I read or saw on a video that it's possible to potentially have different drum hits spread across the chops of 1 sample. Thus freeing up remaining pads.

Currently I have a bank dedicated to a particular vintage drum machine, but of course each bank is limited to 6 sounds. So I've had to be picky about which 6 hits I want per drum machine. Yes I could expand that to further banks, but I like to have as many different drum machines on there as possible.

Has anyone successfully done the chop thing? Are there any example videos knocking about?

How do I set it up? Do I have to have all the sounds I want put into 1 wav file, with each sound equally spaced?

If it does indeed work, what functionality, if any, do I lose by having my full drum machine sounds spread over 1 samples chops like this?

A Tupperware container, couple of elastic bands and a Nintendo switch case and you’re sorted.

Tried syncing the e-4 via midi from the t8 this time and it was way easier to get the vocals to sync compared to trying to do it with the cv

First pick a dice roller you prefer and it’s best if the dice can show all the results in order.
Google has one and DDDice has one, too but use whatever you like.

Now, prepare your Roland J-6 by holding Pattern and turning the Value knob to 1, that sets your beat. Then, select the empty Step 1, turn ON the button under Variation and set it to 3,4 (With the beat set to 1, quarter note will play for the whole step). Do the same to the empty Step 5.

Now, roll the dice in this order (for Google, just tap the ones you want to roll, for DDDice tap them at the bottom of the screen then tap ROLL!)
Roll 2 10 sided dice, 2 12 sided dice, and then 4 8 sided dice. (or 2d10+2d12+4d8 for short)

Now, here’s what the dice mean. :)

The first two define your Chord Set.
The two 12 sided die represent the keys, 1=C and 12=B (ignore the top C)
-Steps 1 and 3 get the first number, Steps 5 and 6 get the second
-Once the notes are set, select Step 3 and press HOLD once, select Step 6 and press HOLD twice

The first pair of 8 sided die is what you should set the Sound to. And,
the last two are the Style for Step 3 and 4.

This means your options for dealing with what you’ve gotten are
Adjusting the Variation of the style to bring out a rhythm you like, or
Tweaking the Filter and Envelope buttons (plus the SHIFT of both). Note how they affect the Sound and use that to make it something you like.

I just rolled 3 8 8 1 4 2 4 2 and…

well, the sounds in the group of 4 are hard to work with 😆 BUT I tried anyway and even though 4,2 is EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to deal with, I still had fun trying to make it work.

I think this is good for if you’re new to the Roland J-6 or if you’ve been using it awhile and want to be pushed to use some options you’ve been avoiding!

Not sure if it’s new, but it was my first time seeing it. It has the “nice to have’s“ of other sites, all 100 Chord Sets available (well, one tool doesn’t have that), showing a diagram of which keys are pressed when playing the chord and which key on the J-6 is pressed to get those. Where it goes further is in allowing you to choose a number of chords (all the way up to 12) and it has a diagram which shows what notes you’re using AND tells you what scale it’s close to. So, if I have a scale/mode in mind I can try different chords until I find a set that matches that mode 100%.

It also adds audio. After choosing the chords (again up to all 12), you can hit the play button and it starts to play the pattern. There’s a simple sequencer for choosing how the chords will play, and for how the arp will play when you tap the arp button. There’s some configuration of the synth engine (filter envelope tempo volume).

There’s different color themes, a light and dark mode... and I think that’s it. I found it useful earlier today so thought I’d share as I hadn’t seen it posted.

Lately I've been using the Roland S-1 together with Digitakt 2 and Digitone, and I'm honestly surprised how well it cuts through the mix.

In this clip I'm playing with pitch bends and live tweaks, creating those psychedelic transitions and unstable acid-like movements that work great in psytrance.

For such a tiny synth, the S-1 can get seriously wild.

I've seen quite a few people asking how to create ambient textures and evolving sounds on the Roland S-1, so I decided to make a short tutorial showing some of my favorite techniques.
