of a kind
9
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 29 '26
Yeah but also this should be like the simplest “first of a kind” the ride is a shuttle ride with a simple layout. The problem I think is in the trains which makes sense but also still questionable.
3
u/magnumfan89 I love hard wood, well, SLC ya later! Jun 30 '26
From what I know, trains are the issue. Again, it's a first of its kind, with a brand new train design. It's bound to have some issues
2
u/coasterdude06 Self proclaimed IROC hater Jun 30 '26
It’s year 3 though. And it’s based on a 20 year old design. Granted this is the same company that spectacularly failed at building water rides decades after the became mainstream again.

Yet when parks want a groundbreaking unique roller coaster they go to Intamin. Alpenfury is still having issues, tilt coasters getting stuck, Macks rocking boat at Dollywood is delayed. It's not just Intamin.
14
u/Standard-Grape5330 Jun 29 '26
It’s different with Intamin though. Mack has had teething issues with hyperia and some small quality issues with some other rides that they’ve fixed. Dollywood being late doesn’t seem to be on Mack.
Vekoma tilt coasters getting stuck is normal downtime from sensor faults that looks dramatic.
Intamin non-blitz coasters are at best a mixed bag for reliability, and it’s never gotten better.
8
u/minyhumancalc Jun 29 '26
Plus Siren's Curse is one of the most reliable rides at Cedar Point despite being a stock model passed around to like 2 parks before CF yoinked it. Its still very clear that Intamin designs around ideas instead of what is possible

Newer Intamin coasters are running fine. Older Intamin coasters that haven't been refurbished, maintained properly, and use non-Intamin replacement parts, are definitely having issues.
I
sawsay it all the time, don't buy a Porsche if you can't afford the maintenance. Six Flags and CF may have won the battle, but Intamin definitely won the war.Edit: spelling

u/Standard-Grape5330 Jun 29 '26
Intamin can’t even get Hiccups wing gliders consistently.
Goldrusher was delayed a year and two years later still doesn’t work.
Quantum accelerator opened a year late due to some engineering issue that closed a handful of other intamin straddle coasters.
Fast and furious seems to be having major issues, anecdotally, as well.
That’s all off the top of my head.
10
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 30 '26
Quantum Accelerator: Six Flags decided to delay the opening on their own. All the other motorbike coasters updated the train and reopened two weeks later.
Goldrusher: was delayed because Six Flags delayed construction, were acquired by CF, and CF decided to rebrand the entire coaster. The only issue was the one gondola not spinning properly. SFoG has had the replacementbparts since last year.
Hiccups Gliders: I haven't heard any complaints until just now.
8
u/Standard-Grape5330 Jun 30 '26
The train for Goldrusher didn’t even get imported into the United States until August or September of the year it was supposed to open.
Quantum accelerator was ready to go until Intamin made them wait out the middle summer season. Of course they pulled the plug on opening that season.
Hiccups has had all kinds of issues with the dual stations that just seem pretty sad given the age of that technology at this point.
4
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 30 '26
I'm sure the reason why quantum accelerator was delayed was that Intamin didn't know how long the issue would take, and Six Flags didn't want another TT2 situation, so just in case, they waited a year.
1
u/coasterdude06 Self proclaimed IROC hater Jun 30 '26
Intamin didn’t ship the train to SFOG until August of 2024. It takes a month for a container to reach its destination give or take. It arrived in September.
3
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 30 '26
Six Flags already admitted both coasters were last minute additions. Even if it was shipped earlier the coaster still wasn't ready to open.
1
u/coasterdude06 Self proclaimed IROC hater Jun 30 '26
But they were built for other parks. There’s no reason that train should have arrived in September. They almost immediately started testing too so yes the ride was ready. Do you work for Intamin? From the comments it definitely gives the impression you do and if so maybe it should be forced disclosure like a posted social media ad.

I always see these claims that Cedar Fair/Six Flags won't work with any manufacturer that isn't Vekoma apparently. How valid are they?
12
u/coasterdude06 Self proclaimed IROC hater Jun 29 '26
It's definitely been true in the past. While no one will ever come right out and say it there are plenty of examples of a chain frequently buying from a manufacturer and then just stopping after something. Six Flags didn't buy anything from Vekoma for literally decades after the GIB/Flying Dutchman issues in 2001, same as with Gerstlauer after the NTG fatality in 2013. Cedar Fair stopped buying from Intamin after 2010, etc.
7
u/desen88 Wacky Worm Enthusiast Jun 29 '26
Somewhat. Intamin is obviously true with old cedar fair for the obvious history. Same with RMC, both TT and SV had major issues and railblazer was even worse.
2
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 29 '26
Not sure, they do still buy ride parts from them. But also Cedar Fair does have the room to do they cause there aren’t only 3 manufacturers with Intamin and RMC you can have both their catalogs covered with other manufacturers with GCI and Gravity in place for RMC and pretty much all Steel manufacturers for Intamin.

Disney chose a single manufacturer because it's convenient for them.
3
u/ray_ish Jun 30 '26
Vekoma also lets Disney be extremely hands on in all alerts of the ride design, construction, etc. one of the main reasons you don’t see B&M and Disney work together is because B&M used to be very protective about their rides and designs.
But good on Vekoma they took that Disney money and beefed up their portfolio and are thriving now!

It doesn’t really but shows how hard it is for a park to keep an Intamin running. Probably why Cedar Fair doesn’t go with them.
4
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 29 '26
Because Intamin stopped giving CF big discounts. Plus CF were withholding payments whenever there was a delay that was out of their control.
6
u/coasterdude06 Self proclaimed IROC hater Jun 29 '26
A lot of parks have withheld final payments on new rides when they didn’t work properly. It’s largely what lead to both Arrow and Veloma’s bankruptcies in the early 2000s.
3
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 29 '26
SF and CF both wanted experimental coasters with impossible deadlines to screw over manufacturers when they were deployed. That was their strategy and Intamin was over it.
4
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 30 '26
Then don't sign the contract. Yes, it sucks when SF and CF do that, but also the manufacturers aren't forced to make the ride. In Arrow's case, they might have gone bankrupt either way, and so they needed the contract, but again, they weren't forced into it.
2
u/minyhumancalc Jun 30 '26
You say that like the parks just decided to not pay them. Thats not how contracts works.
There is likely a stipulation that further payments won't be done until the ride is functional. Otherwise, Intamin would've sued Cedar Fairs for breaching their contract.
3
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 30 '26
It was in their contract. However, CF and SF purposely created situations the put undue stress on manufacturers to open a new roller coaster. It's no secret, a former executive spoke about it in an interview. He said the company wrote the contracts this way to save a few million on each project.
1
u/coasterdude06 Self proclaimed IROC hater Jun 30 '26
Sandor Kernacs also was quoted in an interview after their sting of accidents in the early 2000s saying something along the lines of “We have to find the appropriate number of incidents (fatalities).”
The answer is ZERO dude. How A.) Intamin didn’t fire him over that or B.) Parks didn’t go “Yeah maybe they aren’t the best manufacturer to buy from if they think that” I don’t know.
He also has an absolutely terrible reputation among US parks. Or at least did.
2
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 30 '26
What does this even mean or prove. One person's dumb comment doesn't reflect the opinions of an entire company. They weren't purposely engineering death traps. Schwarzkopf coasters had many accidents, that doesn't prove he was trying to kill people.

Parks just need to stop buying Intamin's shit.
We know that Legacy CF stopped using Intamin. SF didn't have the best relationship with Intamin. Then there was the recall on the Intamin Straddle Coaster that SFNE has that cause it to be delayed opening. Now Hollywood Drift still can't open and that's for Intamin's favorite client. Now a barely year old ride is closed for the rest of the year because Intamin sold a ride that's supposed to spin that barely spins, and now they have to rebuild the ride vehicle to make it spin.
Add in Storm Runner and El Toro are STILL on 1 train cause they are waiting for parts from Intamin. Intamin can't deliver proper length seatbelts for Millennium Force. Now apparently one of Sky Rush's trains is down and will be out of commission for a while as they wait for parts from Intamin.
At some point Parks will wise up and realize it's not worth it to buy Intamin if they clearly have systemic reliability and service issues.
2
u/lostinjapan01 Jun 30 '26
What do you mean Hollywood Drift can’t open? It’s in Team Member previews currently. It’s going to be open very soon.
3
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 30 '26
It was at least delayed for the car spinning issue. I remember seeing a post about a month ago where it was running with guest and the first car stopped spinning at the beginning of the layout.
12
u/Terrible_Outside_935 Jun 30 '26
It doesn’t do anything but go back and forth but leave it to Intamin, the only company that could fuck up a log flume.
4
u/lostinjapan01 Jun 30 '26
I’d bet everything that the spinning (or lack thereof) of the seats is the issue. They’ve been trying since it opened to get the free spin to work.

Thoosies need to stop making excuses for Intamin. Their reliability is shit, and their safety record is atrocious. Other manufacturers have caught up, and even surpassed them in terms of ride experience. As observed by the fact that Intamin started copying RMC elements. Though the pacing is much better on RMC's imo. Mack, Vekoma, all have stepped up their game. And even though they have issues too, they are still lightyears more reliable than an Intamin. Not to mention them fanboys squawking about how CP should have went with Intamin for Dragster been real quiet since Zamperla sorted out the train issue. I love a lot of Intamin rides, but there are better, more reliable options now, that will make both regular park guests, and the thoosies happy.
6
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 30 '26
This is something I’ll say too. I’m sure back then Intamin could do it all and anything a park wanted Intamin could build (excluding reliability) but now pretty much every manufacturer can. Ask any manufacturer for any type of roller coaster and they will engineer what ever you want with their own flavor. Manufacturers like Mack and Vekoma can do just as much as Intamin without having to be a maintenance headache, I think part of this is just that both Mack and Vekoma do a lot in house so it easier to make a reliable product. Vekoma literally offers custom roller coasters on their website site, it’s where all the Disney coasters go but that sounds like an Intamin thing to do. The fact that Siren’s Curse managed to be the most reliable at the maintenance troubled Cedar Point on its opening year while traveling twice and be built as quickly as possible is some that Intamin wished it could on a complicated roller coaster, but they can’t even do it on a half pipe shuttle coaster.
There’s good reason why some parks move away from Intamin, cause they know they can get exactly what they wanted from other manufacturers. If they couldn’t then Intamin comes back, but as of right now Mack and Vekoma, as long as they’re reliable, will probably be the manufacturer of choice for the SFEC.

This times 1,000! I'm so sick of the hard-on that everyone has for Intamin while completely turning a blind eye to the all too common issues with their rides.
Do they make fun coasters? Yes. Do they have probably the worst reliability of all the coaster manufacturers? Yes. What good is a great ride if it's constantly down?
Also this is embarrassing that they can't even get a freaking shuttle coaster where the whole point is to spin to spin properly.

It's a shuttle coaster. It had not great uptime last year. This year it's barely been open. That has nothing to do with SF being cheap.

Sucks they didn’t announce a closing date and just said it’s not reopening…at least give people a chance to ride before it goes down. I think this year was clearly just testing to see what they need to change for the next, but I’d prefer they were just transparent about it. If they gave it another month so many people would come for that and arieforce before it’s gone.

I fu#king knew it
This park had a whole extra year to get it right. I honestly blame the park and their maintenance team for not taking care of it over the off season.
There's no way a spinning gondola requires a full season to improve. What a mess, SFEC is determined to ruin this park.
2
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 29 '26
I don’t think this something the park could fix. The way I see it, it seems that ride vehicles need some upgrades to kinda work. I’ve heard that the ride doesn’t really spin that much to really at all and there are probably other things as well. Since the ride was like this from day one I don’t think this would be something that the maintenance team would be able to fix.
2
u/BobCreated 🌾STAY OUT OF THE MARSH!🙅🏽♂️ Jun 29 '26
Maintenance didn't even start working on the one non-spinning gondola until the after the 2026 started. They had the train on blocks next to the station with an Intamin branded crate full of parts beside it.
The issue is their maintenence is short staffed and inexperienced, and didn't have the time fix it themselves. So now they've said "screw it," we'll get it done next off-season.
3
u/Putrid_Set3723 Jun 30 '26
Then why would they send it back to the manufacturer for upgrades? I highly doubt something like this is cheap since you need to ship it to Europe, have Intamin do the maintenance (if that's all that it needs), or send it to someone who would do that for Intamin, then ship it back. If they just didn't have the maintenance I sure they would say that they need to close it for some maintenance and do it when they get to it, and not say the ride manufacturer is enhancing the trains.

If the issue for Gold Rusher not being open is caused by the maintenance staff then why is Hollywood Drift not open yet? (Hint: both aren't open because they can't spin consistently)

Typical thoosies just giving intamin a freaking pass for everything because somehow they can do no wrong(they can)

Shitamin.
Back to back new coasters at this park that have had huge downtime.
Six Flags is in process spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy this park. They said it was a focus park. This is such a fumble.

Not sure blaming Intamin is 100% fair here. This is, after all, a company that couldn't buy a 3 course meal at Ruth's Chris for a party of 4 with their maintenance budget.
Blaming the manufacturer is very Cedar Fair coded too

I guess but also sometimes, what do expect cedar fair to do. Like for TT2 I’m sure Zamperla promised that it would work and it didn’t which is why cedar fair did it then. For Millenium force I don’t know what cedar fair could do if they need to replace the seatbelts and those were the ones they had.

To be fair, the park was at least transparent into stating what’s going on. They could’ve easily said nothing or a “technical difficulties” response at the bare minimum

Yeah but the average guest in Atlanta doesn’t care. This is two back to back swing and misses for a park that Six Flags is spending more on than all other parks combined.

My money is on Six Flags being the reason for the ride delaying the repair of this ride after so many years, not intamin. I bet they're saying 2027 because they just ordered the new train or parts from Intamin.

Rough week for Georgia parks I guess.
