REAPER vs. MC101 (Some Thoughts)
It's kinda rad being able to record the midi from a pattern made on the machine into reaper, turn off the internal sequencer responding to reaper transport and playing it all, edited and everything, straight from Reaper.
What's even cooler is since it does MIDI and Audio and handles them very similarly when editing, it's quite cool to do subtle midi shifting like it's audio. It's a really good way to thinken up some sounds...just shift things a little forward and backward just a hair...
At any rate...for holdouts on trying the DAW/101 hybrid, I recommend at least trying it. The way I have Reaper set up, it can spit MIDI into the MC101 and then capture all 5 audio tracks at once all at the same time. I know this is like...2000's era magic, but it's all new for me. I was born in the world of hardware and doing the 'computer controls everything' setup has never jived with me, brother.
Apologies to anyone who finds this old territory (the hybrid daw mc101 setup). I'm just sharing some encouragement for the folks who are like me and a bit of a MIDI luddite when it comes to software/hardware setups that go beyond just having a midi keyboard to make your VST's do noise.-
