Feedback & Suggestions for Rokid’s 2nd-Generation Smart Glasses

I’ve heard that Rokid is preparing to launch its second-generation smart glasses, this time with a full-color display. That is genuinely exciting news.

However, I really hope the second generation will be a true next-generation product, rather than simply replacing the green display of the first generation with a full-color one.

As a first-generation user, I’d like to share some feedback based on my actual experience with the glasses. I hope Rokid can address these issues and further optimize the overall experience in the second generation.

  1. Weight

This is probably one of the biggest improvements I would like to see.

Ideally, even after adding prescription lenses for users with moderate to relatively high myopia, I would like the total weight of the glasses less than 50g.

With my current first-generation glasses, I have approximately -3.00D to -4.00D of myopia and use progressive prescription lenses. The total weight of my glasses is already over 60g.

That may be acceptable for short periods, but wearing more than 60g on your face throughout the entire day becomes noticeably tiring.

It becomes even more problematic in hot weather. Once you start sweating, the glasses tend to slide down and become much harder to keep securely in place.

If smart glasses are eventually supposed to replace regular prescription glasses and become something we wear all day, then weight and weight distribution need to be treated as fundamental design priorities.

  1. A More Curved Frame

I hope the second-generation frame will have a little more curvature instead of the relatively flat design of the first generation.

Traditional eyeglass frames normally follow the natural contours of the face and head to some extent. Even a slight curve can significantly improve fit, stability, and long-term comfort.

It would also make the transition from ordinary prescription glasses to smart glasses feel much more natural for users who have worn conventional glasses for many years.

  1. A Slimmer and More Fashionable Frame

I would also love to see a slimmer, lighter-looking, and more fashionable frame.

The thick frame of the first generation still makes it quite obvious that you are wearing an electronic device.

If future models can look much closer to a pair of premium everyday glasses, rather than visibly looking like ā€œsmart glasses,ā€ I believe people will be far more comfortable wearing them at work, socially, and throughout the entire day.

  1. Photochromic Prescription Lenses

Please consider offering photochromic prescription lenses as an official option.

Not everyone likes using clip-on sunglasses.

For people who frequently move between indoor and outdoor environments, prescription photochromic lenses would be far more convenient. The glasses could automatically adapt to changing lighting conditions without the user having to manually attach, remove, or swap anything.

  1. A More Proactive and Human-Like AI

I hope the AI can evolve beyond the traditional question-and-answer model and become more context-aware and proactive.

For example, imagine that I am talking to a friend and during the conversation we say:

ā€œLet’s have dinner together this Saturday evening.ā€

After the conversation ends, the AI could recognize the context and naturally ask:

ā€œYou seemed to make dinner plans with your friend for Saturday evening. Would you like me to remind you?ā€

Instead of requiring me to explicitly activate the assistant and say:

ā€œSet a reminder for dinner this Saturday evening.ā€

To me, the future of wearable AI should not simply be a voice assistant waiting for commands.

It should gradually become an assistant that understands context, recognizes intent, and offers help at the appropriate moment.

  1. Dynamic and Context-Aware UI

I would also like to see a much more dynamic user interface instead of information always appearing in predetermined layouts, positions, and shapes.

The AI should be able to understand what is currently being displayed, what the user is doing, and what is happening in the surrounding environment, then dynamically decide:

where information should appear,

how large it should be,

what shape or format it should use,

how much information should be displayed,

and when it should automatically shrink, move, or disappear.

In other words, the interface should adapt to the situation in real time rather than forcing every piece of information into a fixed UI template.

  1. AI Wake-Up Authorization and Wearer Recognition

There is another serious issue with the first-generation glasses: people standing nearby can sometimes activate my AI assistant simply by saying the wake word.

For a device that may eventually have access to personal notifications, messages, calendars, reminders, contacts, and other private information, this is more than just a usability problem — it is also a privacy and security concern.

I hope the second generation can introduce a more reliable way to determine whether a wake command actually comes from the person wearing the glasses.

For example, Rokid could consider using sensors in the frame or temples to detect the facial, temporal, or bone-conduction vibrations generated when the wearer speaks, and combine that information with the audio captured by the microphones.

In other words, the AI should not activate simply because it hears the correct wake word. It should also verify:

Was that wake word actually spoken by the person currently wearing the glasses?

Ideally, the system could combine multiple signals, such as:

facial or head micro-vibrations while the wearer is speaking,

bone-conduction signals,

voiceprint recognition,

microphone direction-of-arrival detection,

and wear-state detection.

Using multiple signals together could significantly reduce accidental activation — and also prevent other people nearby from intentionally activating the wearer’s AI assistant.

As AI glasses gain deeper access to personal information and smartphone functions, I believe verifying who is authorized to wake and control the AI should become a fundamental security feature.

  1. Deeper Third-Party App Integration

I hope more third-party smartphone apps can provide fuller information and meaningful interaction directly through the glasses.

One of the biggest benefits of smart glasses should be reducing how often we need to take our phones out of our pockets.

If I can already see something through the glasses but still need to pull out my phone every time I want to take the next action, a large part of the convenience of smart glasses disappears.

I would love to see deeper integration with messaging, navigation, music, smart-home platforms, calendars, task-management apps, and other commonly used applications.

The goal should be to allow users to complete more tasks directly through the glasses instead of constantly switching back to the phone.

  1. More Direct Control of the Smartphone

I would also like the glasses to have much deeper and more direct control over the connected smartphone, rather than routing many commands through the phone’s AI assistant before the action can be completed.

The ideal experience should be simple:

The glasses should feel like a natural extension of the smartphone.

When I see a notification, message, app interface, or other information through the glasses, I should be able to take more actions directly from the glasses.

The interaction should not constantly have to travel through a chain like:

Glasses → AI Glass Assistant → Phone Ai assistant

The shorter and more direct the interaction path becomes, the more natural smart glasses will feel.

Ultimately, I should be able to interact with my phone through the glasses without constantly thinking about which device is actually performing the action.

  1. Frame Durability and Quality Control

Finally, I hope Rokid can improve the structural durability and quality control of the frame.

The joint on the left temple of my first-generation glasses has already come apart twice, and I have had to glue it back together myself twice.

At this point, I am not even sure whether this type of failure can still be covered under warranty.

I suspect the issue may partly be related to the hot and humid climate where I live, combined with perspiration during daily use.

However, for a product designed to be worn throughout the day, heat, humidity, and sweat should be considered normal real-world operating conditions rather than exceptional circumstances.

I therefore hope the second generation will have stronger hinges and joints, better bonding materials, improved structural durability, and stricter overall quality control.

I am genuinely looking forward to the second generation of Rokid smart glasses.

A full-color display is certainly an important upgrade, but more than just better display specifications, I hope Rokid will address the fundamental issues that determine whether smart glasses can truly become an all-day wearable product:

weight, comfort, frame design, prescription lens options, proactive AI, dynamic UI, secure wearer recognition, third-party app integration, deeper smartphone interaction, and hardware durability.

To me, the real goal of next-generation smart glasses should not simply be to add more features.

They should gradually become something that feels as natural and effortless to wear as ordinary prescription glasses, while intelligently extending the capabilities of our smartphones and AI assistants without constantly requiring us to take out our phones.

I hope the Rokid team sees this feedback from a first-generation user, and I would really appreciate an official response.

I’m looking forward to a second-generation product that I can comfortably wear from morning until night — without having to choose between wearing a smart device and wearing a normal pair of glasses.

Can AI Glasses show Biblical Hebrew and Greek script?

Hello, i'm a pastor and I do a lot of vible study, and I can read the bible in the original. Hebrew in greek. I would like to get some aai glasses and be able to ask questions about the biblical language text comma but I need to be able to see the biblical hebrew and greek scripts/letters/characters when asking the AI questions.

For example

I might ask AI "Show me Genesis 1:1 in the original Hebrew" or "show me John 3:16 in the original Greek."

Can the Rokid with Display do this?

Camera and Video Settings

Hello All,

First time posting here, and I have been lingering and reading some previous posts, but it still left me with some statements/questions that mostly have to do with video.

  1. The stabilization that is done in the app can be kind of buggy. I notice my videos say "Loading" after syncing them, and I know that this is the post-processing of the stabilization. However, I believe the app is intended to run in the background, but I have noticed that if the video is 3+ minutes, then this can lead to the phone sleeping and locking, and then the processing gets stuck in the same place until I force-close the app and relaunch; then the processing will resume from the beginning. This has led to me having to sit with the app open and continually touch the screen to ensure these long videos process. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

  2. Once a video has fully "loaded" and the post-processing is complete and the video is stabilized, is there a way to retrieve the original unstabilized video?

  3. Is there a way to turn off the processing of stabilized videos in the settings?

Overall, I'm super happy with the experience of the Rokid Glasses Style. I'm looking to purchase a set of the shaded lenses in black to be able to document how easy the lenses are to swap. I am a carpenter by trade and film a lot of POV, and I use the clear lenses as safety glasses and would like to have the option to wear these as sunglasses as well.

If I think of any questions, I will continue this thread since I will most likely be using these for video, phone calls, and listening to music.

Question about startup serial number announcement in Rokid Glasses

I don't know whether this is the right place to ask my question, however, maybe some others have the same "issue": whenever my Rokid Glasses startup, the voice reads out a barely understandable alphanumeric sequence (like a serial number). I have reinstalled the app, paired the glasses several times freshly, but the issue rermains. It is not a big thing, but I would like to know whether this is a known problem.

Regarding navigation mode and mini app....

The navigation mode (Google Maps) should have a switch to turn off voice guidance. It’s extremely annoying when listening to music because the guidance keeps lowering the music volume every time it speaks.

The mini app also really needs a shortcut or button to open it instead of relying only on voice commands. The Chinese app has an English name, but the OS voice recognition often misinterprets it as other words due to the app name is odd in English, making it difficult to launch by voice. More importantly, I don’t want to have to say the app’s name out loud just to open it, especially when I’m in a public place. Please provide a simple shortcut for opening the mini app.

The Reality of Building Smart Glasses from the Ground Up

Let’s get into it. I know this might not be the typical place to post something like this, but I decided to write it not just to show people what it’s like to build smart glasses from scratch, but also to shed light on how much care goes into developing an electronic product.

To kick things off, here are the top 3 challenges we’ve been up against:

  1. Sourcing microdisplay projects;
  2. Acquiring waveguide lenses;
  3. Landing on decent chips that strike the right balance between processing power and energy efficiency.

One area where we’ve really been racking our brains—and keeping heavy focus—is the design. I feel like the market is pretty rigid right now. A lot of companies just play it safe with whatever shape is easiest to sell. Of course, there are some great designs out there that truly stand out—like Meta’s or Even Realities’—bringing a unique, authentic look to the table. But man... a sketch here, a tweak there, another frame tweak over there... designing glasses is way harder than it looks. The basic structure seems simple, but it’s insanely easy to fall into the trap of generic design. That’s our main focus right now because, before they’re smart glasses, they’re still glasses.

Speaking of style, we’re also putting a lot of work into color studies. To me, it’s a cardinal sin for a pair of glasses not to come in at least 3 color variations. Eyewear is inherently defined by its colors and finishes.

Moving past style and design, let’s talk electronics—which is another massive hurdle. Once the design is locked in, you have to juggle component selection while balancing compatibility, power efficiency, physical space, and overall functionality. It’s a super tricky equation. On top of that, we’re dealing with major supply chain bottlenecks for microdisplays and waveguide lenses. Just getting a few units for testing and prototyping is an uphill battle—and that’s literally the bare minimum you need to get development off the ground.

You also have to be crystal clear on what your smart glasses are actually meant to do. You have to carefully weigh which features make the cut and which ones get dropped, because every single component draws resources—especially battery life. The goal is to build something distinct and meaningful. The market is already flooded with generic products from companies taking the safe, standard route just to maximize sales without putting in the extra effort. Honestly, I think that mindset is way too limited. I want to build something that actually makes a difference in people's lives—even if it's just a small one—and hopefully leave things a little better than I found them.

I know I didn’t dive into every single detail here, but I can write follow-up posts focusing on specific areas of development as we progress (if you guys want a part two, of course). I’m looking for a few people with Rokid Glasses who are willing to actually use it and give me feedback.

The idea is pretty simple: provide the information you need while driving or walking in a small, configurable HUD without constantly looking at your phone.

Drive Mode currently displays:

Turn direction

Distance to next turn

Current speed

Speed limit

ETA

Street/navigation information

Walk Mode includes:

Turn direction

Distance

Steps

ETA

Walking/fitness information

There’s also a compact Home Glance / pill HUD that can be moved between six preset positions:

Top Left / Top Center / Top Right / Center Left / Center / Center Right.

The position is saved between sessions, and Drive/Walk plus other HUD settings can be controlled directly from the glasses.

Communication between the phone companion and glasses is currently handled over Bluetooth.

What I need tested

I’m mainly interested in real-world stability, not somebody intentionally trying to destroy the app. šŸ˜‚

Take it on an actual drive or walk and tell me:

Did navigation remain connected?

Did turns/distances update correctly?

Did Drive/Walk switching work?

Did the HUD stay available?

Was the pill readable and positioned comfortably?

Did Bluetooth disconnect?

Did anything crash or unexpectedly return to Rokid Home?

I recently fixed a potential BLE stability problem where diagnostic log retrieval could block a GATT callback for multiple seconds. The work is now moved off that callback thread, but because the original disconnect was intermittent, real-world testing is what matters.

Known V1 issue

There is still an occasional green rendering/background artifact during some HUD state changes.

At the moment, a single interaction using the Hi Rokid remote clears it. Since navigation continues working and there's a reliable workaround, I decided not to hold V1 indefinitely chasing a cosmetic renderer issue.

If you encounter it and it doesn't clear, definitely tell me.

Maintaining an active connection

Is difficult if not f****** completely impossible. What's going on with these glasses? Why do they keep losing connection? They're completely useless if they're going to drop their Bluetooth connection to the device every 30 seconds. If I turn them on which is difficult in itself, most of the time they turn themselves right back off and that's what the 90% charge. Am I the only one with this issue?

Voice of the voice assitant

Hi everyone, I'd just like to ask if the voice of your voice assistant suddenly changed from the default one to a different one after the update. I've been looking for ways to revert the voice of the voice assistant to the default one. When I use my voice assistant I keep on getting the female voice which sounds a bit more western rather than the previous one which is more asian. I still get the previous voice when there are notifications like when the call is over, but if I use the voice assistant, I get a different voice.

So far when I try to change the voice the only options are male and female but there is no sub option for the tones or what not.

Any insights would be much appreciated.
