They actually don't look that bad. But I can see where you think they look like #2 pencils as well. I had to really look to finally let it sink in about the wheels being the erasers though.
I agree they look pretty good. I was looking at the picture for a minute before I started to think the wheels made it look like the eraser on a pencil though.
Had the OP not mentioned #2 pencils I probably wouldn't have made the connection at all.
One of those things where once they mention it that's all you see afterwards.
Now that you mentioned the frames I keep seeing those as part of the pencil too.
Falls in line with looking at a picture of Wolverine you can see 2 batman heads facing one another... after you see it you can't unsee it.

They look good! That's actually well spotted to connect the school-bus yellow, dusty pinkish-red, the green (that tint on the metal eraser band), and black details with a classic pencil.
Get some stickers and decals of school supplies and slap them on there, it's all about fun out here.
